Jazz Articles: Jack DeJohnette: Relishing the Here & Now - By Geoffrey Himes — Jazz Articles

Jazz Articles: Jack DeJohnette: Relishing the Here & Now - By Geoffrey Himes — Jazz Articles | Share Some Love Today | Scoop.it

Geoffrey Himes

"Because they honor an artist’s entire career, lifetime achievement awards can be tricky. They’re especially gratifying, for they imply that you had more than one or two peak moments, and sustained excellence over a long period. But they also come with the unspoken implication that maybe your career is over, or at least winding down.

One could tell that Jack DeJohnette was genuinely pleased to be named a 2012 National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Master, just such a lifetime achievement award. Five days before the ceremony, the 69-year-old drummer sat in the New York offices of his new label, eOne, and beamed with both satisfaction and astonishment when the award was mentioned. But he was also quick to emphasize his current projects: his new album and his young road band....

Google’s Art Project Grows Larger With 151 Museums Online Across 40 Countries

Google’s Art Project Grows Larger With 151 Museums Online Across 40 Countries | Share Some Love Today | Scoop.it

Google has announced that Google Art Project  - http://bit.ly/HcWigt , where art lovers, students and armchair travellers can explore the visually creative world, has seen a major expansion.

Now culture fans will be able to explore sculpture, street art and photographs from 151 Museums - http://bit.ly/HIC3SX in 40 Countries  -  http://bit.ly/HICzAb.

A deeper appreciation

Using completely new tools, called Explore and Discover, you can find artworks by period, artist or type of artwork, displaying works from different museums around the world.

Google+ and Hangouts are integrated on the site, so that users can create personal galleries and an enhanced ‘My Gallery’ feature allows visitors to select any of the 30,000 artworks—along with favourite details to build a very personalised experience.

Up close and personal

The Google Art Project now has 46 artworks available with “gigapixel” photo capturing technology, photographed in extraordinary detail using super high resolution.

Though purists will still want to seek out the atmosphere and smells of a location in which to enjoy their art experience, the Art Project is simple-to-use and fascinating to explore, not just for the works themselves, but also the unique way in which they have been presented.

Superb!

Why Meditate?

Why Meditate? | Share Some Love Today | Scoop.it

French monk (and former scientist in cell genetics) Matthieu Ricard speaks about science, meditation, and his title as 'the happiest man in the world.'

"By activating some areas of the brain, you could possibly generate a sensation of intense pleasure for a while, but that’s not going to last forever. That’s definitely not happiness. It is just a temporary gimmick. Genuine happiness is a state related to wisdom, to being attuned to reality, and to freedom from mental toxins (hatred, craving, and the like). Pleasure by itself has no reason to engender freedom from ignorance, dualistic clinging, and distortion of reality (true causes of suffering). There is nothing wrong with pleasure in itself, but it does not have much to do with happiness."

True, very true. Indian Doctrines says one to go beyond body, mind and soul (incarnated) and be the REAL SELF. As one progresses i this path, one experiences constant bliss and deep peace throughout the day. By meditating, one can be neutral and free from any bondage.

Meditation Is

Being At Peace With What Is

And

Transcending What IS

Why Do I Need QwikR?

The internet is huge. You aren't. How can you let your friends and colleagues find you, in one place, with all your social information organized and easy to share? Well, before QwikR.me, you couldn't. You would need a business card the size of a notebook. Now all you need is one tiny little code.

Isn't technology great? One Code. One Scan. Endless possibilities.

MAKE THE CONNECTION

"And suddenly, I looked at the bull. He had this innocence that all animals have in their eyes, and he looked at me with this pleading. It was like a cry for justice, deep down inside of me. I describe it as being like ...a prayer - because if one confesses, it is hoped, that one is forgiven. I felt like the worst shit on earth."

This photo shows the collapse of Torrero Alvaro Munera, as he realized in the middle of the his last fight... the injustice to the animal. From that day forward he became an opponent of bullfights.
