Bass Reeves, one of the first African Americans to become a Deputy U.S. Marshal west of the Mississippi River, could have been an inspiration for Quentin Tarantino’s fictional character Django.
Kev Richards's insight:
In Westworld they have a black Marshall which I thought might be improbable in the Wild West. But lo and behold there really was a black Marshall famous in his own time.
Naturally Hollywood isn't interested in a story about the first successful black lawman who comes from slave to being a US Marshall and who died well off and successful.
Morgan Freeman has been trying for years to get a film made. It is not just the news that is managed but knowledge too. Fortunately the facts and documents are there to be discovered. A fascinating story waiting to be told! Django is not the same at all.
Directed by Robert Wise. With Michael Rennie, Patricia Neal, Hugh Marlowe, Sam Jaffe. An alien lands and tells the people of Earth that they must live peacefully or be destroyed as a danger to other planets.
Kev Richards's insight:
Love this old b&w sci fi film which is recognised as a classic. Made in the time of Cold War paranoia a spaceman is sent to warn the earth that they must mend their ways or be destroyed. Gort is the robot which will carry out the task. It is indestructable, doesn't speak, can't be reasoned with and will destroy any aggressor. It has no politics. Wonderful wishful thinking!
Copyright extremism - and greed. It's about time the "rights" to long dead authors of any work should have a time limit. If he Copyright extrmists had their way Shakespeare would still be "owned" by them. It's the author who owns his or her work and should benefit. Not his decendents in perpetuity.
Last week the content-creating industry launched a new effort aimed at preventing copyright infringement: the Copyright Alert System—CAS, also called "six strikes." It's a warning system intended to curb illegal downloads of music, movies, and other content by consumers over peer-to-peer networks. Instead of imposing heavy fines or arresting egregious downloaders, ISPs will warn them (up to six times), attempt to educate them, and then take corrective measures.

Kev Richards's insight:
Trippy 60s lyrics sung by Noel Harrison in the film of Mr Cool Steve McQueen. This is famous for turning a game of chess into an erotic battle of the sexes between him and Faye Dunaway.
Round, like a circle in a spiral, like a wheel within a wheel, Never ending or beginning on an ever-spinning reel, Like a snowball down a mountain or a carnival balloon, Like a carousel that's turning, running rings around the moon, Like a clock whose hands are sweeping past the minutes of its face, And the world is like an apple whirling silently in space, Like the circles that you find in the windmills of your mind, Like a tunnel that you follow to a tunnel of its own, Down a hollow to a cavern where the sun has never shone, Like a door that keeps revolving in a half-forgotten dream, Or the ripples from a pebble someone tosses in a stream, Like a clock whose hands are sweeping past the minutes of its face, And the world is like an apple whirling silently in space Like the circles that you find in the windmills of your mind, Keys that jingle in your pocket, words that jangle in your head, Why did summer go so quickly? Was it something that you said? Lovers walk along a shore and leave their footprints in the sand, Is the sound of distant drumming just the fingers of your hand? Pictures hanging in a hallway or the fragment of a song, Half-remembered names and faces but to whom do they belong? When you knew that it was over you were suddenly aware, That the autumn leaves were turning to the colour of her hair, A circle in a spiral, a wheel within a wheel, Never ending or beginning, on an ever-spinning reel, As the images unwind, like the circles that you find, In the windmills of your mind.
Madonna is a great singer but always did pull cheap stunts. Here is a good example of the current brainless autoreaction to anything to do with sex and celebrities. The Moral Outrage Society, a self appointed group of vindictive, nasty, dangerous people, who live in Social Media, are outraged! No perspective, no context, zero sense of humour. They are obsessed with age, 17 so she must be a victim. Spontaneity cannot happen. Madonna should have asked. What the girl says is refreshingly adult: her body, her choice and she will decide when and if to be outraged not other people. She won't try to destroy Madonna's career because of a mistake. She has not been sexually assaulted. One thing I agree on - if it had been a man who touched her he would probably have been arrested but it is fine if a woman does the naughty deed. Personally I couldn't care less about any of it but there is a dangerous climate of moral bullying out there which should be challenged.
