The visual expression in film of an abstract thought or idea is often a difficult process when one seeks to illustrate something for others when it has only been seen within ones own mind. This is especially true if one desires to express the vision of a psychadelic experience.

Visionary artist joins The Path of the Sun team.  His visdonary art will be featured in a segment of the film describing and illustrating the hallucinatory experience of ayahuasca.

Seti Gershberg's insight:

The Inca followed both solar and lunar cycles throughout the year. However, the cycle of the moon was of primary importance for both agricultural activities and the timing of festivals, which reflected in many cases celebrations surrounding animal husbandry, sowing seeds and harvesting of crops. Important festivals such as Qoyllor Riti (Resplendent Snow or Snow Star), perhaps the most important festival given its significance and meaning, are still celebrated on the full Moon.

Shamanism and the City: Psychedelic Spiritual Tourism Comes Home - Culture - GOOD | Shamanism in the 21st Century | Scoop.it

As word of its therapeutic properties has spread, more and more religious questers have made pilgrimages to see well-known shamans in the Amazon. An industry has grown up around its use, mostly in Peru, where the city of Iquitos has become a kind of Times Square for ayahuasca tourism. It’s been written about everywhere from the London Times and National Geographic to The Atlantic.

On Magic, Shamanism, and Listening: The Collective Unconscious of C.G. Jung

On Magic, Shamanism, and Listening: The Collective Unconscious of C.G. Jung | Shamanism in the 21st Century | Scoop.it

“If we open our eyes, if we open our minds, if we open our hearts, will find that this world is a magical place. It is magical not because it tricks us or changes unexpectedly into something else, but because it can be so vividly and brilliantly.”--Chogyam Trungpa

When I was a child, I longed for magic: actively, forcefully, wistfully. I spent thousands of hours reading books about witches and wizards and fairies and everyday objects endowed with supernatural powers, I read about kids who time-traveled or fell into other dimensions or discovered secret portals to other lives. I always wanted to be one of those characters from the story, happening on magic that would transport me from my problems, my boredom, my malaise (French translation: being poorly-at-ease) with life. As I grew older, I stopped believing...

Our ancestors had far more contact with magic. They lived life closer to nature, a force larger than life. They saw themselves as an intrinsic part of a pattern that happened around them and to them and in them and through them, an ongoing dialogue with equals. Rather than placing themselves above the objects we see as inanimate, everything they saw and experienced in the physical world was a endowed with the life force... (Click title to read full post)

Kickstarter launched for The Path of the Sun

A documentary about shamanism, ancient knowledge and sacred plants from the high Andes and Amazon.

Just in time for the holiday season the Kickstarter campaign for the Path of the Sun has launched. If you are not familiar, Kickstarter is a crowd fundingplatform that has helped raise over $450 million dollars for creative projects. It's a really cool partnership program where creative projects get funded and the people who provide funds get rewarded. And, the way the system works there are multiple reward levels so anyone can choose a funding level that is comfortable for their wallet. The reward levels for The Path of The Sun start at $10 and include screen savers, photography, CD's, DVD's, photobooks, digital prints. And at the highest reward levels there are despachos (offerings to mother earth), divinations and private audiences with Q'eros shaman via Skype and there is even a reward that includes a trip to Peru to meet and live with the shaman that are the subject of the film.

Seti Gershberg's insight:

From the Conference website:

In the last decade, the interest and use of ayahuasca has expanded exponentially. This phenomenon has both activated the advancement of scientific research into its effects, risks and therapeutic potential, as well as serious legal, ethical and sustainability challenges.

The World Ayahuasca Conference 2014, organized by the ICEERS Foundation, aims to be a multidisciplinary event that brings together leading scientists, legal experts, practitioners. environmentalists and other experts involved in the ayahuasca field, facilitating the interchange of experience and knowledge, and the birth of new synergies and collaborations through the formal presentations and round tables, workshops and debates, as well as the informal events of the conference.

World Heritage Centre - Main Andean Road - Qhapaq Ñan

World Heritage Centre - Main Andean Road - Qhapaq Ñan | Shamanism in the 21st Century | Scoop.it

Qhapaq Ñan otherwise known as the Main Andean Road, was the backbone of the Inca Empire’s political and economic power. The whole network of roads over 23,000 km in length connected various production, administrative and ceremonial centers constructed over more than 2,000 years of pre-Inca Andean culture.

The Incas of Cuzco achieved this unique infrastructure with a unitary character in less than a century, making it functionally coherent and establishing additional centers for commerce, exchange, production and worship, adapting production sectors to topography and climate, in each ecological area to be found along the Road. The Road also expressed these peoples’ harmonious relation with and their adaptation to the complex Andean natural setting. Today, the cultural landscapes of Qhapaq Ñan form an exceptional backdrop on which living Andean cultures continue to convey a universal message: the human ability to turn one of the harshest geographical contexts of the American continent into an environment for life.
