While world leaders and mainstream media commentators continue to insist that Boko Haram, the Congregation of the People of the Sunnah for Dawah and Jihad, have nothing to do with Islam, the only people not to have gotten the memo are the members of Boko Haram itself.

Rape victim helps convict attacker despite killing herself

Rape victim helps convict attacker despite killing herself | ''SNIPPITS'' | Scoop.it
A rape victim helped convict her attacker despite committing suicide before the trial in a British legal first.

Ceri Linden, 20, overdosed on pills five days after being raped by fake taxi driver Masood Mansouri.

But a video recording of her interview with police was played in court as evidence.

In returning a unanimous guilty verdict, the jury of seven women and five men made British legal history.

A rape case has never previously been successfully prosecuted in England and Wales where the evidence of the victim went unchallenged by cross-examination.

After the verdict, Ceri's mum Eleri consented for her daughter's name to be published.

Although deceased victims of sex offences are not afforded anonymity under law, media outlets had refrained from naming Ceri, from Mochdre, near Colwyn Bay, at the wishes of her family until Mansouri was convicted.

She said: "Losing her has left a hole in our hearts which can never be filled and a pain in our hearts which can never heal.

"Ceri's lovely little daughter Bethan will have to grow up without her beautiful mummy."

Students Publicly Humiliated by School Because Parents Refused Permission for Mosque Visit - Breitbart

Students Publicly Humiliated by School Because Parents Refused Permission for Mosque Visit - Breitbart | ''SNIPPITS'' | Scoop.it
Ten young children who were pulled out of a school trip to a mosque by their parents have been publicly humiliated by their school in Cornwall. The children, aged between eight and 11, were singled out in assembly and made to answer questions about their planned non-attendance.

Junior school children from Lostwithiel School in Cornwall are due to visit Exeter mosque, Devon in May as part of their Religious Studies lessons. The rural school has just 156 pupils on its books, nearly 100 of whom, aged between eight and 11, are expected to be taking part. The school says the aim of the outing is to teach children that jihadist groups such as ISIS are not a true reflection of Islam.

But the parents of 10 children refused permission for their youngsters to take part in the trip due to safety concerns, citing fears over Islamic terrorism. They reacted furiously to the news that their children had been made to publicly answer questions about their non-attendance, pointing out that it was not the decision of the children involved.

One parent, who asked not to be named, told the Daily Mail “We have grave concerns about the childrens’ safety during the trip due to the horrific events that occur every day. We have therefore decided not to send our children on this trip. This decision is not one based on ignorance or racial or religious beliefs, but one based purely on safety concerns.

“They were made to stand up after assembly. The sitting non-attendees were then asked individually why they were not going on the trip. This is not a decision the children have made, so discriminating against these children in this fashion is disgraceful, unacceptable and unprofessional.”

However, the Chairman of Governors of Lostwithiel School, Kat Smith, was unapologetic. She insisted that the school had a duty under the Equalities Act 2010 to promote different faiths and ethnicities.

“This is the first time pupils from the school have visited a mosque and it’s an exciting opportunity for them to learn about different faiths and ensure that they’re aware of the diverse nature of modern Britain,” she said.

“Because of recent news reports about extremist groups, such as ISIS, that identify themselves with Islam, a small number of parents have expressed concerns about the trip and the teaching of Islam in school.

“In response, the school held a special assembly with children to discuss these issues, and the head teacher has met and sent letters to parents with specific concerns.”

She insisted that the trip was safe for the children to take part in, and that, coming from a provincial area such as Cornwall, it was imperative that children be introduced to other faiths and cultures. And she explained that children should be taught that ISIS is not “a true reflection of Islam”.

“A full risk assessment has been conducted for the trip and there is no more risk attached to this trip than any other school trip,” she said.

“Religious Education forms part of the basic curriculum in schools and its teaching is enshrined in law. The school recognises that parents have the right to withdraw their child from RE in whole or in part, and provide alternative work to further their child’s knowledge and understanding of the parents’ beliefs and values.

“However, the school is aware that children growing up in Cornwall may have little contact with Muslims and it is aware that it has a duty under the Equality Act 2010 to promote good relations between people of different beliefs and ethnicities as part of its single equality duty.

“The Governing Body fully supports this trip and the teaching of RE, including Islam. It is the governors’ hope that the visit to the Mosque will provide an insight for pupils into the nature of British Islam, help them understand how Islam is presented in the media and that groups like ISIS are not a true reflection of the Islam followed by the vast majority of Muslims in Britain.”

The school’s headteacher Carolyn Huxley said that the trip would still go ahead and reiterated the need to teach children that jihadist groups such as ISIS are not a true reflection of Islam.

“Our hope from the visit to the mosque is that children will be given a view as to what are the values and beliefs of a ‘British Muslim'”, she said. “This trip will show the children the views of extremists are not a true reflection of Islam as a religion.”

