How has technology transformed the role of a teacher?

Technology in The Early Childhood Classroom

Technology in The Early Childhood Classroom | smith edu204 | Scoop.it

We often talk about iPads in K-12 classrooms, the availability of information on the web for college students to access, and a host of other similar topics in too many categories to mention. But we don’t often broach the topic of technology in early childhood education classrooms.

This interesting creative information board provides educators with a range of reasons and results as to why technology is so important in the Early Childhood classroom context. It is interesting to see quantitative results that show concrete evidence of why technology education is viewed the way it is, and to look at how other schools or countries may compare. This ScoopIt could be used possibly in professional development gatherings or staff meetings in schools to provide a benchmark or topic of debate about technology use in schools today.

Kelly A. Roper's comment, June 9, 2013 1:04 AM
Thank you Haylee for this valuable information. I too have a Scoop. It page that focuses on creatively using technology in the early years classroom and it was indeed interesting to see in a survey format the percentage of teachers that are actually implementing technology into their lessons and in what ways. I am currently working in a school that has access to a wide range of ICT resources and yet has very little involvement with them. With so many resources available it is hard to understand why, but I believe it is because many teachers have little time to professionally engage with these resources and know little about how to utilise them in their lessons. This information would indeed be useful to share with teachers in staff meetings to encourage their involvement with technological resources.
Kelly A. Roper's curator insight, June 9, 2013 2:27 AM

Although we are encouraged as teachers using the Australian Curriculum (ACARA, 2012) to develop ICT capability in our students as they learn to use ICT effectively and appropriately to access, create and communicate information and ideas, solve problems and work collaboratively in all learning areas at school, and in their lives beyond school, we can see from this survey that really there are very few teachers in our early years classrooms making use of the technological resources available to them. I challenge teachers to view creative ways to implement technology and to invest their time in getting to know the programs and resources available to them.

Prezi isn't new but it is still pretty innovative. I recommend using just to stick out from the PowerPoint crowd. You will really stick out if you use it as creatively as they did in this video.
