A Great Guide on Teaching Students about Digital Footprint

A Great Guide on Teaching Students about Digital Footprint | Sizzlin' News | Scoop.it

Have you ever Googled yourself ? Have you ever checked your virtual identity? Do you know that you leave a digital footprint every time you get online? Do you know that whatever you do online is accumulated into a digital dossier traceable by others ? These and several other similar questions are but the emerging tip of the sinking iceberg. One that is packed full of concerns related to issues of our online identity and privacy issues.

Via Gust MEES
Sharla Shults's insight:

This is sizzlin'! When we are first born, our physical handprint and footprint become part of our birth record. As we grow and learn, our digital footprint defines our lives: who we are, what we stand for, when we meet and greet others, where we have been, why we think as we do and how we inspire/motivate others, whether positively or negatively.

What are you leaving behind? Are you prepared to be Googled...by your parents, grandparents, friends, future employers?

Take a moment and imagine a creative work environment. Don't worry about the kind of work going on. Just focus on the space. Close your eyes and picture it. What is that space like? What does it sound like? How are people interacting? Is there movement? Is there evidence of work in progress? Is it tidy, or busy-messy? Can you imagine working there?

Now, go to the article and see if your mental picture anything like either of the workspaces shown in the photos.

What Do You Do with Social Media Content During a Tragedy? There Is No One Answer

By Mike Brown

Any time we have an all eyes on the news tragedy, there is a question about what brands should do with their social media content:

-Do you act like major networks and news programs and start exclusively sharing updates and (second hand) news about the tragedy?

-Do you act like a cable network and keep up with whatever social media content was already planned, irrespective of the news?

-Do you go completely dark out of respect for the tragedy and its victims?

Sharla Shults's insight:

Since many times all you can do in these situations is pray or pay (i.e., donate), prayers are at the top of the heap to help victims.

Personalize Learning: 10 Predictions for Personalized Learning for 2013 | Sizzlin' News | Scoop.it
Check out what Personalized Learning will be like in 2013.

The main change that will happen in teaching and learning in 2013 will be about empowerment. Teachers and learners will be more empowered to take charge of their learning. We will see this through the evidence they share as they learn.

Sharla Shults's insight:

I don't see this as anything new. Evidence through assessment has always been gathered during the learning process. It is the methods that have been the focus for change throughout the years. As technology increases, so does the need for reevaluating forms of assessment. Where portfolios have been a qualitative form of assessment, today one might see an ePortfolio.

Should You Use Vine For Your Small Business? These 6 Qs Will Help You Decide - Spokal

What’s Vine?

It’s Twitters new social network that makes it easy to create and share social videos on the go.

Twitter is obsessed with limitations (because they breed creativity), so just like we only have 140 characters in a tweet, we only have 6 seconds to shoot a Vine.

Vine was released on February 4, 2013 and within 7 days of launching, over 100,000 Vines had been shared. Which makes you think…

Sharla Shults's insight:

Just think, if a picture is worth 1,000 words, how much is 6 seconds of video worth? If you do the math, there’s an average of 24 frames a second. Multiply that by 6 seconds and we get 144 frames. That’s the equivalent to 144,000 words!

Instead of a 'bucket' list, DESIRE list sounds much better! When you think about such a list, aren't the things included truly that which is desired but not yet achieved?
