All You Need to Know About Infographics: Tips, Tutorials, Guides | SM | Scoop.it

Let’s be honest, we don’t like to read big pieces of text. Text-heavy graphs are rather difficult for understanding, especially when dealing with numbers and statistics. That is why illustrations and flowcharts are often used for such kind of information.

An infographic, or a visual representation of study or data, like anything else, can be done right or wrong. How to create a successful infographic? A good idea and a good design.

How to Use Hashtags on Twitter: A Simple Guide for Marketers

How to Use Hashtags on Twitter: A Simple Guide for Marketers | SM | Scoop.it

A simple guide to understanding how to effectively use Twitter hashtags in marketing and how you shouldn't! [note mg]

Every time we host live webinars (and as this long list suggests, that is quite often), quite a few attendees get confused about what to do with the hashtag we provide. What is it? What does it do? How do you create one? Let me explain!

What is a hashtag?

A Twitter hashtag is simply a keyword phrase, spelled out without spaces, with a pound sign (#) in front of it. For example, #inboundchat and #ILoveChocolate are both hashtags.

What does a hashtag do?

A Twitter hashtag ties the conversations of different users into one stream, which you can find by searching the hastag in Twitter Search or by using a third-party monitoring tool such as HootSuite.

How to Convert a Facebook Personal Profile to a Fan Page

How to Convert a Facebook Personal Profile to a Fan Page | SM | Scoop.it

Maybe some of you have wondered whether this approach was possible and if so, how to go about it, here is the guide that should put you on the right track. [note MG]

After reading Mike Sansone’s blog about how he was inspired by my act to leave Facebook, but chose to convert his personal page to a fan page instead of deletion, I was inspired to create this how-to do it post. Facebook has what they call a “help section” on this, but as usual, it’s completely unhelpful. Before I dive into the few steps it takes to do this, see what you think (left):

So, as you can see, it never really answers the question on how to convert my personal account to a Facebook page. I don’t know about you but Help sections on websites that don’t actually answer the question, I find quite frustrating.

Anyway, enough of my rant, here’s how you do it

The Hidden Guide to Using Twitter Effectively

The Hidden Guide to Using Twitter Effectively | SM | Scoop.it

When it comes to social media, there is not that much hidden about how it all works. The issue is that sometimes the information is hard to find in one place. So in this post, we are going to unearth some commonly unanswered questions in standard Twitter how to posts when it comes to getting the most out of your Twitter experience.

What is the New Twitter Activity Stream?
You may not have noticed it yet because you spend a lot of time in a Twitter management tool instead of on Twitter itself. But one of the new additions to Twitter is the Activity feed. You can find it when you log in to Twitter as a tab underneath your What’s happening box...

Your “How-To” Post Will Fail If You Don’t Use These Techniques

Your “How-To” Post Will Fail If You Don’t Use These Techniques | SM | Scoop.it

Gone are the days when you could write a simple “how-to” blog post and rank in the top search results. Why is that? Two very good reasons.

First, all of the general and highly-competitive posts like “how-to blog” or “how-to find a roommate” are already written.

The other reason is Google Panda. Remember Google’s update this past year that took down a lot of the content farms? That algorithm was designed to penalize short and shallow articles and reward high-quality content.

Now, I’ve got good news and bad news for you.

The Beginner’s Guide to Mobile App Marketing

The Beginner’s Guide to Mobile App Marketing | SM | Scoop.it

Getting your app discovered is the fundamental challenge every app marketer faces. With millions of apps across iOS, Android, Windows Phone, and other platforms, standing out in the boundless sea of available apps is becoming increasingly difficult.

The best app marketers will pursue a comprehensive, well-rounded app marketing strategy that includes pre-launch work and post-launch work. The best strategies will include organic and paid app marketing channels.

Here’s the complete guide to app marketing that every app owner needs to follow.

Before Launch

Contrary to popular belief, your marketing strategy needs to start well before your app goes live in the app store. A Beginner’s Guide to Conversion Goals in Google Analytics

A Beginner’s Guide to Conversion Goals in Google Analytics | SM | Scoop.it

There’s a reason that when companies call me about SEO, Paid Search, or Social Advertising, we always end up speaking about Analytics as well. The reason is simple. If you don’t have a rounded analytics strategy, then you won’t have a solid understanding of how your campaigns perform. In addition, if you don’t have the mechanisms in place to easily see how visitor segments perform, then important questions could go unanswered. And that’s not good for enhancing your business.

Enter the Conversion Goal
Concepts in Web Analytics can get confusing. You have event tracking, conversion goals, success events, multi-channel funnels, profiles, filters, dimensions, regular expressions, etc. This is one of the reasons that too many companies slap a tracking code on their websites and call it a day. The problem is that an “out of the box” Google Analytics implementation will only get you so far. Sure, you’ll get the basics, but that won’t necessarily help you glean insights that can boost ROI.

A Stalker’s Guide to Competitive Research

A Stalker’s Guide to Competitive Research | SM | Scoop.it

Competitive research is an area that’s either completely overlooked by a brand, or taken to an extreme level while missing the basic goals that need to be reached. Because competitive research becomes a cornerstone for strategy development, it’s important to research from inside the trees, and outside of the forest.

Overall, brands need to:

Identify what others are already doing in the space, and how successful they are. Identify areas of opportunity and weaknesses within their specific vertical. Identify what tactics a competitor is using to gain a competitive advantage.

What We’re Doing

We approach competitive research with these fundamental questions:

What is their link building strategy? How are they leveraging social media? Identify areas of weakness or opportunity in their strategy (notice whether they’re focusing strictly on their brand, or expanding into other social areas for maximum reach). How all these facets work together: focus on their overall “marketing strategy” rather than segregating them into “search” and “social.” Continuing the stalking with tips and tools.
