What to do if you are visited or stopped by the police. First, and most important, in an encounter with the police:

  • DO NOT physically resist or threaten the officer(s) in any way.
  • DO NOT try to leave until an officer tells you that you are free to go.
  • DO NOT give the officer any information about any of your activities.
  • DO NOT consent to any search.

After a few months of running the phone sex review site, some things have become quite clear: some phone sex operators don’t know how to properly handle less than glowing reviews.

Just as you can make the most of your positive reviews, you can make a real mess out of less than favorable reviews. In fact, you can make things even worse.

Eric Barry, Comedian, Discusses Life As A Male Escort On HuffPost Live | Sex Work | Scoop.it

Comedian Eric Barry stopped by HuffPost Live today to discuss his past work as a male escort and the stigma people who have engaged in sex work experience throughout the course of their lives.

“I don’t regret [being a sex worker] because I ultimately want to live in a world where being a sex worker or being a slut doesn’t have the stigma it does today -- and that people realize that you can enjoy sex and perhaps even make a living doing it and still be educated,” he said.

Paying To Play: Interview With A John

Paying To Play: Interview With A John | Sex Work | Scoop.it

Still, there’s something thrilling to going from feeling utterly alone and unlovable to realizing that all these women with all these pictures in all these ads, you can be with any one of them, at least for one hour, and pretend. And all you need is money. It’s not a replacement for love— it pales in comparison to a real loving relationship with somebody who you are sexually compatible with, but it sure as fuck beats being alone and feeling untouchable.

Gracie Passette's insight:

Utterly worthy of the time to read as this interview sounds like so many clients. (Lots of sex history from the 1970s too.)

Sex probe: Revealing the bare facts of industry

Sex probe: Revealing the bare facts of industry | Sex Work | Scoop.it

The local sex industry has almost doubled in the past 20 years and much of it occurs between the sheets in motel rooms across the New England North West.

Sex workers steer clear of hustling work off the street because in order for them to make money in country areas, they must be discreet.

The claims might startle some but it’s just some of the cold, hard evidence that has landed in front of UNE expert Professor John Scott, who’s been researching the industry for almost 20 years.

LinkedIn apparently has a 'prostitution problem'

LinkedIn apparently has a 'prostitution problem' | Sex Work | Scoop.it

I always thought that Facebook was the social network for "fun stuff," while LinkedIn was the social network for "work stuff." I guess I need to change my definition of "work stuff." LinkedIn has just singled out escorts as specifically unwelcome on their platform, and changed their terms of service to banish users promoting sex in exchange for money.

To all you sex workers out there (I'm told you prefer the term "sex worker"!), be aware that this is not an overall ban on promotion of adult services on the LinkedIn platform. You can still promote yourself as a porn star or fetish model on LinkedIn, and it would still be legal and compliant with the updated LinkedIn terms of service. But you can no longer promote "escort services or prostitution" on your LinkedIn profile.

LinkedIn updated their terms of service to ban escort services on Monday. (You have to scroll two-thirds of the way down the page to get to the juicy part). In Section 10 of the terms, entitled LinkedIn "DOs" and “DON’Ts," the policy has been revised to state that LinkedIn users cannot "upload, post, email, InMail, transmit or otherwise make available or initiate any content that...promotes escort services or prostitution" -- "[e]ven if it is legal where you are located."

There's the rub. Sex work and escort services are legal in several countries -- and some parts of the United States, if I'm to believe the little cards that cab drivers hand me whenever I'm in Las Vegas.

I am a male escort

I am a male escort | Sex Work | Scoop.it

Jamie Close opens the door in St Kilda, Melbourne, as if he were greeting a client, giving me a warm handshake and a kiss on the cheek. He's friendly, not sleazy, and is smartly dressed in a suit.

He's not wearing a tie; two necklaces hang around his neck instead, adorned with crystals, "to ward off negative energy".

It makes sense. The 42-year-old former stripper and ex-member of male erotic dance troupe the Chippendales has long been interested in holistic therapies and esoteric practices.

His latest project, as a male escort, is for a business with the slogan: 'Intimate male companions for the woman who knows what she wants'.

"Listening" and "communicating" are essential elements of the service, says Jamie, which is less wham-bam-thankyou ma'am and more dinner, dancing, talking - the whole package.

"It's not just, like, come to room 216 and let's get it on," he says.

But ladies who'd rather get straight down to business will find their needs met too. Jamie's practised tantric sex for years and runs workshops on how to achieve the full body orgasm.

