In today’s market, social media has become an essential factor of building a business strategy. It is very important that we approach and engage customers through social sites. In the beginning of this article, it shows that a successful social media strategy depends on establishing a sound business goal. Goals must be defined clearly to utilize the appropriate social media in achieving the business goal. After the goals are set, it is also important to define the metrics and tactics. This is because these will measure whether the social media efforts are creating consideration and conversions with the target audience. Through this process, companies can evaluate and measure success and failures, and prepare for a better business strategy to succeed in social media.

kevin bang's comment, May 9, 3:19 AM
I agree with your insight Soojin. Firms need to take social sites like Facebook or Twitter into account as many of their potential customers are most likely to use either one of them. It is hard to get people to engage with your product in any other way nowadays. Utilizing such approach is a good way of getting people to know what you're selling.

This post was written by Melonie Gallegos for iMediaconnection

In this piece, there are 8 tips to help marketers get in on the social curation boom in a meaningful way - that means Pinterest and beyond!

Here's an excerpt:

"Curation is a long-standing tradition of collecting, saving & organizing objects. Today it takes on a different meaning. Organizataions have evolved from collecting artifacts to digital curation of media and content"

When human behavior shifts and it certainly has, (more about that in the article), brands are quick to follow suit.

Here are some highlights:

There are a lot of websites offfering curation-type services

To get a clear sense of how a brand might leverage curation in this article, they have broken them down into categories.

**social bookmarking and news

**sharing

**Aggregation and syndication networks

**There are 8 ways your brand can get in on the action

Here are a few that caught my attention:

Become a curator creator

**Create your own Pinterest board and it's more than just slapping images, it takes thought, strategy, being part of the community and continually showing up

**appreciating other people's content and having two-way conversations

Create an Interest-based content strategy

**Focus on the interests of your audience, not your products and services!

**Allign their real-life interests with your brand position

5 Ways Writers Can Break Out of the Tired Old Social Media Box

5 Ways Writers Can Break Out of the Tired Old Social Media Box | SM | Scoop.it

The social media world is changing daily. In other words, we must be alert and aware of the new tools that could support us in our approach. This interesting article speaks about some "new" tools that can also help us to go towards to success. [note Martin Gysler]

It’s time to teach that old dog some new tricks.

That old dog I’m referring to is social media.

Sure, you’re already blogging, and on Twitter, LinkedIn, Google+, Facebook, and more. Great.

But I’m telling you — there’s more to social media than meets the eye. The final chapter on social media hasn’t been written.

When I kicked off my writing business in April, I decided to use social media my way.

I approached these overused networks as if I’d never heard of them. I made my own rules. I set different expectations. You could say I wrote my own chapter on social media marketing.

Maybe it’s time to reconsider Pinterest for your business right now. If you want do so, follow the step-by-step lesson from Jeff Bullas, useful. [note Martin Gysler]

Pinterest is booming. The site grew to 26.7 million unique visitors last month. This rapid growth has drawn businesses, especially retailers, to expand their presence on the site. Pinterest has just announced Pinterest pages for business.

My, those folks over at Pinterest have been busy! In the space of a few short weeks, users have been surprised by 3 new rollouts – verification of Pinterest accounts, the introduction of secret boards and now, the ability to create business pages.
So what does this new update mean for business owners? After all, it was not too long ago that Pinterest was warning us about self-promotion and commercial usage was downright prohibited.
Nevertheless, thousands of businesses have flocked to Pinterest since its inception in 2009 to create accounts and drive brand awareness in the hope of boosting sales.
