Bob Burg, the author of the Go-Giver (http://tinyurl.com/cuwkdoc) is an inspiration.  This book actually made me feel like God was talking to me through the story.  I was going through an extremely difficult time and the universal lesson of giving first, before expecting to receive, was the most influential reminder I could have gotten at that time.

Since then, my life has improved consistently.  Not only do I look to GIVE first, I am also OPEN to receiving!

This is a great article that showcases Bob's philosophy and his ongoing work.

Thank you Bob Burg!!!

In this post by Certified Go-Giver Speaker/Coach and Ninja Selling Instructor, Dennis Giannetti, he takes a phrase we often use in terms of applying Go-Giver principles, “Walk In Your Value” and he provides a totally different angle. And, as is always the case with Dennis…he makes a LOT of sense.

Enjoy Dennis’ wisdom! – Bob Burg

Provide yourself an exit strategy

Some day, you're not going to want to do it any more. You're going to want to move on from this project and try something else.

I was told recently by a very wise colleague that the first thing that you should do, on assuming an important job, is to identify the person that's going to replace you. Some day, you're going to move on from that position, and much of what you've invested into the position will be lost unless you are actively taking steps to ensure that your impact outlives your own involvement.

Some folks, of course, strive to make themselves irreplaceable. They do this by hiding information, by ensuring that everything depends on them, and by actively scaring off anybody that might take over. Some people do this intentionally, while others do it instinctively, out of desire to protect their position. But by actively looking for your replacement, you create a culture of openness in which people won't be trying to oust you, so the other goal is accomplished, too. (Publicly documenting everything you do is another huge part of that, and an article for another day.)

By mentoring your replacement, you remove so much of the stress of carrying the entire operation yourself. You can begin to delegate things. You can spend more time thinking about the future, and less time fixing things that are broken that only you can fix.

And when the time comes to depart, you can rest assured that you're leaving things in hands that will continue your vision.

Leave a legacy that actually matters

Open source is code. Code gets refactored, forked, and deleted. When you leave that project, your impact will dwindle as your contributions are gradually patched away.

The time that you spend mentoring people will endure. It will stretch into other projects, other industries, and other decades. Every moment that you invest in another person will extend your impact a little further past your own direct influence.

Can You Use that Photo? Understanding Fair Use and What Photos Can and Can’t Be Used Legally on Your Blog | Building the Digital Business | Scoop.it
According to MDG Advertising, 37% of Facebook users engage more fully with a post that has a photo included; and 67% of customers state that the quality of a product’s image helps them decide whether or not to purchase the product.

One of the reasons that sites like Pinterest have become so popular is that people find the images engaging. You’ve probably heard it said that a picture is “worth 1000 words”. This is true because humans are visually driven.

Hi Danielle,

Thanks for scooping this! I am the CEO and co-founder of the company behind Paligo, (Expertinfo). It would sound rather biased to tell you what I think about it in any objective way :-) But I am very happy to hear you find it interesting, and what I can tell you about it is that it is brand new, it was just launched at the end of 2014. We are very excited to be able to offer this as a new alternative for companies looking for a powerful and user-friendly CCMS to move to structured authoring. It is XML-based, supports topic-based authoring, and usability is a top priority. I won’t go into the features here, that would take too long. Anyone interested in seeing it for yourselves is very welcome to check out the web site (it will be more extensive soon) and sign up for a web demo, or just contact me here and I’ll set it up!

7 Outstanding Moodle 2.8 Features That You Will Love

7 Outstanding Moodle 2.8 Features That You Will Love | Building the Digital Business | Scoop.it

Just by looking the number of features and improvements that are introduced in the latest addition, one can quickly get a grasp on how much Moodle focuses on making the open source LMS so much loved by the users.

Features for all Moodle 2.8 users
These features are accessible by all users of Moodle 2.8, including administrators, educators, and students:

A new User Menu
Now you can access the pages you want or need quickly and efficiently. The settings are customizable, allowing you to set things up to suit your personal needs appropriately.

