We’ve all endured “death by PowerPoint.” It’s a painful experience for the audience and probably not all that fun for the presenter either. To help my students deliver effective presentations—free of those deadly bullet points—I have my go-to applications.

NatalieHuynh's curator insight, August 22, 2013 2:32 AM

In my opinion, starting a business could be exciting. A strong brand can be able to help the business to be identified easily. However, building a strong brand  is a real challenge for all business organization. The article also includes  some great tips for a powerful brand identity.Knowing the true meaning behinds your brands and know the targets behind your products/services are critical steps. And then, try to make the brand approachable but differentiate by being creative and specific. After that, create a memorable connection between your business and consumers by communicating with them.  Besides, it is also important to ensure your brand's message as it is always consistent. Also, it is really important to rememeber an interesting tip is how you make 1 step backward to be able to step double forward. And so, what you give away can be an excellent marketing strategy. Furthermore, it is really really important to remember is to create a brand promise and keep it. For me I think this is an awesome and interesting article about building brand.

Rita's comment, August 26, 2013 1:26 PM
You each make excellent points. One source I read said that brand is confidence in a set of values. It is something your clients can grow to trust. It is the knowledge that your product is of highest value. How many branded items do you stock on the shelves of your pantry? Though slightly more in cost, many of people choose to go with a branded product because they know in advance what they'll be getting.
Leilani Verona Steffany's curator insight, April 3, 3:23 AM

I feel like this article is very much IMC related. Building strong brand identity by knowing what your brand stands for, who your target market is, using social media platforms as your brands voice, allowing you to get involved and engaged with your consumers, as well as provide compelling communications to emotionally connect/ motivate your customers,  but also making sure that all your marketing communications and consumer touch points are consistent and compliment each other. And Lastly deliver your promise so your consumers come back! I think yes, this sounds like a recipe of IMC???

8 Direct Mail & Social Media Marketing Mistakes Your Small Business Is Making

8 Direct Mail & Social Media Marketing Mistakes Your Small Business Is Making | Small Business | Scoop.it
Who says direct mail is dead? Many small businesses are spending their hard-earned money on direct mail campaigns to help drive traffic through their doors. But, with social media being where the “fish are”, I expected most small businesses use social media with their direct mail marketing. To dig a little deeper into this hypothesis this weekend, I opened up one of my hometown coupon packages that I found in my mailbox. I wanted to see how local small businesses, such as the ones in the Collegeville, PA area, were using social media to meet their business goals. I expected that every small business was using social media and making sure it was integrated into everything they did make sure their business was successful.

This article is very well put together and describes in detail with good use of examples the way in which small businesses are going about their marketing wrong, through direct marketing to try and gain a customer base. It suggests in the article that Social media outlets are in fact where the customers now are, and that the small businesses that are spending so much on direct marketing currently, in fact need to allocate their resources into social media to gain this much needed customer base.

Daryl Peterson's comment, September 26, 2013 6:24 PM
Yes matt this article is indeed very insightful and describes in detail what small businesses are doing wrong by using direct marketing with older methods. They should instead be taking into account exactly where all the consumers are which are on social media sites e.g facebook and consider advertising on there, making a page to get their brand image out to consumers within their segemented targer market. In doing so will have much better luck of succeeding using a modernised version of communication which is quick, efficient and effective in the world today.

What Is A Social Business? - B2B Marketing Insider

What Is A Social Business? - B2B Marketing Insider | Small Business | Scoop.it

After defining social selling, I realized I needed to take a step back and define what is a social business?... What is a Social Business? A social business places equal value on the needs of its customers, employees, partners and shareholders. This is not all that different from the concept behind one of the first posts I wrote 3 years ago this month. In that post, I talked about a book called “The Service Profit Chain” that inspired a lot of my early professional thoughts on marketing strategy. The basic theory presented in the book was that happier employees generate more customers who create more profit for the business. Makes sense, right? Yet in the race to quarterly profits, many businesses still struggle with the concept. More recently I talked about the many reasons why social business is important and I presented my own roadmap to become a social business including the need to define a social strategy that empowers social employees, activates effective content strategy and addresses the issue of culture....
