The virtual datacentre of Jaguar Land Rover is a bit like the private cloud catering to users worldwide and we use public cloud services such as Google’s email client. ICT tools are increasing the efficiency in agricultural development. The results are astonishing.

Traditionally, pen and paper have been used to collect data in the field and for monitoring and evaluation of projects in rural areas. However, this method is time consuming and susceptible to human error. This can have a bad affect on productivity and accuracy.

Information and communication technologies are now being used widely with remarkable positive results to perform these tasks in agricultural development projects.

This update is less expensive than cloud when you want to cluster storage and want to back up every piece of data you put up there.

The refresh project also has a green, energy-efficien element to it. Because of better datacentre cooling techniques, Menzies can save an equal amount of money on power costs.

The new infrastructure will give Menzies a robust and secure IT infrastructure that is resilient and flexible, as well as cost-effective.

Virtualization gives you the chance to run multiple operating on a single machine. While most computers only have one operating system installed, virtualization software allows a computer to run several operating systems at the same time. For a big company such as DAA (owns and operates Ireland’s three largest airports in Dublin, Cork and Shannon.) this is the ideal IT plan. The virtualisation project has given the IT team a lot of cost savings, highly-available infrastructure and a centrally managed environment.

BT provided networking for all sites and had to ensure everyone from press to athletes and spectators (around the world) would be able to stay connected.

After the London Games, this resulted into few benefits for BT.

All the fibre has become part of OpenReach (BT's commercial ISP business) and the capacity on managed services was upgraded. Also skills & processes have improved.

the Wi-FI provides benefits for both the fans and the club.

Fan experience will get better and the club can get more data on the fans from the one-time registration they ask the fans to complete to get onto the network. This way the club has a chance to showcase their partners and sponsort through advertising.

Niels Dillen's curator insight, December 23, 2013 5:22 AM

Company name: Liverpool FC

Economic activity segment: football

ICT solution name: Wi-Fi

Liverpool FC has introduced Wi-Fi to their stadium. In this way the experience of the fans wil increase. But not only the fans will benefit. For example the club will get more data from their fans because they will have to fill in a few questions before they can enter the Wi-Fi. The club can also attract more sponsors because of the Wi-Fi. This because the sponsors can advertise online during the game on every connected mobile.

Business objective: improvement of customer satisfaction, increase sponsoring, get a good view about their fans
