Transforming the Way We Learn: Why Digital Literacy is So Important

Transforming the Way We Learn: Why Digital Literacy is So Important | Social and Collaborative Learning | Scoop.it
“digital literacy is less about tools and more about thinking…”
When we talk about language literacy, we are discussing much more than the basic ability to recognize words on a page.

Viljenka Savli's curator insight, September 9, 2013 3:45 AM

Likewise, digital literacy is more than simply knowing how to use digital tools. It is the ability to “locate, organize, understand, evaluate, and analyze information using digital technology.” It’s also about knowing what to share, and who to share it with.

It's ok Karen! Digital tools are like fruit - some we like, some work well with one's thinking framework and others don't. Hence having a wide range of options is positive (at least in my view :-)

jodybowie.com: The Eight Tenets of #Connectivism

Via Ana Cristina Pratas

Ana Cristina Pratas's curator insight, July 19, 2013 4:53 AM
  1. Learning and knowledge rests in diverse opinions; Learning is a process of connecting specialized nodes or information sources
  2. Learning may reside in non-human appliances
  3. Capacity to know more is more critical than what is currently known
  4. Nurturing and maintaining connections is needed to facilitate continual learning
  5. Ability to see connections between fields, ideas, and concepts is a core skill
  6. Currency (accurate and up-to-date knowledge) is the intent of all connectivist learning activities
  7. Decision-making is itself a learning process. Choosing what to learn and the meaning of incoming information is seen through the lens of a shifting reality. While there is a right answer now, it may be wrong tomorrow due to alterations in the information climate affecting the decision

How do we deal with unwilling corporate learners?

How do we deal with unwilling corporate learners? | Social and Collaborative Learning | Scoop.it

...But then I realised I was confusing two, albeit, related issues : willingness to learn and ability to learn for oneself. So I decided to try and plot these two issues on a chart.

Whereas those who are willing and keen to learn (in the top left-hand quadrant), just do it and pretty much sort themselves out, it is those in the bottom right-hand quadrant – the directed, unwilling learners who are not motivated or interested in learning, and expect to be taught. And this is clearly where most training efforts are placed. Hence the constant stream of advice about how to make learning effective, appealing, engaging – how to use the right colours or font sizes or images or whatever – in a desperate attempt to motivate the unwilling learner.

Great insight from trusted source Robin Good (@RobinGood). We are all in the "online confernece" business now (no matter what our business vertical), so important reviews of helpful tools here.

GIANFRANCO MARINI's curator insight, April 23, 2013 12:46 AM

Mi limito a tradurre liberamente quanto scritto da Robin Good

Carl Heine's curator insight, June 12, 2013 9:32 AM

Gracie Passette's comment, March 15, 2013 12:50 AM
This OverBlog is very hard to navigate and there's no search, which is infuriating. Also, they say "no porn" which, as it is a "know it when I see it" thing, means anyone dealing with sexuality in any form likely isn't welcome. Instead, OverBlog says adult folks should go to their other site, http://www.erog.fr/ ~ however, that is also confusing and lacks search ~ and is also all in French.
Laura Brown's comment, March 19, 2013 9:44 PM
Sites which offer blogs like this are way out of date and out of touch with the current situation on the Internet. The "free blog" thing has come and gone. Pick Blogger.com or WordPress.com and be done with it. Anything else is too risky and not likely to stick around very long.

Broadcast Your PowerPoint To All The Devices In The Room with Electric Slide | Social and Collaborative Learning | Scoop.it

Electric Slide is the easiest way to wirelessly present PowerPoint slides, Office documents, PDFs and videos with your iPhone or iPad.

Your device is a remote control that works anywhere with any screen. Since viewers just need your simple URL to follow along, setup is a cinch.

You can also connect your device directly to a TV or projector via HDMI or VGA.
