Consumer Society is not about people
One of the key issues seems to be a failure to understand what the Consumer Society is about.
People confuse the idea of consumption - the creation of wants and needs to be filled with goods and services with the idea of consumers - people who are convinced to buy and consume.
The manufacturers and companies care about consumption not consumers.
It is the drive for them to build more factories, shops and offices to make and fill them with more stuff to be sold and consumed.
It is not about the people.
So, to use an example that turned up on Twitter that day, the jam jar is a terrible product for many people. Difficult to open, hard to identify for many.
It continues because it is an efficient way of storing and delivering jam for manufacturers and shops.