Email to save privately
This feature allows the user to email documents and other important correspondence with attachment directly to themselves, which in turn automatically saves the correspondence and attachment in a private file for future use.

Auto-save feature for text
Anything you are working on, be it a fairly minor assignment or important article or thesis Moodle’s auto-save feature allows you to securely store any content you have written, keeping it safe until you are ready to edit or publish it.

‘Like’ rating ability
Simply put, this allows you to share what you choose with social media sites you use by taking all of the benefits of social media and bringing them together with Moodle in harmonious integration.

Improved Gradebook Features
The following features have been designed for the use of educators for the most part, but are also beneficial to some of the duties of the administrator:

All-new Grade History Report feature

The following features have been designed for the use of educators for the most part, but are also beneficial to some of the duties of the administrator:

All-new Grade History Report feature
This will make keeping track of each individual user’s grade history as well as the tracking of specified markers as easy as a click or two of the mouse.

Single-view feature
This allows you to make changes to user information or other specifics on a fast and efficient basis; there is no need clicking back and forth to get the job done.

Natural Weight Dispersment
This convenient feature handles everything from day-to-day assignment grades to hidden and excluded grades to grades given for extra-credit assignments, bringing them all together into on convenient balancing method.

Grader Report with improved features
The Gradebook and Grader Report features are now easily accessible on all devices, navigable through the simple use of scrolling technology. You can conduct any editing you need to right on the device as well, and it can now be done without repetitive loading and re-loading.

Enhancements to the Moodle Forum

Moodle’s Forum is a popular resource rich with information and support. Now you are able to reply or comment on Moodle forum posts via email interface, and you can include attachments, a feature which was not available on the forum before. Thread navigation has also been greatly simplified, making it so much easier to find specific statements within threads which are needed or desired. Now users are also able to subscribe to forums which are topic specific, enabling them to narrow their applicable focus appropriately.

Brand new Assignment, Choice, and Quiz Options

Now users are able to select more than one Choice option at a time, allowing students to be challenged appropriately. Moodle has improved the edit and completion settings in Quiz mode enabling easier, faster use for the administrator and teacher, and they have also provided educators with the ability to attach assignment specific files to different user accounts as needed. All of this can be taken care of in the ‘Assignment’ portion of the settings, and has proven to be a wonderful additional feature, as it enables the educator to not only expand on the individual teaching they are focusing on from person to person, but they are also able to conveniently add additional resources and other documents to the student’s file as needed on a hassle-free basis.

Moodle 2.8 Reporting & Analytics features

Now you can keep track of upcoming events and appointments with detailed logging features. These also make the grade tracking process incredible simple in many ways by organizing and averaging as specified and needed. You can also take advantage of upcoming events by subscribing to new ones with this feature as well. No more missing out on those you really want to participate in.

‘Cohorts’ tracking feature

Now administrators and educators alike are able to track all involved cohorts and any applicable data as needed. The need to search, sort, and scroll is minimized greatly as all Moodle 2.8 participants are as close as your mouse or touchscreen. You have the ability to create or upload new cohorts, and you now have a screen dedicated to the display of and easy access to your cohorts.

Theme settings and clear individual user profiles

Now you have access to the information which applies to you or the students you teach right on their personal Moodle profile. There are individual settings and themes which allow for personalization, adding a bit of fun to the whole process. Communicating with one another and seeing to it that materials are provided and studies completed, as well as all grading and tracking, are made easier than ever with the new Moodle 2.8.

If you have been considering integrating Moodle 2.8 into your learning and teaching dynamic you are thinking about a wonderful product that will make the entire education process and all of its aspects and participants easier to deal with. Moodle will organize, assign, attach, assist, and aide administration in a way the world has never known. Take advantage of all the wonderful new features available with Moodle 2.8 and begin making learning and teaching fun and easy for all!
