Brighton and Hove Archaeological Society are a very active group fieldwork wise, with an insanely long digging season and a lovely supportive approach to new diggers.
Martin Roseveare's insight:

The author's comment about magnetometry results on chalk being 'predictably rubbish' is unfortunately itself rubbish. It depends on a host of factors and many spectacular surveys have been acheived over chalk bedrock.

Search for King Harold's remains in Waltham Abbey to begin - Medieval Archives

Search for King Harold's remains in Waltham Abbey to begin - Medieval Archives | Shallow Geophysics | Scoop.it
The search for King Harold's remains will begin next week on the anniversary of his apparent death.
Martin Roseveare's insight:

I'm really not convinced this is a sensible use of geophysics; mapping graves in burial grounds is always difficult and finding a particular one is fraught with problems unless looking for something definite like a coffin or vault. In any case later burials will most certainly have obliterated any evidence of Harold's.
