Facebook Admits Organic Reach Is Falling Short, Urges Marketers to Buy Ads

If they haven't already, many marketers will soon see the organic reach of their posts on the social network drop off.
Vincent Dickie's insight:

Many businesses, artists, non-profits rely upon Facebook to 'share' their posts to 'fans' on the newsfeed of people who've liked their page. Now, they're openly saying you will need to pay for your posts to be shared.

You may have noticed your posts aren't being seen by as many people in the past, even if you're PROVIDING GREAT FREE CONTENT. This is a BIG problem for businesses.

What to do:

A) Use a range of social media platforms, and especially don't depend upon Facebook for your marketing.

B) Tell your fans to sign up to your site via e-mail (if you aren't building an email list, this is the time to start).

Here's what to tell your fans (credit to Derek Halpern from Social Triggers):

According to AdAge, Facebook said, "We expect organic distribution of an individual page's posts to gradually decline over time..." And a Facebook spokesperson said, "the best way to get your stuff seen if you're a business is to pay for it."

This means you may not receive my content anymore via the Facebook page because it doesn't make sense for me to pay Facebook to send you [insert what you do here].

So, if you'd like to BE SURE you don't miss out on all the great content we offer, you should hop on our email list.

And then you should link to an opt-in page.

Research: Facebook Drives Sales, Impacts Your Bottom Line

Research: Facebook Drives Sales, Impacts Your Bottom Line | Small business marketing | Scoop.it
Vincent Dickie's insight:

The debate about social media value & return on investment continues: As a response-based marketer, I'm always asking about the role of social media in driving sales.

This article demonstrates research that over a third of customers who engage with a social media post go on to purchase from that brand - that's a good number!

The article outlines the added value of customers sharing their post / like with their networks (84% of brand trust is earned through recommendations from friends / family / colleagues).

It also demonstrates the role of social media plays in helping people stumble upon new brands - personally I can testify to that with at least a dozen examples such as Yogaglo and Spotify.

What did we learn here: social media does play a role in driving sales, occasionally right away, but often value isn't immediately realised.

As content marketing becomes mainstream, how can your content stand out? Columnist Nate Dame discusses how to better understand your audience for content marketing success.
Vincent Dickie's insight:

Many of my clients know that having a blog is a good thing, mainly because it gets their website found in Google searches. The question is always 'What do I write about'? And that's a very good question.

The answer: Your blog posts (or Facebook posts for that matter), need to answer the questions of your target audience: What do they want to know? What do they care about? Most likely not more information about your core product/service, no - they want you to help solve their problems.

This article outlines a strategy for understanding customer problems, and how to create content that solves their problems - all the while, attracting new customers: It's a win-win!

The ABCs of Social Selling: Always Be Connected

Attributes of the Modern Sales Professional (and social media addict).

Vincent Dickie's insight:

What do people like me do? We don't sell, we connect people and businesses with integrity because we value relationships.

Here's a great quote from the article:

"The modern sales professional is actually not a seller, but is someone who helps people buy. This is someone who helps the buyer understand his problem, helps the buyer understand there’s a solution to the problem, and helps the buyer understand why her company is uniquely qualified to solve the buyer’s problem.

"Today’s buyers are better informed by information available via the web and social connections, yet their buying processes are longer because more people sit on the buying committee."

3 Ways Your Web Design Can Better Connect You to Your Audience - Copyblogger

3 Ways Your Web Design Can Better Connect You to Your Audience - Copyblogger | Small business marketing | Scoop.it
In order to create web design that connects, Copyblogger Lead Designer Rafal Tomal says we need to reach new levels of interaction with our audience.
Vincent Dickie's insight:

Great article to summarise what a good website should do.

It's not hard to make a good website - or, is it? It's clearly easy to make a poor website - there are many of them, and some if it is due to the fact they haven't been updated for years.

It's OK to have a poor website if you don't want to do business or build relationships online. However, some of us do want a website that works.

Similar to the article, when I audit a client's website, there are three broad categories I use:

1. Google criteria - Is the site mobile optimised? Does it contain fresh content, etc.

2. Marketing perspective - Does the site have social indicators such as likes on Facebook or client recommendations, and does it radiate trust?

3. Human interface perspective - Does the site look and feel nice to use?
