"Many schools that have adopted a 1:1 program have made the mistake of forgetting the library. The library is the cornerstone of every school and is in a current state of flux. No one knows what to make of the library and some feel it is a relic in the context of schools. New information technologies emerge and the library is soon forgotten or pushed to the side, however, the library has never been more important." "On one hand, teaching our students about how to conduct good quality research is pretty much the most important skill we can impart, and should ideally form the foundation of everything we do. On the other hand, I live in the real world and know how hard it is to both find the time to foster and develop such skills in our students, and what a difficult task it actually is." Building upon a process- and context-oriented information quality framework, this paper seeks to map and explore what we know about the ways in which young users of age 18 and under search for information online, how they evaluate information, and how their related practices of content creation, levels of new literacies, general digital media usage, and social patterns affect these activities.

"Critical inquiry skills are among the most important in a world in which the half-life of information is rapidly shrinking. These days, what you know is almost less important than what you can find out." The ability to evaluate and filter the information is now being suggested as the significant skill that we all need to be improving. Via Karen Bonanno, Carey Leahy, Anu Ojaranta Delete the scoop?

"Earlier this week, Google introduced Knowledge Graph, the company's new search technology that understands "things not strings" and adds rich and relevant details about your query in the sidebar of your search results. Here are five great things you can now do with a quick Google search."
"I took the new version of Google Search for a spin to find out just what it can do, and have to say it's pretty useful. To recap, Google now connects your search query with its knowledgebase, which includes Wikipedia and the CIA World Factbook. If you search for a person, place, or thing within that 500+ million object database, Google adds the related key facts alongside the regular search results. (The tech is still rolling out, but you should see it when you're logged into Google sometime in the next few days, if you don't already.) More information is available than most people can imagine. That's nothing new. Librarians have always shown people how to find it, evaluate it, and use it. Finding particular information and knowing how to evaluate its reliability is as difficult as ever. Via Karen Bonanno Delete the scoop?
