There are many more voice careers out there outside of being a rockstar. I've set out to find one for me.

Kaitlyn LaBorn's insight:

According to this article, Walt Disney was the third highest paying company in the US in 2012. This includes anyone from a director to a janitor working for Disney, but it goes to show that there is money in working for Disney. If I were to go into a singing career it encourages me to find a job with Disney because this article claims Disney pays well. I would like to do more research on the topic.

HOW TO LAND AN ACTING GIG ON THE DISNEY CHANNEL ...

HOW TO LAND AN ACTING GIG ON THE DISNEY CHANNEL ... | Singing Careers | Scoop.it
Disney is properly known for effective animated attribute films, and voice over expertise is also needed. Auditions for the Disney ...
Kaitlyn LaBorn's insight:

This aqrticle is a little wordy and generally talks about what Disney Channel is, rather than what they want. It does get to the point and talks about how to get an audition. Instead of "how to land an acting gig," it talks more about how to get an audition. I find the title to be a little misleading but the information presented is a good thing to know if you want a job in Disney. First off, they say you need to find where an audition near you will take place. You look to see what area you might be most suitable, and depending upon your request, you may have to send other materials such as a portfolia or demo tape for singers. Last, you need to be prepared. I wish this article said more about what Disney looks for, but the information that is does have is important nonetheless.

Tonal Tuesday - 5 Minutes to Improving Your Singing

Tonal Tuesday - 5 Minutes to Improving Your Singing | Singing Careers | Scoop.it

Sometimes it's important to go back to the basics. Even the most seasoned singers forgets the little thigs sometimes. I know one time I was so nervous performing a solo in front of an ejudicator that I you could tell in the way I held my body how tense I was. It was the first thing brought to my attention when I finished. Sometimes it's these little things that catch us up and it's important to review every once in a while to stay fresh in your singing.

Piqua women turn singing talents into small business - Dayton Daily News

Piqua women turn singing talents into small businessDayton Daily NewsFriends April Grove and Natalie Liptock hope to sing their way through the holidays, and beyond. Both said music has long been in their lives.
Kaitlyn LaBorn's insight:

This article is just a feel-good. Pretty much these women saw their last children off to college and didn't have much responsibility anymore. While keeping up their dayjobs, they formed a singing group that they hope can turn into business for weddings and parties. Their story just goes to show that it is never to late to get started in a career in singing.

BEHIND THE SCENES: Acting is the key to good singing - Sarasota Herald-Tribune

BEHIND THE SCENES: Acting is the key to good singing - Sarasota Herald-Tribune | Singing Careers | Scoop.it

According to this article, sometimes good acting makes up for a lack of singing ability. If you can convey the feelings of the music, your ability might not matter as much. Acting out the music and showing the feeling through your facial expressions, actions, and intensity can make or break a song. A great singer can crank out those notes all they want, but if they don't have the face to show the pain or love or excitment of the music, they might as well have a terrible singing voice. Many of us have seen a middle school choir performance or little kids trying to act. They focus so much of their attention on remembering the words or notes that they look distant or disinterested. Good acting can make all the difference and it's something I know my choir teachers have been trying to drill in me for years.

LOVE THIS. This helps prove that you may be lacking in one thing, in this case singing, but if you are strong in another area it can help. Although both singing and acting are critical, you may be stronger in one more than the other.

Disney Works Teen Stars To Death, But Says Its Not Their Job To ...

According to this article, Disney is almost ruthless these days. They work their stars to the brink of sanity and we watch them fall apart and their lives are ruined. They take advantage of the fact that there is an endless supply of young people who would like their own show and bring in a new kid to take the place as soon as the last one fails. Disney's name isn't ruined when a star is caught smoking marijuana or taking scandalous photos. They just throw the next best thing out there and everyone forgets that they had anything to do with the stars' demise. This article kind of turns me off of Disney because of their terrible practices, but I don't want to be a star, so I don't think I would be worked quite as hard and not being in the limelight, my mistakes wouldn't hit headlines.

The top 5 ‘dream jobs’ | Articles | Home | Singing Careers | Scoop.it

LinkedIn asked its members to identify their childhood dreams and say whether they’ve reached those dreams as adults. For women, being a singer is number five reported. Obviously, not all women can have their drea jobs, and so many women wanting to get in the singing business makes it hard to make it on your own. The more people that flood the career, the less need for new people. This will make it highly difficult to make a career out of singing.