Obama Just Made A Highly Illegal Move Against Christians- He Could Be In Trouble // MrConservative.com | ''SNIPPITS'' | Scoop.it
President Obama just made a move against Christians that could land him in big trouble.
Thanks to Obama, faith-based aide organizations are being forced to refer young refugees who have been sexually assaulted to abortion clinics, even though this violates their religious beliefs.
“Faith-based groups say this is a contravention of the rights of parents and a violation of the conscience rights of faith-based groups helping resettle the children,” said Dr. Susan Yoshihara of the Center for Family & Human Rights.
According to Dr. Yoshihara, Obama and his goons quietly changed the rules to “require faith-based providers to make referrals for emergency contraception, partner with groups that provide for abortion, or notify the federal government that would make arrangement for the abortion.”
According to Conservative Tribune, the Obama administration consciously tried to keep this quiet by “fast tracking” the regulation change before waiting for normal public notice, congressional oversight or comment process.
On top of this, religious aide groups are being forced to promote “transgender and intersex” values.
“The rules assert that ‘gender’ refers to the attitudes, feelings, and behaviors that a given culture associates with a person’s biological sex,’ and that ‘this term is not to be confused with sex, which refers to a person’s biological status and is typically categorized as male, female, or intersex,” stated Dr. Yoshihara.
Religious aide groups like Catholic Relief Services, World Relief and World Vision are taking a stand against Obama by voicing their anger to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
“The interim report falls short of adequately protecting (relief groups) with religious or moral objections to providing (services or information) to which such organizations have a religious or moral objection,” read a joint message from several faith-based groups.
Freedom of Religion is one of the most fundamental rights our forefathers gave us, and Obama is currently violating it. The president clearly has no respect for the constitution, or Americans who believe in the Christian faith.

Islamic State are executing deserters trying to flee air strikes in northern Iraq

Islamic State are executing deserters trying to flee air strikes in northern Iraq | ''SNIPPITS'' | Scoop.it

“Credible” reports of IS deserters being executed by their own side are coming out of northern Iraq, either for trying to flee altogether or retreat to Syria where IS has a stronger grip on power.

IS is not breaking up but the reports point to growing tension within it in the face of more than 1,500 coalition air strikes in Iraq since last summer, including about 230 by RAF Tornados and Reaper drones.

The MoD says Britain is second only to the US for air strikes on IS in Iraq and has hit strongholds, checkpoints and vehicles, as well as gathering intelligence.

Other coalition members have been pounding targets in Syria.

This helped turn the tide in the IS siege of Kobane, the Syrian town on the Turkish border, now retaken by Kurdish forces.

Three weeks ago Iraq, backed by coalition air strikes, claimed to have recaptured Saddam Hussein’s birthplace Tikrit, which had fallen, like Mosul, during the rampaging advance of IS last year.

Some IS recruits are thought to have become disillusioned at the toll wreaked by coalition planes or by the brutality of IS towards its prisoners.

One western source said: “There are lots of credible reports of executions by IS of their own deserters in northern Iraq.

“There have been reports from Mosul and Sinjar near the Syrian border.

“It is not clear whether the deserters were trying to quit IS or flee to Syria.”

Those executed are thought to include three Chinese Muslim militants earlier this year, plus 100 foreign fighters suspected of trying to desert before Christmas in the IS Syrian HQ city of Raqqa.

Terrorist train wreck threat from hacking of new rail signal system – security specialist

Terrorist train wreck threat from hacking of new rail signal system – security specialist | ''SNIPPITS'' | Scoop.it

Hackers have the ability to tap into a new rail signal system being trialed in the UK and cause oncoming trains to crash into one another at full speed, an internet security expert has warned.

A horrible accident is “waiting to happen” as the new digital system intended to make train lines safer could easily be exposed to malicious software and accessed by terrorists.

Experts fear the new system’s “lack of security” has the capability to cause carnage around the UK, especially if they are hacked by the wrong people.

Professor David Stupple, an internet security expert from City University, told the BBC he predicts the new system will cause a “nasty accident” involving terrorists as they can “easily expose the new mainframe.”

“It’s the clever malware that actually alters the way the train will respond,” he added.

The malware could perhaps “tell the system the train is slowing down, when it’s speeding up,” he told the broadcaster.

However, Stupple says the government “aren’t complacent” as they are completely aware of the dangers of the trials. “They are worried about it,” he added.

Stupple highlights the government’s awareness of the dangers, and claims they are working on measures to prevent an attack occurring. 9

The spokesperson says National Rail will “work closely with the government, the security services, our partners and suppliers in the rail industry and external cyber-security specialists to understand the threat to our systems and make sure we have the right controls in place.”

ISIS takes military barracks, dam in Iraq's Anbar

ISIS takes military barracks, dam in Iraq's Anbar | ''SNIPPITS'' | Scoop.it
Baghdad, Reuters—Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) militants in Iraq took partial control of a water dam and military barracks guarding it in the western Anbar province after fierce fighting through the night that continued on Saturday, security sources and witnesses said.

