Dreamy Winter Events in sunny Italy

Dreamy Winter Events in sunny Italy | Small group tours in the Italian countryside | Scoop.it

Our recommended winter destination is southern Italy. Why?

“…While much of Europe marches to an increasingly homogenized beat, this raffish corner of the continent dances to its owns own hypnotic tune”. As the travel guide for excellence – Lonely Planet – puts it, there is something unique and authentic about southern Italy. Here, winter is not associated with a “grey” color, but rather with sun, warmth and joy.

Southern Italy is a fantastic option not only for “ordinary” days in November, December, January and February – but also for those special times of the year marked by Christmas and New Year’s Eve. An ever-growing number of families are now choosing to spend these longed-for-festivities with relatives and friends in a homely atmosphere abroad.

Easter in Italy: traditional events & cuisine off the beaten track

Easter in Italy: traditional events & cuisine off the beaten track | Small group tours in the Italian countryside | Scoop.it

Visiting Italy during Easter is a truly entertaining and unforgettable occasion: folklore festivals and religious processions invade large towns and tiny villages from North to South. You will be surprised by the amount and variety of traditional events that go well beyond the famous and solemn Via Crucis that is typically broadcast live from Rome’s torch-lit historic center. So let’s explore some of these curious happenings together! - See more at: http://italianspecialoccasions.com/blog/easter-in-italy-traditional-events-cuisine-off-the-beaten-track#sthash.6F6TmnLs.dpufVisiting

italian excursion's insight:

Yes, Easter in Italy shows just how family oriented this country is, at many levels.  No matter what the belief system, religious or not, there are day long family gatherings as it's one of the most celebrated occasions for Italians.  If you get a chance to be there during this holiday, find a way to participate, whether you are in a big city or small village.  You will feel so Italian!

Ciao,

Cheryl

Canticle Wine Route: history, mysticism and foodie delights in Umbria

Canticle Wine Route: history, mysticism and foodie delights in Umbria | Small group tours in the Italian countryside | Scoop.it

Located in the heart of central Italy, Umbria features picturesque rolling
hills with poplars and cypresses, and mountains that alternate narrow
valleys and dense forests. The region is dotted with medieval hamlets and vineyards, which can be explored with breathtaking itineraries such as the idyllic Canticle Wine Route (Strada dei Vini del Cantico in Italian – its name deriving from the “Canticle of the Sun” poem by Saint Francis of Assisi). Let us explore the Canticle Wine Route and its towns!

Sagrantino di Montefalco: Taming the Beast | Small group tours in the Italian countryside | Scoop.it
Any conversation about Umbria and her wines must necessarily begin at the very heart of this region, both geographically and historically, which is to say at Sagrantino. Bagni di Lucca and its surrounds is one of my favorite areas in Tuscany. Here the terrain is full of impossibly picturesque hilltop towns, wild valleys and most importantly top quality local produce.

Bagni di Lucca is a tiny spa town nestled in the Serchio Valley, approximately 25 kilometres from Lucca.
