6 Internet Lessons I Learned From My Mom

6 Internet Lessons I Learned From My Mom | Silvia T's Sussex newsletter | Scoop.it

Mob mentality can take over all too easily online. Your social stream has likely been flooded with status updates about breaking news. While it's important to stay current, establish a strong personal brand that doesn't waver based on what's trending. After all, the root of mom's lesson is to stay true to yourself.

What's your digital footprint? Take this quiz and find out! | Silvia T's Sussex newsletter | Scoop.it

I developed this quiz with members of my personal learning network (found at end of post) to get students thinking about their digital footprint. The quiz was created at the request of high school students I spoke with who thought the creation of a such a quiz could lead to a smart conversation about ways students can update their digital footprint so that it is one that leads to college and career success.

This is a really useful quiz and well worth checking out and trying with your students. Highly recommended.

Martin King's curator insight, May 16, 2013 8:55 AM

This would be much more appealling - to me and all those natives -  if it was repurposed as an interactive quiz.  If time and Google Drive allows I may well get busy - and share alike.

Google Play for Education: Google goes after Apple’s K-12 stranglehold with cheap apps, tablets

Google Play for Education: Google goes after Apple’s K-12 stranglehold with cheap apps, tablets | Silvia T's Sussex newsletter | Scoop.it

"Today at its I/O event, Google announced Google Play for Education: A version of the Play store that is aimed and curated for young kids.

"Applications that are in the Play for Education store are sorted by age and genre. So, users can find math-based applications that are appropriate for their kindergartener, who wants to learn more math.

"However, what is most interesting about Play for Education is the ability for administrators to send out applications to their entire tablet fleet. So, if a school wants to send an app to their 200 Nexus 7 devices, they can do so, by simply inputting the group’s name. The app will be pushed out by Google."

This is a really great example of augmented reality which connects Wikipedia to your local environment. Great for doing research projects into the things that surround you. Just open up the app and point it in any direction.

Educational Technology and Mobile Learning: Awesome Poster on Bloom's Revised Taxonomy

Educational Technology and Mobile Learning: Awesome Poster on Bloom's Revised Taxonomy | Silvia T's Sussex newsletter | Scoop.it

Med Kharback:

I just got this poster from a fellow teacher featuring the 6 thinking skills as outlined in the revised taxonomy. As you probably know, Blooms taxonomy that was first created in the 1950s has been revised by Krathwohl and there are two  main changes that appeared in this revised taxonomy: the first one is semantic in that nouns are now being replaced with verbs; and the second change relates to the order of these thinking skills. In the old taxonomy, Bloom highlighted the importance of evaluating and therefore placed it at the top of the  thinking continuum, but for Krathwohl Creating is the highest order thinking skill.