The Iraqi government announced a new offensive this month to recapture parts of Anbar, Iraq’s Sunni Muslim heartland, from Islamic State, in an attempt to build on an earlier victory against the group in the central city of Tikrit.

But the hard-line Sunni militants struck back by attacking Ramadi, the provincial capital of Anbar, prompting thousands of families to flee. They also hit Baiji, Iraq’s largest refinery last week.

Late on Friday, the insurgents attacked the security perimeter at al-Thirthar dam with explosive-laden vehicles and then battled army forces in clashes that continued on Saturday, police and army sources told Reuters.

Dozens of Iraqi troops were killed in the fighting, but poor communications in the area made it difficult to confirm a precise figure, said Athal al-Fahdawi, an Anbar provincial council member. Army sources said two senior officers were among the dead.

Officials from Iraq’s defense and interior ministries could not immediately be reached for comment.

Security forces and Shi’ite paramilitaries have regained some ground in Iraq since ISIS proclaimed a caliphate straddling the border of Syria and Iraq, but core Sunni territories such as Anbar remain under ISIS control.

A video posted online on Saturday by ISIS’s official media organization appeared to show its fighters moving about freely at al-Thirthar dam, which serves as a flood control for Baghdad and other cities.

A black flag commonly used by the militants is seen flying from a radio tower. Two bodies apparently belonging to Iraqi forces also appear in the footage.

Muslim school 'BANS girls from running in case they lose their virginity'

Muslim school 'BANS girls from running in case they lose their virginity' | ''SNIPPITS'' | Scoop.it
A former teacher at Al-Taqwa College in Melbourne wrote to government ministers accusing the school's principal of believing "that if females run excessively, they may 'lose their virginity'".

The letter continued: "The principal believes that there is scientific evidence to indicate that if girls injure themselves, such as break their leg while playing soccer, it could render them infertile."

Australia's The Age newspaper published a letter purportedly sent by the college cross-country team to principal Omar Hallak challenging his decision.

It said: "Just because we are girls doesn't mean we can't participate in running events.

The letter's writer added that the decision was "really offensive to all the girls that were going to participate".

"It also doesn't say that girls can't run in the hadith (sayings of the Prophet Mohammed). As long as us girls are wearing appropriate clothes we can run."

The local education regulator is now investigating the principal's alleged comments.

The school was not available for comment.

Some tech firms being 'friendly to terrorists' says UK police chief

Some tech firms being 'friendly to terrorists' says UK police chief | ''SNIPPITS'' | Scoop.it
LONDON (Reuters) - Some technology and communication firms are helping militants avoid detection by developing systems that are "friendly to terrorists", Britain's top anti-terrorism police officer said on Tuesday.
Mark Rowley, the national police lead for counter-terrorism, said companies needed to think about their "corporate social responsibility" in creating products that made it hard for the authorities to access material during investigations.
"Some of the acceleration of technology, whether it's communications or other spheres, can be set up in different ways," Rowley told a conference in London.
"It can be set up in a way which is friendly to terrorists and helps them ... and creates challenges for law enforcement and intelligence agencies. Or it can be set up in a way which doesn't do that."
Ever since former U.S. spy agency contractor Edward Snowden disclosed the extent of surveillance by U.S. and British security agencies in 2013, intelligence chiefs have said the authorities' ability to monitor terrorism suspects had been severely degraded.
Documents leaked by Snowden showed spies had harvested data from the likes of Google, Yahoo and Microsoft, leading some other firms to create new encryption and privacy products that make it hard for agents to intercept communications.
"Snowden has created an environment where some technology companies are less comfortable working with law reinforcement and intelligence agencies and the bad guys are better informed," Rowley told Reuters after his speech.
"We all love the benefit of the internet and all the rest of it, but we need their support in making sure that they're doing everything possible to stop their technology being exploited by terrorists. I'm saying that needs to be front and centre of their thinking and for some it is and some it isn't."
He declined to identify which firms he was referring to.
Rowley's comments echo those made in January by John Sawers, the former head of Britain's foreign intelligence service, who said trust between technology firms and governments had been shattered and needed to be rebuilt.
Prime Minister David Cameron has vowed to give the security and intelligence services new powers to monitor Internet communications should he win an election on May 7.

Child rapist jailed after sexually attacking teenage girl in Moss Side GRINNED in police custody

Child rapist jailed after sexually attacking teenage girl in Moss Side GRINNED in police custody | ''SNIPPITS'' | Scoop.it
A child rapist grinned in police custody after he sexually attacked a 14-year-old girl.

Arman Nejad dragged his victim from the street and into a house in Moss Side, where he raped her.

The crime dates back more than five years, to October 2009, but GMP failed to initially investigate and bring Nejad, now 23, to justice.

Supt Simon Retford, from GMP’s Professional Standards Branch, said: “There were unacceptable delays in bringing the case to court after the initial complaint was made.

"The victim received a service that I believe fell below the level which we strive to offer to victims of rape and other sexual abuse.”