The untapped wisdom of sex workers

The untapped wisdom of sex workers | Sex Work | Scoop.it

Leave it to the British tabloid The Sun, which in the past has brought us such considered coverage as "FREDDIE STARR ATE MY HAMSTER", to approach the topics of sex work and relationship advice with all the subtlety of a neon-painted brick: last month they ran a piece with the screaming headline, "I had sex with 1,000 men as £700-a-time hooker ... now I'm an infidelity counsellor."

Take a moment to get the sighs out of your system and it turns out the piece contains fairly straightforward - and even considerate - advice from former sex worker Rebecca Dakin, such as, "I just want to help people stay in relationships. My knowledge comes from experience. When I was an escort about 60 per cent of my clients were married, and that gives me a pretty unique insight into how men work and what they want."

That didn't stop website Salon from weeping and wailing about the piece, with Tracy Clark Florey unloading on the topic, playing into the tired notion of "bad sex workers versus good sex workers" by saying, of another piece by Kitty Stryker, "Her advice boils down to this: talk with your partner.

Rather than giving out grudging blow jobs like doggie treats, communicate openly, honestly and without judgment about your mutual needs and desires. What a concept."

But boiling the particular sort of relationship advice espoused by Dakin down to "have more sex with your husband", it is certainly not exclusive to "racy" editorial; Bettina Arndt has been doling out similar rhetoric for years. So why characterise it as specific to sex work?

What sets The Sun editorial and the Salon piece apart is that The Sun actually allowed a sex worker to speak for herself, and in an era where much of the dialogue about sex work is dominated by non-sex workers, that's becoming increasingly rare.

Advice from a Male Escort

Advice from a Male Escort | Sex Work | Scoop.it

An interview with Ash, a personal trainer and male escort featured on Showtime’s deliriously entertaining Gigolos...

Best quotes from Ash:

The beautiful thing of working in this industry, especially in America, is that it can be so many things. We’re contracted for our time, not necessarily our bodies. We’re not required to do anything sexual, ever. Once you understand the nature of your job, you can create a safe space for yourself, while also creating a wonderful experience for your client.

Sexually, the problem in our society is that we’ve grown up on porn. It’s all a projection in our minds of what sex is, and it’s all body parts. People don’t know how to connect with each other, and the most important thing about sex is exactly that connection. You have to create a safe enough environment with trust between two people so you can talk about what’s arousing to you, what feels good to you, and all your fantasies. Women have as many fantasies as guys do. Maybe more. It’s just creating a space where they feel they won’t be judged as a terrible whore, or that it’s completely safe to open up and share everything. Trust is a huge thing. By listening, you engage trust. When you have trust, you have intimacy and presence. When you have intimacy, you can have fun.

Teenagers 'selling sex'

Teenagers 'selling sex' | Sex Work | Scoop.it

A NEW non-governmental organisation has discovered that around 85 per cent of sexually active teens in the Bahamas are engaging in some kind of transactional sex.

Officials at the Bahamas Urban Youth Development Centre have also found that whatever the conventional wisdom on the matter, the majority of middle and high schoolers in the Bahamas are not sexually active. But of those who are, the majority are involved in risky behaviour.

“Say if we have a group of 30 students 25-30 per cent are sexually active and of those, 85 per cent are involved in some type of transactional sex,”  president and CEO at Bahamas Urban Youth Development Centre Prodesta Moore told The Tribune yesterday.

Transactional sex relationships are created when gifts, money or services are given in exchange for sex. It differs from prostitution in the sense that only a portion of the needs of the person providing the sex are met through the practice.

Ms Moore said that young Bahamian women can often create for themselves a network of “regulars” – several men who they can count on to fulfil a number of their needs, ranging anywhere from school supplies, exam fees or lunch money.

“Many young people put themselves through high school and college in this way. They see it as a means of taking care of themselves, that’s the culture. They feel that if a man wants to deal with them he has to pay in some way and they are not prostituting themselves by doing this,” Ms Moore said.

But the familiarity between the young women and the persons they sleep with creates a worrying situation which places teens in the Bahamas as one of the groups most at risk for contracting HIV/AIDS.

I want to hire a sex worker to help my mentally ill brother

I want to hire a sex worker to help my mentally ill brother | Sex Work | Scoop.it

So hire a sex worker for your brother, SIS, if you think it will help—even if it just eliminates an excuse that’s blocking his progress—and there’s no need to drive to Nevada. Siouxsie suggests you look for an “experienced” (read: somewhat older) escort with an online presence in your area. A sex worker who’s over 25 or 30 and maintains her own website—and has write-ups on escort review sites—is not just far less likely to be trafficked or exploited, she’s far more likely to be experienced and patient. She may even have worked with men like your brother before.
