"The U.S. Department of Agriculture is reviewing research showing that new bacteria-killing chemicals used in chicken slaughterhouses may be masking the presence of salmonella and other pathogens that remain on the birds that consumers buy..."

Do you think the chicken you're buying is safe because it's been treated and inspected for harmful bacteria? Think again. Evidence suggests the increase in chemicals used on chicken only hides the existence of bacteria (like salmonella) rather than eliminating it. What does this mean? We're buying chicken laden with stronger chemicals at a high risk of getting salmonella or some other disease causing virus.

Eating locally sourced food has become a hot topic over the years. Do people understand the benefits of eating locally sourced food or is it more about cost? Also, can our local agriculture handle supply/demand? Award winning writer and founder of the children's magazine "Stone-Soup", William Rubel, addressed the supply/demand issue recently at the Farm to Table conference in New Orleans. In short, yes local agriculture can handle an increase in demand but it will require a shift in how society thinks and acts.