Nejad, of Caythorpe Street, Moss Side, was found guilty of rape after a trial at Manchester Crown Court and on Friday, April 17, he was jailed for five years.

In October 2009, the victim was walking along Caythorpe Street, Moss Side, with her friends.

Nejad called her over to his house on false pretences, separating her from her mates. He then dragged her into a house and raped her.

The matter was reported to police in February 2010, and the girl was video interviewed by officers from the south Manchester division.

In June 2013, officers from GMP’s ‘Protect’ team - a multi-agency initiative set up to tackle child sexual exploitation - visited the girl on an unrelated matter and became aware of an apparent lack of progress following her initial complaint.

The matter was then fully investigated by officers from the Protect team and Nejad was arrested, charged and subsequently convicted.

As soon as GMP’s Professional Standards Branch became aware of the apparent delay in this case, it was referred to the IPCC who returned it back to the force to investigate locally and this investigation is ongoing and a formal complaint has been made by the girl.

Det Insp Debbie Oakes, from GMP’s Phoenix Protect Team, said: “Greater Manchester Police’s Protect Team was first made aware of Arman Nejad’s appalling crimes in 2013.

"As a result, a full and thorough investigation was completed that resulted in this matter being brought to court and which aided in bringing Arman Nejad to justice.

“While the Force absolutely accepts the failures in this case, we should also stress that the work of Protect and the Phoenix partnership over the last few years that has made huge strides towards protecting vulnerable people who are at risk of child sexual exploitation.

"Working with our partner agencies, we can make use of legislation at our disposal to disrupt premises where we suspect CSE may be taking place, shut those premises down and also arrest and investigate suspects so we can put them before the courts, as we have done with Arman Nejad.

“With the launch of the ‘It’s not Okay’ campaign we are increasing public awareness of how to protect children at risk by increasing people’s understanding of child sexual exploitation and how to spot the warning signs of CSE.

"Together, we will continue to tackle CSE and continue to pursue people like Arman Nejad and expose them for the criminals they really are.”

Supt Retford added: “An investigation is underway to establish the reasons and circumstances around our initial response and apparent lack of action in progressing this case.”

News - New ISIS video purportedly shows mass executions of Christians

News - New ISIS video purportedly shows mass executions of Christians | ''SNIPPITS'' | Scoop.it

A new video published Sunday by the Islamic State terror group claims to show two mass executions in Libya. In the video, reportedly shot in Libya, a group of Coptic Ethiopians is executed by a firing squad and another group by a knife to the throat.

The video shows ISIS operatives marching their victims, who don the group's now infamous orange jump suits, along a coastline, presumably in Libya; the second group is dressed in black jump suits and was marched and executed in the desert.

According to ISIS, the first group being executed was "adherent of the Ethiopian church" – a possible reference to Coptic Christians – and the execution purportedly took place in Libya's Fezzan region.

The second mass execution reportedly took place in the Barqa region. The group failed to name their victims, whose throats they proceeded to cut.

Throughout the long and graphic video, ISIS terrorists are seen taking down crosses and replacing them with Islamic State group flags. It is possible the second group consisted of Egyptian Copts, similar to a previous video in which the group murdered 21 of the faith's adherents in Libya.

"Despite the cross, we have returned," the ISIS narrator said with guns pointed at the first group.

According to the video, the execution is a message to Christians in the region according to which, if they fail to convert to Islam they will have to pay with their lives or face execution at the hands of ISIS. A similar fate befell the Christian community of Raqqa, Syria.

ISIS has gained a significant foothold in Libya, posing a clear and imminent threat to both Egypt and Italy.

Police Beat and Torture Detained Christians in Lahore Youhanabad

Police Beat and Torture Detained Christians in Lahore Youhanabad | ''SNIPPITS'' | Scoop.it
Merciless beating and abuse is a tool used by the police to extract confessions. All those who are imprisoned continue to be subject to torture.

The ones who have been set free claim that, “A lot of times we were beaten to a pulp and left on the door step in a bloody mess. The purpose of this was to extract confessions out of us.”

International persecution watchdogs like the International Christian concern are holding conferences to curb persecution of Christians in Pakistan. The ICC has stated in one of the press conferences that most of the people are innocent. The Christian community condemns the lynching of the two Muslim men in retaliation for the Taliban’s bombings of the two Christian churches, the broad sweep and detention of innocent Christians is uncalled for. This shows the presence of a banana republic in Pakistan. Indeed justice should be served for the public lynchings but an incompetent police force beating confessions out of detainees is not the way it should be done.

In the press conference the extent to which the Christian community is marginalized in Pakistan was also discussed with major cases like Nouman Masih, Aasia bibi, Shahzad and Shama. But these are still the tip of the iceberg. The list of grievances inflicted upon the Christian minority is limitless.

