Regional war in Yemen challenges Iran talks

Regional war in Yemen challenges Iran talks | Simple Life | Scoop.it
US said to be aiming for agreement by March 29.
Charles-Adrien Fourmi's insight:

Impact on Regional equilibrium or purely Economical?

Nonetheless signing an agreement with Iran is symbolic and landmark for American foreign policy. American diplomats have had very few relations with them since the 1979 Islamic Revolution and the Tehran hostage situation. That’s the formal story as "informally" so many "Persian-Americans" have succeeded in living the American Dream.  It’s reported that Iran's neighbors, Turkey and Israel, have critically commented on Iran's regional policy as negotiations started in the wake of defense operations by the Kingdom of Saudi-Arabia.

We can identify clear reasons why the United States and Europe "P5+1 group" are now seeking a deal.

(1)        To debut a new diplomatic history with Iran although Americans and Europeans do not share the current internal Human Rights situation. To enter a more pragmatic diplomatic framework with Middle Eastern Powers, to that, for example, of aligning Iran in an Axis of Evil.

(2)        To adhere to international standards in the eventual amelioration of the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). The treaty, Iran has said, is providing legal possibility to develop civil nuclear power.

(3)        To ensure that Iran does not develop a nuclear weapon program which could fuel a quite risky nuclear arms-race in the Middle-East. The technical details and criteria at the Iranian national level should be then clearly defined.

(4)        To provide prospects in easing the relations between power poles in the Middle-East : Iran, Israël, Turkey and Saudi Arabia. This highly depends on the level of trust that these countries will offer in US foreign policy meaning “they should trust the American judgment” and aid it as well in cultural, economic, social diplomacy with those countries.

(5)        To ensure that any attempt to develop an illegal or illicit nuclear weapon program will indeed be considered within diplomatic norms, instead of military norms. It’s better judgment to share based on written standards than based on confidential intelligence resources.

(6)        Overall, for the US to reemerge as international actor that works in preventing isolation of “in-conflict” countries vis-à-vis regional forces as well as Western countries.

Signing an agreement could send those types of messages for the international opinion. To the extent that it remains a purely economic one is not the least possibility considering the actual opinion of countries paying close attention to the P5+1. There are surely more specific and general causes, but what is here important is to be able or not to honor the agreement politically or economically based on its content and/or future development.

Last, but not least, the nuclear civil program, once authentified, should able to fulfil the potential of internal economic and social development in Iran. The cross-regional (Central Asia, Asia, Russia and Near-East) relations are not examined at this stage. Moreover, this is important in considering American politics in what will be very important presidential elections in 2016.

The result of the deal is far from neutral and could potentially vary in good or bad potential within the next 5 to 10 years.

Could the Arctic be the next Crimea? | Simple Life | Scoop.it
Tensions run high at the North Pole as Russia casts an eye toward expanding its maritime claims.
Charles-Adrien Fourmi's insight:

The United States will preside over the Arctic Council. The region is goint through international relations issues as borders are agreed based on United Nations Law of the Sea. We find that problems are environmental ethics and biodiversity, economic, indigenous-people, and politcal-military oriented.
