I must admit, I was pretty skeptical when our day-care provider first suggested that we teach our daughter sign language. “I don't even know sign language,” I thought to myself.

The African parents are so limited in knowing the great help that the knowledege of sign language can bring to the development of their deaf children. My late brother Jonathan Tinat was able to become a successful Mining Engineer as a deaf because the family supported his bilingualism.
