If humans evolved from apes, why do apes still exist?

If humans evolved from apes, why do apes still exist? | Share Some Love Today | Scoop.it

The fundamental issue with this question is that there is an assumption that humans evolved from apes - but this is not the case. The simple answer is that humans did not evolve from apes: both apes, humans, and other primates evolved from a common ancestor. The common ancestor was probably more similar to apes than humans in terms of appearance. It is estimated that this lineage branched apart 8 million years ago - one branch leading to homonids (human-like), and the other branch leading to apes. This estimate varies - some arguing the split was as close as 5 million years ago, others that it was as distant as 20 million years ago.

Happy Birthday, W.E.B. DuBois!

Happy Birthday, W.E.B. DuBois! | Share Some Love Today | Scoop.it

"It is a peculiar sensation, this double-consciousness, this sense of always looking at one’s self through the eyes of others, of measuring one’s soul by the tape of a world that looks on in amused contempt and pity. One ever feels his two-ness,—an American, a Negro; two souls, two thoughts, two unreconciled strivings; two warring ideals in one dark body, whose dogged strength alone keeps it from being torn asunder."

Stonehenge was based on a 'magical' auditory illusion

Stonehenge was based on a 'magical' auditory illusion | Share Some Love Today | Scoop.it

The idea of a couple of pipers standing in the middle of a field while maidens dance around them is kinda compelling - but then to have someone start mapping out where the audio signals cancel themselves out and decide to then replicate the audio signal in Stone...well - that might be a bit of s stretch...

The layout of Stonehenge matches the spacing of loud and quiet sounds created by acoustic interference, new theory claims...
