Gender differences amongst sex workers online

Gender differences amongst sex workers online | Sex Work | Scoop.it
Two weeks ago the UK’s Office of National Statistics (ONS) announced that
the UK economy had grown by 0.9% in the second quarter of 2014. This growth
was partly due to the decision to include prostitution in gross domestic
product (GDP) for the first time ever.

The ONS estimate that Britain’s 60,879 prostitutes contribute £5.314bn
(0.4% GDP) to the UK economy.  But, this figure completely ignores male
prostitution.  In a previous post we used data from AdultWork, a popular

Review Site For Phone Sex Operators

Review Site For Phone Sex Operators | Sex Work | Scoop.it

Tom Cat’s Phone Sex Reviews is not a phone sex directory or topsite, where placement or “ranking” is based on how much a PSO pays or how many “hits” a PSO sends to the site. It is not a bunch of spammy listings or fake reviews. It is a real review site where each and everyphone sex operator listed has actually been reviewed by an experienced phone sex caller.

There’s no “pay to play” schemes, no cheating to get to the top of the list or to get better ratings, no spam or scams for PSOs or callers. While I will be using some affiliate links (primarily for additional information on trends, popularity, and client interests), this review site isn’t about money; it’s all about the phone sex & the phone sex girls. It’s all about callers being able to find quality phone sex operators — and it’s a chance for quality PSOs to get some recognition without having to pay for it.

Mainstream Advertising On Porn Websites

Mainstream Advertising On Porn Websites | Sex Work | Scoop.it

It has long been a mystery to me why more mainstream products that are sold to porn-watching adults are afraid to advertise on porn websites. Porn advertising is dirt cheap, and so you’d think that any brand that’s not afraid to admit its customers also like porn would be all over the porn website world with huge ad campaigns. Whiskey and cigarette advertisers used to buy endless full-page ads in PlayBoy and Hustler back in the day; why don’t they now?

Thus I was both heartened and pleased to see that one of the online food-delivery startups has not only taken to porn site advertising, they’ve blogged in detail about why they did it and how well it worked:

Something many of us have long advised.

I've always thought that if you're looking at adult content, you won't be alarmed by mainstream companies being there; conversely, if you aren't at adult sites, you won't know about it to be bothered.

If your product or services fits the demographic, why not?

Too much Va Va Voom? Renault advert featuring close-ups of burlesque dancers is banned by watchdog because it 'treats women like sexual objects'

Too much Va Va Voom? Renault advert featuring close-ups of burlesque dancers is banned by watchdog because it 'treats women like sexual objects' | Sex Work | Scoop.it

A car advert featuring scantily-clad  burlesque dancers has been banned after watchdogs branded it sexist.

They were concerned that it featured ‘a  number of shots of the women’s breasts and bottoms, in which their heads were  obscured’.

The way the women had been presented in the  Renault Clio advert ‘invited viewers to see them as sexual objects’, it was  ruled.

Brazil Will No Longer Run These 'Happy Being a Prostitute' Ads

Brazil Will No Longer Run These 'Happy Being a Prostitute' Ads | Sex Work | Scoop.it

Like most things in Brazil, prostitution is legal.

Sex work even has its own holiday — June 2nd was International Day of the Prostitute. To raise awareness about safe prostitution and to work against the stigma that surrounds the profession, Brazil recently launched an online campaign called "I'm happy being a prostitute." And then they quickly canceled it.

This is what happens with most flyers and promotional pieces of paper that are handed out on the streets, put on windsheilds, etc. The fact that it's about selling sex makes me take pause...This appears to be one case where erotic images of women involved in sex work are actually adding value and humanizing the advertisements. Food for thought.

Sex Sells | Keep Your Brand Honest

Sex Sells | Keep Your Brand Honest | Sex Work | Scoop.it

Sex appeal is used in advertising all over the world to attract target audiences. Advertisers use sexually oriented appeals as a communication to draw attention to their messages. Sexuality in advertising is becoming more explicit as researchers have claimed that sexual stimulus causes the consumers perception to be more focused on the ad, rather than the brand.

Years pass, but there is no doubt that sex continues to sell
Through campaigns, more or less implicit, a brand can sell more quickly a message through sex. And in any business you are entered, sex can be an element to take into account if you want faster growth.
