Treathyl Fox's insight:

Talent2050 Today's TOP STORY for Monday August 18, 2014.  "Why some feminists say women bosses are just 'a decoy'.  Other great stories and videos.  Take a few minutes to peruse this online publication.

* * SIDE COMMENT:  Whether feminists are saying this or non-feminists; whether you agree or disagree with the article, labeling a female in an executive position as a 'decoy' is not nearly as insulting as accusing (“whispering”) that she slept her way to the top. I have worked for really good women bosses and heard that constantly. These ladies were high caliber professionals, expert professionals in their field, and knew how to manage others to get the job done! So now women are not being labeled whores and sluts; they're just decoys! What a step up! This is so ludicrous. Exactly what should the woman do if offered a position she's qualified for?  As if!

YATTL!!  Yet Another Top Ten List.   Military might is not something anyone should ignore. The article would have been even more illuminating if there was a quick reference chart that showed country, number of soldiers and budget (dollars spent) and how many times along with the dates of occurrences that they actually engaged The Enemy (i.e. How many real wars happened and how long did they last?).  China is #1 and that's the country that has a one-child-per-family policy.  And they still got a bigger army than everybody!!!

Point hoping to be made by the article writer: “Just 8 years after the U.S. Congress overwhelmingly passed and Bush signed the Secure Fence Act, and 5 years after Nancy Pelosi and Barack Obama defunded it, this is the lawless state of our open border.”

The Act was defunded?  Well let's hope the fearless leaders have plans to put the money to better use.  If so, they need to  stop hemming and hawing and DO IT QUICK!!  Those are some scary-looking dudes.  I don't think there's a secure fence in the world that could stop these bad boys!  Maybe they can choose defunding.  But they can't opt out of DEFENDING!!

Wonder if there is any information on whether or not these "Love Jihads" are working out? Are the couples content to dwell with each other or are the unions ending up being included with statistics for "bad marriages". Marriage is awesome if you get it right!! It's hell on earth if you don't!

Do we really need Angelina Jolie?

Do we really need Angelina Jolie? | Soceity & Culture | Scoop.it

RT @womensmediacntr: We need Angelina Jolie, just as we need investigators, prosecutors, advocates, journalists: http://t.co/NBXbHknhXr #Ti…

Via bobbygw
Treathyl Fox's insight:

Struck me as an odd question. The article's author - Lauren Wolfe - seems to think that Ms. Jolie lending her celebrity status will be helpful. Of a truth, most of the time the general public would not be aware of lots of things if some well known personality didn't bring it to the forefront and put the matter in the spotlight.

Somebody has to help those victims. Evidently, Ms. Jolie has accepted a humongous social responsibility, and has taken on a daunting – looks like impossible – job. Why? Either she thinks she can make a change for the better or she's determined that she's going to try real real hard!

So the response to the question “Do we really need Angelina Jolie?” is – “If Angelina Jolie can succeed in rescuing the victims, YES! We need her and whoever else, celebrity or a non-celebrity, who can initiate appropriate action to protect the human rights of these people and prevent these ruthless vile and violent criminal acts.”

To quote the author: " ...  we need Angelina Jolie, just as we need the investigators, the prosecutors, the philanthropists, the advocates, and the journalists."

Additionally, the author wrote:  "Now we just need governments to take on the complex problems that lead to rape in war and the needs of survivors after the fact."

Indeed?  In point of fact, if those in official positions of pubic trust and accountability would have already stepped up to their plate, maybe private persons would not feel morally obligated to take it upon themselves to do what the government should be doing or should have already done!  At any rate, we must hope - we must believe - that Ms. Jolie's sacrificial efforts and those working with her can bring an end to this senseless malicious brutality and violence!

But they were living a segregated black neighborhood!  They must be Negroes.  Ya think?!)  Must say there was one person on the list that surprised me.  Reading about this ancestry stuff is fun!!!

There are so many other informative Scoop. It boards maintained by others that cover cultural topics. Consequently, my shares for this topic are not very frequent, but hopefully each scoop which is carefully selected will be appreciated by readers. This blog post is from a blog from Abagond who basically blogs about 500 words a day on whatever subject they choose to discuss.  It's sort of like a surprise as one never knows what to anticipate. This post happens to be a guest post.

It's no secret that much of the history of the United States is never taught in Americans schools. America is so diverse with people who transplanted themselves to begin a new life in The New World. Learn some fascinating facts about the Chinese-Americans history by way of this post.   The tidbits about the mixed Chinese-black children and the San Francisco Earthquake? Did not know that!!

Quick video, less than 2 minutes; but it's loaded with practical advice most people would have thought of on their own IF they saw the need.  New books touching on diversity topics are awesome. But we don't really have to write new books. There are books already written by authors all around the world, that reflect their culture, way of life, history, customs and traditions. Just find them and put them on the library shelves or sell them in our bookstores. OK. We may have to translate some of them. We can do that!! :)

It's OK. To explain how they work but my question was "Why Do We Need Them?" Why do we need anybody to LEAD us? We can decide our own fate, can't we? We know which direction we want to take with our lives don't we?

Truthfully if two people stood in front of you and one said: “Bow! You are in the presence of your ruler!” - then the other one said: “It is my honor to serve and protect you.” Which one would you take an immediate liking to??

Islam’s Medieval Underworld

Islam’s Medieval Underworld | Soceity & Culture | Scoop.it

The year is—let us say—1170, and you are the leader of a city watch in medieval Persia. Patrolling the dangerous alleyways in the small hours of the morning, you and your men chance upon two or three shady-looking characters loitering outside the home of a wealthy merchant.

Suspecting that you have stumbled across a gang of housebreakers, you order them searched. From various hidden pockets in the suspects’ robes, your men produce a candle, a crowbar, stale bread, an iron spike, a drill, a bag of sand—and a live tortoise.

The reptile is, of course, the clincher. There are a hundred and one reasons why an honest man might be carrying a crowbar and a drill at three in the morning, but only a gang of experienced burglars would be abroad at such an hour equipped with a tortoise.

It was a vital tool in the Persian criminals’ armory, used—after the iron spike had made a breach in a victim’s dried-mud wall—to explore the property’s interior.
