The power of two crowned indie developer darlings have joined together to form one team, set to bring the Amnesia franchise into a new era.
Speaking exclusively with Joystiq, Frictional Games and Dear Esther's thechineseroom have revealed their latest project, Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs.
Developed by thechineseroom and produced by Frictional Games, Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs is planned for a debut on PC later this year. No firm date has been set, but internally the two studios hope to launch before Halloween. A recent alternate reality game has been teasing the the next Amnesia's reveal, sending fans into a frenzy.
"It's not a direct sequel, in terms of it doesn't follow on from the story of Amnesia. It doesn't involve the same characters," Dear Esther writer Dan Pinchbeck told me. Instead, Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs will be set in the same "alternate history and set in the same universe." In short, the game will look to scare your pants off.

There are some films out there being made for less than the Transformers catering budget. And some of them are pretty interesting. One such is Fare, a new thriller being made by director PJ Harling. 
I was browsing one of my private torrent sites today when I came across this torrent called “Nintendo VS SEGA EP” from the Remix Artist Collective or RAC. The album features four tracks consisting of classic Nintendo remixes. All your favorites are here: Link, Mario and Sonic. It’s pretty decent dance music and would go over well at the Maker Faire I’d imagine. Or Crobar Miami. Whichever is up your alley. 
The folks at DinahMoe production house have created a couple of whimsical music games that you should definitely mess around with. The first is Plink, a multiplayer toy where players can hop into rooms and experiment with different sounds. 
The Book of Watermarks is an adventure game released in Japan, and only in Japan, in 1999. Rare for a Japanese adventure game, it featured full-motion video acting and 3D visuals.

If signed, he'll join the previously announced Janssen, Bill Skarsgard, Landon Liboiron, Freya Tingley, and Penelope Mitchell.

There are plenty of horror-themed video games out there, but not many can claim to be a turn-based haunted house. Enter Haunts: The Manse Macabre, the first game from Mob Rules Games, a studio founded by Cryptic Studios vets. Voted by fans to be the studio's first project, Haunts has one team investigating a haunted mansion, while the other team tries to put an end to those who would invade their home. 
"Fan art is often the viewer's reaction to the show projected onto the character". Not a bad summary, that. 
Adam Yauch, one-third of the pioneering hip-hop group the Beastie Boys, has died at the age of 48, Rolling Stone has learned. Yauch, also known as MCA, had been in treatment for cancer since 2009. The rapper was diagnosed in 2009 after discovering a tumor in his salivary gland.
Yauch sat out the Beastie Boys' induction to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in April, and his treatments delayed the release of the group's most recent album, Hot Sauce Committee, Pt. 2. The Beastie Boys had not performed live since the summer of 2009, and Yauch's illness prevented the group from appearing in music videos for Hot Sauce Committee, Pt. 2.
Yauch co-founded the Beastie Boys with Mike "Mike D" Diamond and Adam "Ad-Rock" Horowitz in 1979. The band started off as a hardcore punk group, but soon began experimenting with hip-hop. The band broke big with their first proper album, Licensed to Ill, in 1986, and further albums Paul's Boutique, Check Your Head and Ill Communication cemented the band as a true superstar act.
In addition to his career with the Beastie Boys, Yauch was heavily involved in the movement to free Tibet and co-organized the Tibetan Freedom Concerts of the late Nineties. In 2002, he launched the film production company Oscilloscope Laboratories. 
How did the controversial full motion video game get made in the first place? Years before the Sega CD system it became synonymous with was released, a group of developers tried to change video games into something new. 
Before multimedia CD-ROM games flourished, the VCR added unprecedented interactivity to board games. 
Ni No Kuni, a collaboration between RPG powerhouse Level-5 and animation wizards Studio Ghibli, is not only one of the prettiest video games I've ever seen, but also one of the more enjoyable, at least on the PS3. It's very sad news, then, that the game's Western release has been delayed. 
During its run on HBO from 1995-1998, Mr. Show not only pumped out countless hilarious sketches (see "Titannica" or "The Story of Everest"), but it also threaded each episode together stream-of-consciousness style, coasting from bit to bit via loopy tangents, transitions, and non sequitur cutaways that solved the issue of ending sketches by tying them together thematically.
