5 Morning Rituals That Will Keep You Productive All Day | Small Business Workforce Development | Scoop.it
Most of us arrive at the office as groggy and tired, leading to an unfocused start to the day. Here's how to arrive ready to go.
Michael_J_Stone's insight:

Great ideas that anyone can add to their daily routine. I would add the advice from Jeffrey Gitomer and add 2-minutes of reading.  Jeffrey suggests reading two-pages, just two-pages of your favorite inspirational book.

A few minutes of prayer or meditation also isa great way to prepare your heart for the day ahead.

Start your day preparing your physical body with exercise, your mind with reading and your spirit with prayer and you are sure to increase your chances for a positive and productive day.

John Michel's curator insight, November 26, 2013 3:48 AM

We learned early on that our growth and success depended on our employees: how hard they worked, the ideas they had, how committed they were when times got tough, the types of relationships they formed with customers, and so much more. Keeping our employees inspired and happy, and honestly acknowledging how much we appreciated their loyalty and efforts, were some of our top priorities as business owners.

Employee Engagement is a challenge for most organizations. Learn how best selling author Kevin Kruse suggests tackling the employee engagement issue. (Why don’t efforts at employee engagement work?

Michael_J_Stone's insight:

Why don't efforts at employye engagement work? Because, like this artcle demonstrates, we over complicate things. "Teaching" your employees how to be engaged is not the answer. Don't believe me? Ask your kids, (it doesn't matter how old they are) to write down all the things you do that make you a great parent.  Then say, "See, I told you I was a great parent."

Engagement is not about teaching people to appreciate you and reminding them it is their "obligation" to tell you if they are not satisfied.

It's about doing meaningful work and ony recruitung people that belive in your cause. It's focusing on desired outcomes, not skills, prior work experience or degrees.

Do you want your employees to be engaging? Really?

Then Be Engaging!

Via Alonzo Johnson
Michael_J_Stone's insight:

I love this insight. Understanding the different types of factors makes it easier to understand that this is an entire organizational challenge. Engagement factors into every aspect of the workplace. That is why it is so complicated.

I am not surprised at all that one of the main factors of engagement is missing from this list. I say that because it is seemingly missing from every list on engagement.

Engagement comes from meaningful work and what gives work most meaning is the beneficiary of the work you do. Of course, connections with colleagues and leadership are important. But when it comes to meaningful work, nothing is more important than the relationship, or connection to the client or customer.

If we don't care about the success of our client, it is impossible to make the work we do meaningful, regardless of how engaged we want to be.

When we keep score, we fall into the trap of patronizing our employees, which in many cases is worse than criticism.

Common Small Business Pricing Mistakes

Common Small Business Pricing Mistakes | Small Business Workforce Development | Scoop.it
Are you making these 3 common pricing mistakes in your small business?
Michael_J_Stone's insight:

Great advice. I especially appreciate the reminder from #1 to not assume your competitors are profitable.

One of the biggest missed opportunities for small business is in pricing. In almost every case they look at the product and try to figure out what the market will pay for it. The better approach is to decide what you want to price it at and then figure out a way to add enough value that it makes sense. People pay for convenience every day.

Are there additional benefits you can add to your offer that your competition isn’t willing to do?

By basing your pricing on the competition you turn your product in to a commodity. When you add value based on your client’s needs price becomes less of an issue.

If what you do is important, and I am sure that it is, the absolute worst thing that could happen to your customers is that you go out of business. It is clearly in their best interests that you remain profitable.

FOT is always good for a bit of debate. I agree with the premise that employee's are resposnible for their engagement. Management can do their best to create a culture  that is unique and opportunities that are interesting within the context of the company's goals and priorties. But employees do need to get invovled, embrace the vision and mission and in the process help shape the culture and their own future in an organization. If you choose to be a passengers you may end up somewhere you do not want to go. Contribute to getting the the destination and you will be happer for it. Then people will also see you for how you want to be seen. Win- Win.

nice list questions to ask your client :))

John Michel's curator insight, June 27, 2013 8:07 AM

The human brain is hard-wired to notice and remember negative things more effectively than positive. That’s because the brain is hard-wired for survival, and is basically designed for a bygone “caveman/cavewoman” era. When you consider this, it makes sense that the brain registers and remembers objects and events associated with negative emotions more effectively than those associated with positive emotions.

Garth Sanginiti's curator insight, June 27, 2013 10:00 PM

"Thus, when it comes to employee engagement, employee morale, and employee productivity, employers must recognize what they do that might be damaging employee engagement, morale, and productivity. Likewise, managers must know how to do the same at an individual level. Otherwise, the negatives will overshadow all the good practices you implement."