Four of the allegations, which had not been previously reported, are "now being assessed to see if a criminal investigation should be carried out", police said.
The force said the allegations were highlighted in the High Court ruling.
'Very seriously'
It has been granted an extension for criminal proceedings to be brought about and appointed a detective superintendent from its homicide and major crime command to oversee a review of the 200-page report published by the court last week.
It said it was considering the new material in connection with 47 of the allegations originally reported.
The Met added: "The MPS takes any allegations of electoral fraud or malpractice very seriously, as we are committed to ensuring a free and fair election."

Japan – the rogue nation out to kill more whales | Environment | The News Hub

Japan – the rogue nation out to kill more whales | Environment | The News Hub | ''SNIPPITS'' | Scoop.it
Earlier this month, whaling ships left port in north-eastern Japan to embark on another government-backed 'scientific' whale killing program in coastal waters around the country and another new Antarctic whaling program is planned for later in the year despite international court rulings against it
The four ships that left port in Japan earlier this month could kill up to 51 minke whales in a few short weeks as part of a so-called ‘research’ program in the north-western Pacific. Can this really still be going on after all these years? By the mid-1970s global whale populations had been reduced to less than ten percent of their peak populations – they were a species near extinction. It made sense to stop killing them. Greenpeace famously brought the issue into the public domain at the time through a number of anti-whaling campaigns, which put the environmental campaigning organization on the map. Commercial whaling was finally banned by the International Whaling Commission (IWC) in 1986, but Japan carried on under the loophole of undertaking scientific research. Japan has killed 13,000 whales since the IWC ruling on commercial whaling came into effect in 1987. Ridiculously, under the ban Japan has even been allowed to sell meat from the “scientific” hunts on the open market. In May 2010, in a landmark legal challenge, Australia initiated proceedings through the UN International Court of Justice (ICJ) alleging that Japan was pursuing a large-scale program of whaling and was using science as a thinly veiled cover for commercial whaling in the Antarctic waters. Finally, in March 2014, the ICJ ruling banned Japanese scientific hunts in the Antarctic. The court decided that the hunts were nothing more than commercial whaling masquerading as science. But it isn’t over. Japan has a new plan to resume whaling in the Southern Ocean this year. The Japanese government is thumbing its nose at the International Court of Justice. Under this new plan they aim to kill almost 4,000 minke whales over 12 years and this despite a panel of experts from the IWC, the body that once regulated commercial whaling around the world, condemning Japan's newly-revised plans. The ocean conservation organisation, Sea Shepherd, has opposed the Japanese government's slaughter of whales in Antarctica since 2002. Throughout those years, they have remained the only organisation dedicated to protecting the sanctity of the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary. Spearheaded by direct-action, Sea Shepherd has saved the lives of over 5,000 whales, and has shone a spotlight on the atrocities committed against protected, vulnerable and endangered whales by the Japanese whaling fleet. But unfortunately, the new Japanese program is also focused on limiting Sea Shepherd's capabilities. It includes an expanded hunting area, twice the size of that designated previously, aimed to make it more difficult for Sea Shepherd to locate the whaling fleet; a transferable and compoundable quota, meaning that the lives of whales saved by Sea Shepherd in any year will be transferred and added to the quota of the next; and a commitment not to engage with Sea Shepherd, thereby reducing any opportunity to draw international attention to the proposed yearly whale slaughter. As such, the ocean conservation NGO will direct its resources elsewhere this year. Instead, they will take their fight for the whales from the South to the North. Thousands of cetaceans are still targeted for slaughter in the northern hemisphere each year too. Norway and Iceland alone have a combined yearly kill quota of over 1,500 whales. This number includes 154 endangered Fin whales. But what now for Japan’s declaration that they intend to continue to kill whales in the Southern Ocean in violation of both the ICJ and the IWC? This is not a response of a nation that adheres to the rule of law. It is the response of a rogue nation that intends to bully its way into getting what it wants. Japan thinks they will be able to get away with it and they may indeed get away with it, but perhaps it is time for Japan to be treated like the rogue nation they have become in response to their criminal operations and their contempt for international law.

BBC accused of anti-Semitism after it says Jewish community live in a 'wealthy pocket'

BBC accused of anti-Semitism after it says Jewish community live in a 'wealthy pocket' | ''SNIPPITS'' | Scoop.it
THE BBC have tonight been accused of anti-Semitism after it referred to a Jewish community as living in a "wealthy" pocket of an area.

The Beeb published the comments, blasted by a Labour candidate as "offensive", on their General Election website.

They described the Blackley and Broughton constituency as a multi-cultural area containing a "Jewish community concentrated in a wealthy pocket of large detached houses".

Labour candidate Graham Stringer, who is defending the seat, said the words have prompted a flood of complaints from Jewish people.

He said parts of the area’s Orthodox community suffer from some of the highest poverty levels in the country.

He compared the BBC description to the Victorian caricature of Fagin in Oliver Twist.

In a complaint to the broadcaster, Mr Stringer said the description was a "racist distortion".

The wording on the BBC website, describing the Jewish community, has since been amended
It isn’t fair and it’s as offensive as Charles Dickens’ caricature of Jewish people in Oliver Twist in the character of Fagin
Labour candidate Graham Stringer
The Labour hopeful said: “It’s a view of the Jewish community as being rich, whereas in actual fact the Hasidic Jewish community has intense poverty. Jewish social services are regularly trying to help that community.

