10 Female Revolutionaries That You Probably Didn't Learn About In History class

10 Female Revolutionaries That You Probably Didn't Learn About In History class | Share Some Love Today | Scoop.it

We all know male revolutionaries like Che Guevara, but history often tends to gloss over the contributions of female revolutionaries that have sacrificed their time, efforts, and lives to work towards burgeoning systems and ideologies. Despite misconceptions, there are tons of women that have participated in revolutions throughout history, with many of them playing crucial roles. They may come from different points on the political spectrum, with some armed with weapons and some armed with nothing but a pen, but all fought hard for something that they believed in.

Let’s take a look at 10 of these female revolutionaries from all over the world that you probably won’t ever see plastered across a college student’s T-shirt.

New Power Tools for Social Media Junkies - SiteProNews

New Power Tools for Social Media Junkies - SiteProNews | Share Some Love Today | Scoop.it

Social media has a bevy of naysayers, with much to complain about. Some gripe it’s too impersonal, too shallow, and too much of a time waster. The business side of the non-believers have always touted it’s not quantifiable, and doesn’t positively impact anyone’s bottom line.
Sure, there’s some truth to the flaws in social media. Yet the conglomeration of social networks now account for over 28 percent of online usage; that’s exponentially powerful. Marketers have proven that crafty social media campaigns can change a company’s reach and profits over night. Social is an undeniable force.
Because of its prevalence, there’s no lack of tools, apps, and software to help elevate your reach and simplify the process. Sites like HootSuite, which helps automate your blasts and coordinate them throughout all the major networks, have become social must-haves. But there’s a bundle of new players in the space that can help turn your social efforts from lackluster to profit powerhouses. Here are a few that deserve a closer look.

Beth Dichter's curator insight, August 16, 5:18 PM

If you work with younger students and you have access to digital devices that access the Internet head over to National Geographic Young Explorer. You will find issues from October 2009 through April 2014. The great thing about these magazines is that the student may have the text read to them, and each word is highlighted as it is read. The site also states that it continues to add new magazines during the school year, so more should be coming soon.

Along with the Listen and Read feature, there are two Teacher Guides for each issue that you may print out. One guide is for Kindergarten and the other is for first grade. The guides include lesson plans, discussion questions, ready-to-copy worksheets and more." There is also a projectable issue available that you may use to present the information to your class as a whole.

This is a great resource to introduce students to science and to informational text (as required by Common Core). For teachers of young students who may not have a science background this website will provide you with a wealth of resources. Have fun sharing this with students and their families.

Incredible Ikea Billboard Tips an Apartment Sideways to Become a Rock-Climbing Wall

Incredible Ikea Billboard Tips an Apartment Sideways to Become a Rock-Climbing Wall | Share Some Love Today | Scoop.it

Psst, maybe we shouldn't take this apartment—the floor seems kind of slanted.

Ikea promoted the opening of its 30th store in France by building an apartment into a vertical rock-climbing wall. Marketing shop Ubi Bene helped devise the impressive outdoor installation in the city of Clermont-Ferrand.

The wall is 9 meters high by 10 meters wide and fitted with steps and grips, allowing the public to navigate among stylish beds, cabinets, tables, chairs, sofas and accessories. (Using harnesses and with safety personnel on hand, naturally.)

The Swedish retailer's been in fine creative form with its marketing lately. Other notable efforts include lighting a forest with LED lamps to celebrate energy efficient bulbs, pitching its 2015 catalog as "cutting-edge technology" and teaming with Airbnb to give folks a chance to spend a night in one of its stores....

The Forest Man of Majuli Island | KarmaTube | Share Some Love Today | Scoop.it
It has been said that the single most powerful thing one can do to combat climate change and promote peace is to plant a tree. Jadev Payeng has been doing just that since the 1970's on the once-barren sandbar on the banks of the Brahmaputra River in Assam, India. Over 40 years later, the forest he's planted is now larger than New York City's Central Park and is home to several thousand varieties of trees as well as an amazing diversity of wildlife, including rhino, elephants, and even tigers.
