SPACEX AWARDED LAUNCH RESERVATION CONTRACT FOR LARGEST CANADIAN SPACE PROGRAM | Simply Awesome | Scoop.it

Hawthorne, CA – Space Exploration Technologies (SpaceX) was awarded a launch reservation contract with MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd. (MDA) to support the largest space program to date in Canada, carrying the three satellites to orbit that will make up the RADARSAT Constellation Mission (RCM) on a Falcon 9 rocket in 2018.

 

"SpaceX appreciates MDA’s confidence in our ability to safely and reliably transport their satellites,” said Gwynne Shotwell, SpaceX President and COO. “We hope this agreement is the second of many with MDA.”

A major oncology group is launching an ambitious project to collect data on the care of hundreds of thousands of cancer patients and use it to help guide treatment of other patients across the health-care system.

More on the enormously positive impact Big Data is going to have on the world. OK--we've seen this movie before, in the '80's and '90's, with AI and expert systems...however this time given the ever-exponentially-increasing amount of data we have to analyze, improving analytical techniques, and increasing computational power, I think we are going to see some major, humanity-changing advances not only in medicine but in virtually every aspect of our lives.

I guess this means i have a (Tres) "Petit Goatee". however i might one day opt to transition to the "Mighty El Insecto", it being the only other respectible configuration of facial hair i could practically grow. Except of course the "Johnny Depp half-assed Handlebar and Chin Puff".

I love to talk about the sexy aspects of technology innovation, but my roots have always been in the nuts and bolts, and with the explosive growth of cloud computing those nuts and bolts are becoming more and more relevant--and their power needs more and more significant, both literally and figuratively.

 

Moonshot servers are hardly going to fix all of HP's problems as a company, but i think they are an under appreciated and under reported testament to the fact that HP still retains an innovative edge.

Despite reports to the contrary, NASA's tiny interplanetary probe Voyager 1 has not really left the solar system yet.

Wow. Just f'ing WOW. it's 18 Billion km away and we are quibbling over where the solar system's border is? It was launched 35 YEARS AGO AND IS STILL WORKING!! i'm not sure there's anything on this planet that was built 35 years ago and, with no repairs or maintenance, is still working. God Bless American Ingenuity.