“I can’t think of another community in Manchester with as much deprivation and poverty.

“It isn’t fair and it’s as offensive as Charles Dickens’ caricature of Jewish people in Oliver Twist in the character of Fagin.”

Manchester and Salford’s orthodox Jewish community is around 100 years old, with one study carried out in 2009 numbering it at around 10,000 people in Salford alone.

That report found an average of nearly six people per household within the city’s Orthodox community, raising concerns about overcrowding.

The study, based on academic research and data from local services, added: “Among the population, there still remains substantial levels of deprivation particularly amongst families with young children."

Since the accusations were made the wording on the BBC website has been changed.

A spokesperson for the broadcaster said: “These profiles aim to portray every constituency in a few sentences.

"We regret part of our description of Blackley and Broughton did not accurately reflect the area and we have now changed the wording accordingly.”

EXCLUSIVE: Nicola Sturgeon linked to IT fraud probe

EXCLUSIVE: Nicola Sturgeon linked to IT fraud probe | ''SNIPPITS'' | Scoop.it
POLICE have launched a major fraud investigation after claims that 200 British workers at Scotland’s environment agency were sacked and replaced by cheaper staff from India and South America.

Most of the replacements are alleged to have been allowed to enter the country on Tier 2 Visas – designed only for people coming to the UK to fill a position that cannot be filled by a settled workers.

The claims, made by two former employees, were also passed on to Scotland’s First Minster Nicola Sturgeon, who was last night challenged to explain on why she took no action.

Embarrassingly, they come just two weeks after the SNP leader declared: "We need strong controls on immigration and we need to make sure people do not get away with abusing the system the rest of us pay for.”

Detectives from Police Scotland’s Economic Crimes Unit were last night investigating a raft of allegations including fraud, Visa fraud, breaches of employment law and misconduct in public office.

The IT unit at the department of Agriculture, Farming and Rural affairs formally consisted of around 200 mostly British experts tasked with creating a £200m online system for processing farming claims and agricultural subsidies.

The replacements began in November and happened over a period of four months, in batches of 30 and 40.

By March this year, almost all staff employed in the project were Tier 2 Visa holders from India, South America and Korea.

Last night former IT consultant John Dunning described a culture of “fear and resentment” as new workers worked double shifts without extra pay, for fear of having their Visas revoked and being sent home.

He reported his concerns to the Scottish Government under Whistleblower rules, and made a separate complaint to Police Scotland.

He also contacted both Nicola Sturgeon and Richard Lochhead MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs, and was astonished to discover that his concerns had simply been bounced back to AFRC’s HR department.

One email, written on December 17, states: “Thank you for your emails to Ms Sturgeon, First Minister on 1 December 2014 and to Mr Lochhead, Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs, Food and Environment on 29 November 2014. Your emails have been passed to me to reply.”

Speaking to the Sunday Express, Mr. Dunning, 48, recalled the day when the first batch of workers were asked to leave Saughton House, AFRC’s headquarters in Edinburgh.

“It was November 21, a Friday.

"A line manager came and a number of contractors were taken into a room.

"A total of 23 were let go that day,” he said.

“On the following Monday around 25 Indian staff joined the project to replace those who had left.

"It transpired that the majority of these individuals were on Tier 2 Visas allowing them to work in the UK.

"I became very concerned.”

Mr Dunning said new jobs were deliberately advertised as low rates in Britain  so that they would not appeal to UK workers.

On average, replacements were paid around half the rates of those they replaced, with new recruits being expected to work illegal hours without overtime and not being paid expenses.

“They go through a recruitment process in India and from about 1000 applicants, 100 are chosen to go to the UK,” he said.

“They are bred into a culture of fear in that they are required to do everything their employer tells them and anyone who does not will be sent back to India and replaced.”

So swift was the process that many were brought in without having proper security checks.

“When I joined, we all had to have security clearance – it’s a Government department and there is potential access to other Government computers.

"We had to show our certificates before being allowed into the building,” he said.

“But many of the new staff were allowed on site without having this clearance.

John Dunning, former IT consultant
"It took more than three weeks to sort and they had to be escorted everywhere, even to the toilet.”

Mr Dunning added “I also saw one of the new Indian employees pass Visa documents to another with the instructions ‘photocopy these and then change the name’.”

Last night a Government Scotland spokesman said it had launched an investigation with the Home Office, but that no evidence of Visa fraud had been found.

But Mr Dunning said: “They concentrated on the forgery issue, but not the way in these Visas were obtained.”

Last night his claims were backed by another worker at the site, who resigned in protest.

“They were given five minutes to clear their desks and escorted off the premises,” said the former team leader.

“Many were on six month contracts with the option of extension, but I was told by one that he was paid off until the end of his contract.

“I left because of the way they had begun to run the programme.

