Thomas Heatherwick reveals garden bridge designed for River Thames

Thomas Heatherwick reveals garden bridge designed for River Thames | smart cities | Scoop.it
Thomas Heatherwick reveals garden bridge designed for the River Thames in London in collaboration with Joanna Lumley.

The design was developed by Heatherwick Studio after Transport for London awarded it to develop ideas for improving pedestrian links across the river.

"With its rich heritage of allotments, gardens, heathland, parks and squares, London is one of the greenest cities in the world," says Thomas Heatherwick. "In this context we are excited to have been selected by TFL to explore the opportunity of a pedestrian river crossing. The idea is simple; to connect north and south London with a garden."

Indeed I had argue in my works (also discussed here: http://www.linkedin.com/groupItem?type=member&trk=groups_most_popular-0-b-ttl&gid=37945&view=&qid=b9602a17-705f-4827-8993-ec0761b852e8&goback=%2Egmp_37945&item=5812292805464203266)  on Artificial Consciousness that the process which led to intelligence was more than simply computational and dependant on a configuration which brought about consciousness. Because either one is capable of solving problems successfully or not, does not imply that one is intelligent or capable of thinking, such as a machine which can almost always outperform a human given a specific task, yet is not intelligent, althought the human is.

It is therefore mandatory for us to not look at common human cognitive errors as simply erronous but as actually footprints in our understanding of the human brain and its processing. Looking at consciousness as the fundamental building blocks for intelligence, and an empirical science of problem solving dynamics, are definitely particulates this neurological research is seeking to achieve which confirm Don Sigma Corp.'s  particulates on the works ;)

This is the first in Sue Lebeck's four-part series "Previewing the possible for smart cities.

Standards, prestandards and potential future standards relevant to the smart cities of the future are emerging — through new paradigms, city-centric networks, alliances and consortia and certification bodies. The best practices and more that arise from these efforts will provide or inform the standardization which will lead us to our 21st century new normal for cities.

This brief compilation of emerging standards reveals the breadth of the smart city subject, the value of collaboration, the opportunities for innovation and the potential for 21st century transformation.

Starting with the ICT enablers that drive smart cities, this multi-part sampling will touch also upon energy, water, transportation, the built environment, carbon and climate, resilience, community, materials and food, finance and economic development, city business and measurement indicators.

Here's why the Internet works, "... because open standards allow every network to connect to every other network.  (So far...)   This is what makes it possible for anyone to create content, offer services, and sell products without requiring permission from a central authority.

It levels the playing field for everyone and it’s the reason why we have a rich diversity of applications and services that many of us enjoy today.
