Schools today rely on the ability to improve the collective capacity of the entire teaching staff.

The amount of direction from experts and leaders should be inversely proportional to the degree of experience and skill of the teacher. Therefore, once the school has an agreed-upon instructional framework and an accompanying common language, more and more teacher learning should be self-directed.

Why Your Team Matters More Than You

Why Your Team Matters More Than You | Soaring Math | Scoop.it

A few good and sound advices that do not seem very new but remain true and good to be reminded once in a while. (delegate, define a mission, let your team work it out themselves, etc).

As such it also defines what the manager should focus on: building an environment that allows everyone to function at its best. never ending story.

Takeaways for school leaders:

  1. Focus your efforts on overcoming the barriers perceived by teachers.
  2. Encourage innovative examples that do take root.
  3. Expect wide variations in familiarity with different technologies, and provide separate trainings for teachers on opposite ends of the spectrum.
  4. Focus on the devices and technologies that both teachers and students are already using.
  5. And treat ed tech with urgency.
