Inside the Paris apartment untouched for 70 years: Treasure trove finally revealed after owner locked up and fled at outbreak of WWII

Inside the Paris apartment untouched for 70 years: Treasure trove finally revealed after owner locked up and fled at outbreak of WWII | Sizzlin' News | Scoop.it
Laying untouched for seven decades the abandoned home was discovered three years ago after its owner died aged 91.

Caked in dust and full of turn-of-the century treasures, this Paris apartment is like going back in time.

The woman who owned the flat, a Mrs De Florian, had fled for the south of France before the outbreak of the Second World War.

She never returned and in the 70 years since, it looks like no-one had set foot inside.

Some of The Most Important Foods Every Woman Must Eat Organically | | Sizzlin' News | Scoop.it
Learn exactly what foods you need to be eating organically from now on!

If we all lived in a perfect world we’d do our weekly food shopping at the local farmer’s markets, eating eggs that were just laid by our pet chickens, working with our local neighbors to buy whole grass fed cows, and having our local farmers over for dinner, and so on.

This lifestyle would result in us being extremely healthy, but unfortunately the reality that I just described isn’t realistic for most people to live out on a day to day basis… and honestly who on earth would want to even if it was possible?

Sharla Shults's insight:

Ultimately the cleaner your diet, the healthier you will get and in the long run not only will you get into great shape but you’ll be full of energy too!

Will Gibbs and the ‘NCIS’ Team Be the Subjects of a Witch Hunt? | XFINITY TV Blog by Comcast | Sizzlin' News | Scoop.it

Despite the fact that on last week’s episode of “NCIS” Director Leon Vance (Rocky Carroll) told Ziva David (Cote de Pablo) that Homeland would have to handle the Ilan Bodnar (Oded Fehr) investigation, his eyes gave off a completely different signal, urging her to do whatever needed to be done to bring Bodnar to justice. Not surprising, when you consider that Bodnar murdered Vance’s wife and Ziva’s father, and that this particular branch of naval investigators tends to color outside the lines.

Video: The Making of the World’s Smallest Video | Technology on GOOD | Sizzlin' News | Scoop.it

Scientists have developed tools to investigate the mysteries of our universe as never before, whether using high powered telescopes to peer at galaxies beyond our own, or specially designed microscopes to pinpoint the millions of molecules on the tip of your finger. From the furthest reaches of space to the tiniest particles on Earth, scientists are pioneering ways to see our world in entirely new ways. In this spirit of discovery, the IBM atomic memory research team have been exploring the limits and capabilities of how atoms—the building blocks of everything on Earth—can be used in unexpected ways. As they study how these tiny particles might be used for storing immense amounts of data in computation and information storage, they decided to make a movie created with atoms—a challenging, never attempted feat to painstakingly move thousands of individual atoms—to show what can be possible in atomic research.

Sharla Shults's insight:

The IBM team created what’s now known as the world’s smallest movie, A Boy and His Atom, which was made by magnifying atoms 100 million times through a scanning tunneling microscope.

60 Days Of Stories: The Global Mom Relay

60 Days Of Stories: The Global Mom Relay | Sizzlin' News | Scoop.it
Sunday is Mother's Day, one of the year's high points of gratitude.

So as we honor the mothers among us (and those no longer among us), there's no better time to tap into that gratitude and draw on the qualities that make mothers such a force for good -- their generosity, their nurturing, their unconditional love -- in order to improve the lives of mothers and children around the world.

There is no love more intense than the love we have for our children. Consider the story of YingYing Shang, who recently wrote on HuffPost about her own mother, whose insistence on the importance of "schooling and re-schooling" was a constant in YingYing's life, as her mother worked and struggled to lift them out of poverty and a life of dingy apartments, beat-up mattresses and cockroaches that roamed the kitchen at night.

To innovate, scientists and engineers find inspiration in the arts | SmartPlanet

To innovate, scientists and engineers find inspiration in the arts | SmartPlanet | Sizzlin' News | Scoop.it

In the innovation field, a rebirth of Renaissance thinking is brewing. Scientists and engineers are engaging with the arts to think creatively.

The idea is also currently reflected in the debates on re-vamping the U.S. educational system to boost the innovation skills of U.S. students. Media artist John Maeda, president of the Rhode Island School of Design, has spoken at numerous events — including before Congress — about the value of incorporating the arts to STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) educational initiatives, turning STEM to “STEAM,” as Maeda has said.

Sharla Shults's insight:

Some disciplines have evolved to their own death. Engineering has evolved logically, but not necessarily culturally,” Silver of Intel and Makey Makey, who was trained as an electrical engineer, told me at PopTech. “Creativity isn’t part of that any more. So we look to where it is; we’re desperate for it. We look to art. And it’s wonderful, because it’s there.”

8 Educational Apps To Create Digital Portfolios

Digital portfolios are becoming increasingly popular in classrooms across North America.

School administration, teachers, parents, and students are all recognizing  the benefits of this amazing tool. Digital portfolios have the ability to impact education and student learning in ways that we simply have not been able to do before technology evolved to the level it is at today. This exciting new technological era will change the ways students think and learn, creating digital arenas for sharing work and building on knowledge.

Many educators are eager and willing to incorporate digital portfolios into their curriculum. Others are more hesitant, but remain curious about this newly evolved portfolio – wondering about how this technology might inspire and engage their students into more self-directed learning and reflection. Whichever side of the fence you are on, here is a list of classroom-approved resources to help get you started!
