Forum-style, collaborative mind maps. Visual root is a place to create online, collaborative mind-maps using video, images, and text. Practically, the goal is for one person to start with an idea, or topic, and for other people to be able expand and improvise on that idea using different forms of media. You could also view the site as an image-board of sorts, where there's an initial post or thread, and image and video (and text) responses to that thread and the entire thread has a mind-map like structure. A very interesting application which produces irregular mind maps from one "root" that can be an idea, a concept, an image etc. The maps are created by the users, they are interactive and "live", you can move the nodes around, interact with other people, vote on individual nodes, zoom in and out, share portions of maps. Great for collaborative school projects and presentations. Delete the scoop?

Group brainstorming application GroupMap lets students and teachers work collaboratively on producing ideas, plans, reflections, revision and exam preparation, case studies, projects etc. Free account allows to involve 5 participants and create 25 public maps.There are also different paid accounts. Watch the tutorial http://www.groupmap.com/tour/ about how to use this tool. At present GroupMap requires Google Chrome or Safari browsers on your PC, or Safari on your iPad.

I track discussions about mind mapping on Twitter and in blogs, and I often hear or read the question "Which is the best mindmapping software?" Anyone who gives you a single, immediate answer either knows you and your mindmapping activities very well, or is likely recommending the one that they've become familiar with themselves.

Glinkr seems to be a friendly mind mapping tool which produces a visual plan, map or scheme consisting of boxes and arrows. The maps are easy to edit and easy to share. There is a detailed user's guide with all the possible questions answered. Suitable for using with students. Delete the scoop?
