Excellent Guides and Tutorials to Help Kids Make Engaging Educational Movies ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning | Skolbiblioteket och lärande | Scoop.it

"Engaging kids in creative video productions allows them to develop communication skills and enhances their technical know-how. It also gives them an avenue through which they can practice multimodal expressions and present information in numerous ways. This multimodality in communicating information does not only help students understand topics much better and at a deeper level but is also an elemental feature of the 21st century learning."

Inquiry-based Learning

"We continue to work on this project that was originally supported by the TEACHER LEARNING and LEADERSHIP PROGRAM (TLLP) with the Ontario Ministry of Education.  Our project Uncovering Content-Integrating Critical Thinking into Social Studies for 21st Century Learners was developed because as teachers we felt we needed to enhance our knowledge of using critical thinking questions and inquiry-based learning in order for our students to become actively engaged in their learning."

27 Ways To Inspire Innovative Thinking In Students

27 Ways To Inspire Innovative Thinking In Students | Skolbiblioteket och lärande | Scoop.it

Innovative thinking in students will flower when we design classrooms that absolutely can’t survive without it. Same with critical thinking, self-direction, creativity, and so on. Until we reach that point, it’s on the shoulders of the classroom teacher to tease it out of students through a combination of inspiration, modeling, scaffolding, and creating persistent opportunity.

When High School Students Struggle with Textbook Reading

When High School Students Struggle with Textbook Reading | Skolbiblioteket och lärande | Scoop.it
Many textbooks aren't even close to authentic reading experiences. Minimize student struggle by identifying purpose, assigning reasonable homework, and teaching them to self-monitor for understanding.

Charles Fischer's curator insight, June 28, 2014 9:37 AM

Because many students struggle with textbook reading, they need time to practice IN CLASS with a variety of texts. Socratic Seminar provides the perfect opportunity because students have to take charge of their own understandings, they share their personal strategies and can practice, practice, practice!

iPamba's curator insight, June 29, 2014 9:42 PM

Sometimes we forget that post-secondary students often have difficulty coping with reading requirements, especially in courses that introduce them to new disciplines. Too often they are left on their own to sink or swim.

Schools are doing Education 1.0; talking about doing Education 2.0; when they should be planning and implementing Education 3.0.

This post seeks to compare the developments of the Internet-Web to those of education.  The Internet has become an integral thread of the tapestries of most societies throughout the globe.  The web influences people’s way of thinking, doing and being; and people influence the development and content of the web.  The Internet of today has become a huge picture window and portal into human perceptions, thinking, and behavior.  Logically, then, it would seem that schools would follow suit in mimicking what is happening via the Internet to assist children and youth to function, learn, work, and play in a healthy, interactive, and pro-social manner in their societies-at-large.

How Much Data Is Generated On Twitter, Instagram, Vine, Tinder & WhatsApp Every Minute? | AllTwitter | Skolbiblioteket och lärande | Scoop.it

Here’s the thing: the internet never sleeps.Which means data never sleeps, and the internet sure likes to use up a lot of it. How much? In any given minute, 277,000 tweets are published on Twitter, 216,000 photos are sent to Instagram and 8,333 videos are shared on Vine. And we’re just getting started. Over that same 60 second period, 347,222 photos are sent on WhatsApp, 416,667 swipes are made on Tinder and 3,472 images are pinned on Pinterest. And if you think that’s impressive, Google receives 4 millions search queries, Facebook users share 2.46 million pieces of content and 204 million email messages are sent each and every minute of the day. This visual from DOMO looks at how much data is generated every minute across the net....
