CEOs talk enthusiastically about the need for innovation. Workers at the front line can see the needs and opportunities for fresh ideas. But somehow nothing happens. Ideas do not get implemented. Innovation grinds to a halt.

Walk AWAY in Your Value – The Go-Giver Way | Business in the Digital Era | Scoop.it

In this post by Certified Go-Giver Speaker/Coach and Ninja Selling Instructor, Dennis Giannetti, he takes a phrase we often use in terms of applying Go-Giver principles, “Walk In Your Value” and he provides a totally different angle. And, as is always the case with Dennis…he makes a LOT of sense.

Enjoy Dennis’ wisdom! – Bob Burg

Deleting your Facebook page is foolish

Deleting your Facebook page is foolish | Business in the Digital Era | Scoop.it
You know the saying, “You get what you pay for.” That’s often true. In the case of businesses with Facebook pages, you’re actually getting more than what you pay for, since – it’s free! So why would you not only look a gift horse in the mouth, but shoot it?

Yet some businesses are doing just that. It’s become the latest brag, trailing closely behind that fantastically annoying “I don’t even have a TV, never mind watch the drivel!”

Let’s lay it out: deleting your Facebook page is foolish.

The Un-Tapped Value of Employee Social Capital

The Un-Tapped Value of Employee Social Capital | Business in the Digital Era | Scoop.it
Why should any business owner like social media? Because social media connects people – employees to other employees, employees to customers, business and IT decision makers and vice versa, customers to customers, and so on.

Let’s forget the public giants, Facebook and Twitter, for a moment and focus on the social media technologies that connect employees of large companies to each other, inside the company. In this scenario, social paradise is when your social technologies (think company blog and micro-blog), are adopted by your employees and help form social capital among 10s or 100s of thousands of them on a global scale, like at my company, Dell.

Why should you care? Social capital (really not an oxymoron!) is a critical fuel for corporate knowledge sharing, innovation and growth. What company does not want that?

Business Transformation Journal

We are at the beginning of a new era in which traditional industries are transforming the ways they act and operate significantly. Many firms are starting to move towards a customer-centric organization, to think about new business models or to think about the digitalization of the economy and what this could mean for their business.

Even though the need to change is obvious and the willingness to succeed is evident, many transformations still fail. Looking at emerging technologies such as the digitalization, we can even draw a more pessimistic picture. Nearly 70% of all companies do not have a clear strategy on how to integrate digitalization with the elements of their business.

For the future, we need to think of transformation in a systematic and a highly integrated way. Consistency in strategy and design will be as important as specific and complementary leadership styles and governance.

Kenneth Mikkelsen's curator insight, October 15, 4:40 PM

An interesting publication - 360° Business Transformation Journal - by SAP and The University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland.

The magazine contains two particularly interesting articles about business model innovation (page 6-15) and business transformation management (page 16-27).

Key Learnings (Business Model Innovation):

  1. It is not enough to rely on product innovation. Often products fail, if they address the market with the wrong business model.
  2. Business models can be systematically developed and evaluated based on an agile and iterative process that ensures economic viability.
  3. Business models are probably the most powerful driver of competitive advantage and should be managed as it is done with product portfolios.
  4. Business cases by themselves are insufficient if they do not build on a validated business model.
  5. Business model development and innovation combined with Design Thinking and lean offers a meaningful and solid foundation for businesses.

Key Learnings (Business Transformation Management):

  1. New technologies and market demands initiate tremendous need for transformation in organizational and process dimensions and question existing structures of power in companies. Existing management practices and the management itself will be the objective of transformation.
  2. In order to master transformation, integrated approaches are needed to focus simultaneously on the strategy and new design of a future organization when initiating and orchestrating the change.
  3. In order to achieve the desired results by changing patterns of an organization, consistency in strategic and structural dimension is the major design principle.
  4. A comprehensive approach to leadership style to fit with the objectives and situations in transformations is needed.
  5. Charismatic and instrumental leadership styles have to be used at the same time and management behavior has to switch between collaborative and coercive depending on the specific situation, as these styles and behavior are in fact complementary. Leaders thus have to go beyond personal value preferences when selecting an organizational change strategy and reject the idea of a universally applicable leadership style in transformations.
  6. A comprehensive governance structure is needed to insure for information flow and feedback within the structures and roles and finally steer the overall transformation.

10 Tips for an Awesome and SEO-Friendly Blog Post

10 Tips for an Awesome and SEO-Friendly Blog Post | Business in the Digital Era | Scoop.it

Writing a blog post -like all other writing- is a skill. In order to keep your reader interested, you should think about structuring your text and writing in an appealing style. You should help your readers to grasp the main idea of your post by providing headings, subheadings and clear paragraphs. If people understand and like your text, they are much more likely to share, like, tweet and link to your post. And that will increase your rankings! So, in order to improve your ranking in Google, you should definitely try to maximize your writing skills!

For some, writing for SEO purposes and writing to attract and keep attracting your audience could appear as two contradictory goals. However, I totally disagree. Indeed, if you not only want a good but also an SEO-friendly blog post, your text should be written in such a way that the words you want to be found for have a very prominent place. And, using your keywords too often severely damages the readability of your text. So, you definitely should not do that!

(From the article): Adding actual and functional information to your website will give Google the idea that your website is alive. If it’s not an active website, Google will crawl it less often and it might become less appealing to Google to include the page in the search results.

Are you thinking of your content as Lego building blocks?

Are you thinking of your content as Lego building blocks? | Business in the Digital Era | Scoop.it
There are many content types and tactics for content marketing. Each has it's place. Each offers unique benefits. Creating original content on an ongoing

Via Guillaume Decugis

Guillaume Decugis's curator insight, October 30, 4:50 PM

As a kid my favorite game was to play Lego and build, deconstruct and rebuild stuff (spaceships mostly: I'm a geek...). As a father, I've been fascinated to see that construction game becoming my kids' favorite too and see what they came out with in terms of new ideas to build.

Are you thinking of your content as modular with lego-type building blocks?

Leed Odden says you should because you'll then be able to turn mico-content into eBooks and then blog posts, newsletters, etc... And vice versa.

Rebecca Lieb of the Altimeter group came out with the turkey leftover analogy to explain how you could turn epic content such as an ebook or a white paper into many other pieces of content with only marginal additional work. It's interesting to complement that with the opposite approach and plan your micro-content so that it can fit into something bigger.

As Lee Odden points out, content curation plays an important role if you want to pursue this strategy: "Curation of micro-content is easy, provides useful information to your target audience".

And because of the many benefits he describes with social and SEO, by assembling your Lego content blocks into an awesome content spaceship, you might realize that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

Guillaume Decugis's curator insight, October 15, 1:45 PM

This infographic does a good job at describing 5 basic types of landing pages you might consider for your content strategy.

Landing pages are a powerful way to generate leads because:

1. They help segment your audience by aligning it with a specific message. For example, we drive our own audience interested specifically in using content curation for Wordpress to this page which also receives search traffic.

2. They create opportunities for conversion by gating content such as white papers

3. They are longer lasting than blog posts or social content. They're good for evergreen messages.

4. They're flexible: easy to rework, A/B test and adjust over time, particularly with tools such as Unbounce

We'll probably create a longer piece to share our own experience using landing pages so please don't hesitate to share your own experience with us in the comments.

Gina Tucker's curator insight, October 15, 2:20 PM

Infographics, webinars, slide desks, and other various landing pages are an easy way to generate leads and define your business goals.