"I also do not agree with way Tier 2 Visas appear to have been abused.

“Britain is full of very capable and skilled It workers, but the new generation is being killed off because it’s much cheaper to ship in cheap foreign labour.

"Those Visas are for genuine skills shortages, not to help Government agencies save money.”

Last night Ukip accused Nicola Sturgeon of “sheer hypocrisy” over immigration.

“In recent election debates, Nicola Sturgeon denied that migrants are a hugely significant factor in the way the UK labour market operates," said migration spokesman Stephen Wolfe.

“Yet, this miserable episode illustrates the SNP's sheer hypocrisy.

"Far from benefiting Britain, directly replacing workers in this country with immigrants with similar skills from abroad causes more unemployment, poverty and grows a benefits culture whilst lowering wages for those British people still lucky enough to have work.”

Alex Fergusson, Conservative rural affairs spokesman for Scotland, said: “I was made aware of these serious concerns, but it was on an anonymous basis, so I could not take further action.

“It is clear, however, that if these allegations are still being investigated, that the Scottish Government must answer them.

"It is no good passing the buck to the company allocated to take care of recruitment.

"This a Government department and is ultimately the Government’s responsibility.”

A spokesman for Police Scotland said: “We can confirm Police Scotland is looking into these allegations and enquiries are at an early stage.”

Saudi Arabia foils ISIS terrorist attack: official

Saudi Arabia foils ISIS terrorist attack: official | ''SNIPPITS'' | Scoop.it
Riyadh, Asharq Al-Awsat—Saudi security forces have foiled a terrorist attack by militants affiliated to the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), an Interior Ministry spokesman announced.

The “terrorist operation” would have seen seven car bombs target different sites across the Kingdom, with Riyadh also announcing that one of the suspects arrested later admitted to killing two police officers at a checkpoint in the Saudi capital earlier this month.

In comments carried by the state-owned Saudi Press Agency (SPA), Interior Ministry spokesman Maj. Gen. Mansour Al-Turki announced that 23-year old Yazid Mohammad Abdulrahman Abu Nayan was arrested in connection with the death of Pvt. Thamer Omran Al-Mutairi and Pvt. Abdulmohsen Khalaf Al-Mutairi, describing the attack as a “heinous crime.”

“When interrogated and confronted with the evidence, he [Abu Nayan] admitted that he carried out the shooting and said he was executing instructions he received from the terrorist organization ISIS,” Maj. Gen. Turki said.

Nayan had been working with another suspect, said to have a Moroccan accent, and received orders to attack the security patrol on film, while the two men had also received assistance from other alleged ISIS members.

“ISIS instructed them to carry out the attack,” Maj. Gen. Turki said.

Abu Nayan was arrested at a farm at Al-Awained Center in the Huraimela district north of Riyadh, the SPA report said. The Interior Ministry spokesman affirmed that “intensive investigations” are ongoing, and that Saudi security forces have confiscated arms, ammunition and explosives from the scene.

Saudi security authorities also confirmed that seven vehicles were uncovered at the farm, three of which were already in the process of being booby-trapped for the terrorist operation.

As for evidence of ties to ISIS, outside of Abu Nayan’s confession, Saudi authorities discovered cell phones at the scene including text messages between the suspects and ISIS in Syria.

“Of these messages, once includes confirmation of the attack. Another message instructs the perpetrators [in Saudi Arabia] to hide and stay out of sight,” Turki said.

Saudi authorities are still on the lookout for Nawaf Sharif Al-Anzi, who was implicated in the terrorist operations. Riyadh has placed a one million riyal bounty on the alleged ISIS member.

Islamic State are now preventing women 'from being seen by DENTISTS'

Islamic State are now preventing women 'from being seen by DENTISTS' | ''SNIPPITS'' | Scoop.it
The evil organisation are said to be working to stop females receiving dental treatment in the city of Tabaqa, in Syria, on the grounds of preventing mixing between men and women, which is against the extremists' rules.

Dentists in the area were said to have been given a deadline by which to end all their treatment commitments with female patients.

An IS campaign was then launched to ensure the new rule is enforced - resulting so far in the whipping of two dentists by affiliates of the terror group.

A dentist in Syria explained that there are not enough female dentists to accommodate all the women in Tabaqa - meaning many were being left without dental treatment as they are forbidden from being seen by male dentists.

The number of female dentists inside Tabaqa is relatively little, and these doctors can not address all women of the city
A dentist in Syria
He told human rights campaign group Raqqa is Being Slaughtered Silently (RSS): "The number of female dentists inside Tabaqa is relatively little, and these doctors can not address all women of the city.

"But that did not prevent the group from the implementation of this resolution, which significantly affected the work of dentists because 70 per cent of the patients are women because they care about this subject more than men.

"Therefore dentists’ income decreased, as work hours also decreased to less than 3 hours per day, which led to the closure of some clinics and go to other areas in search of a livelihood with dignity."

The number of dentists in the area was thought to have dropped to less than 10 over recent months after IS stormed clinics to search for any irregularities.

