Are you future ready?

I love the idea of  thinking about the future of your organization and then  writing down the skills they will need in the future. We actually did this exercise with our team (MACPA/BLI) a few months ago and identified, flexibility,  collaboration, adaptability, strategic thinking, empathy, and a few others. Although we used #MBSN and sticky notes :)

Then we helped the AICPA do this with over one thousand CPAs in 2011 by using two sets of research by futurists looking out to 2025, then asking what skills would they need to be successful in the future. They answered Leadership, Communication, Strategic Thinking, Collaboration & Synthesis, and  Technologically Savvy. These competendies are the foundation of our Business Learning Institute.

Start with your strategy as an organization (and even in your career) and then  ask yourself what skills do I need to be successful in the future? Start learning those skills and you will be future proof, at least for a little while...

AlGonzalezinfo's curator insight, June 2, 2013 9:11 AM

I would add "being willing to be wrong" to the Collabortative Spirit on the list.  Many managers get hung up on being right instead of accepting their mistakes and allowing others to lead.

From the article:

1. Authenticity: Every leader faces the temptation to project a persona rather than be themselves. They think that to maintain the confidence of their team, they must appear faultless, flawless and wise. Yet most organizations need an authentic leader, not a perfect one. Today's leader must develop the art of self-awareness.

Quit trying to emulate someone else and start being yourself. Share and be honest about your own struggles.

By doing this, you'll immediately gain influence.