However, dentists in Raqqa will still be able to treat female patients, unless otherwise instructed by IS.

The doctor continued: "Currently I started thinking about travel to Turkey or to [the Syrian government] regime’s areas in search of a job away from the state of tension and stress imposed by the group during the past months."

In other strict IS rules, the terror group have also previously banned Mother's Day cakes and have threatened to jail men for wearing skinny jeans.

A middle finger to America: Prosecution open up penalty phase of Boston Bomber's trial with picture of unrepentant killer flipping off cameras three months after his arrest

A middle finger to America: Prosecution open up penalty phase of Boston Bomber's trial with picture of unrepentant killer flipping off cameras three months after his arrest | ''SNIPPITS'' | Scoop.it
A never-before-seen picture of Boston Bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was shown in court today - and it's an image that just might get him killed.

Earlier this month, the 21-year-old was found guilty on all charges related to the April 15, 2013 attacks at the Boston Marathon finish line, and Tuesday marked the beginning of the penalty phase of the trial.

Over the next several weeks, jurors will hear more evidence and testimonies as they decide whether to sentence Tsarnaev to life in prison or the death penalty.

Prosecutors gunning to send Tsarnaev to the execution table punctuated their emotionally-charged opening statements this morning by releasing a new picture of Tsarnaev, taken three months after his arrest.

In the picture, Tsaranev wears an orange jumpsuit and puts on a cocky image, offensively flipping off a video camera and puckering his lips in his cell on the day of his arraignment.

Missing father was 'member of banned extremist group' | ''SNIPPITS'' | Scoop.it
A British Muslim father who police fear is travelling to Islamic State with his four young children was a member of a banned extremist group, it has emerged.
Police are hunting Asif Malik, his partner Sara Kiran and their family who have gone missing and are feared to be travelling to Syria.
The parents and daughter Zoha, seven; son Essa, four; son Zakariya, two; and one-year-old son Yhaya - have not been seen for nearly two weeks.

Anjem Choudary, the radical Muslim cleric, confirmed Malik had been a member of the banned group al-Mujahiroun and described him as a "champion for shariah" who regularly attended the group's events and demonstrations.

As fears were growing for the safety of Malik's four young children, Choudary said Malik remained "very influential in the community" after al-Mujahiroun was banned five years ago.

ISIS Militants Hold SEX-SLAVE Lottery says Escaped Captive

ISIS Militants Hold SEX-SLAVE Lottery says Escaped Captive | ''SNIPPITS'' | Scoop.it
Human Rights Watch (HRW) conducted interviews of 11 women and 9 girls who have been sexually enslaved by ISIS. They include Yazdid and other minority members. The women have given horrifying details of their accounts of slavery, sexual and physical abuse and being beaten up and tortured.

It has been widely reported that women and girls are abducted and sold in sex slave markets in Northern Iraq. This includes children as young as 8. ISIS holds captives in farm lands, hotels, prisons, military bases, and schools etc. In an interview with HRW girls said that there were we were taken to marriage halls and there were about 60 other girls waiting to be married to militants.

“From 9:30 in the morning, men would come to buy girls to rape them. I saw in front of my eyes, ISIS soldiers pulling hair, beating girls, and slamming the heads of anyone who resisted. They were like animals,” a 20-year-old escaped ISIS captive said. “Once they took the girls out, they would rape them and bring them back to exchange for new girls. The girls’ ages ranged from 8 to 30 year. Only 20 girls remained in the end.”

Rashida another escaped captive narrated her story of being in a sex slave lottery where militants drew the names of the girls he wanted to take home. She remembers trying to kill herself and drank something she assumed to be a poison. She didn’t die, but was taken by a man who won her in a lottery.

Girls as young as 8 are raped for days at a stretch, after the militants examine their bodies and tie their hands and legs. The gruesome stories of these women and children continue to come in as ISIS keeps on rampaging across the world.

Italy accused of bringing in Islamist 'terrorists' after Christians thrown into sea

Italy accused of bringing in Islamist 'terrorists' after Christians thrown into sea | ''SNIPPITS'' | Scoop.it

A dozen Christian asylum seekers drowned in the Mediterranean after they were thrown overboard by Muslim migrants in a furious row fueled by “religious hatred” on a smuggler boat sailing from Libya to Italy.
Italian police last night were investigating the deaths, which emerged from testimony provided by the 100 other asylum seekers on board the vessel. The boat was rescued by Italian ships and brought to Palermo in Sicily.
Fifteen Muslim migrants, believed to be from Senegal, Ivory Coast, and Mali, were arrested, accused of having thrown the Christians from Ghana and Nigeria into the sea after the fight broke out.
They are suspected of being responsible for “multiple aggravated murders, motivated by religious hatred”, police said.
“The threats then materialised and 12 people, all Nigerian and Ghanaian, are believed to have drowned in the Mediterranean,” they said.
The attackers were identified by other refugees, some of whom were in tears as they recounted the story to Italian authorities.4
