"My Wife Doesn't Understand Me" & The Other Little White Lies Of Phone Sex

"My Wife Doesn't Understand Me" & The Other Little White Lies Of Phone Sex | Sex Work | Scoop.it

His wife isn’t necessarily a bitch. Or ill. Or dead. Or whatever he says. Hell, he may not ever have been married. Maybe it’s just easier for him to play the role of a married man on the phone. Maybe he feels it further masks his identity. Maybe his fantasy taboo is enhanced by the naughty idea of cheating or being caught. Maybe he thinks you’ll be less judgmental of a man who “can’t get it that way at home” than you would be of a man who’s too uncomfortable to tell his lover what gets him off. Maybe he pretends to be married simply because he feels that would make him more sympathetic. Who knows? He says he’s married; he’s married. Just work with it.

I Before E, Except After BDSM: Lifestyle BDSM Vs Professional Domination

I Before E, Except After BDSM: Lifestyle BDSM Vs Professional Domination | Sex Work | Scoop.it

This is especially true when it comes to relationships ~ including those of professional variety, i.e. those involving the paid services of sex workers. After all, other than the golden rules of respect and consent, there are not as many hard and fast “rules” or “facts” when it comes to the ins and outs of human interaction as there are to the more physical ins and outs of screwing. With relationships, it’s even more like “I before E, except after C”. …And with D/s, it can get even weirder. (That’s a play on the spelling rule, not a judgement!) Be that as it may, I’ll try to clarify some of the rules of BDSM engagements based on the articles I recently discovered.

Sex (Work) In the Classroom: How Academia Can Support the Sex Worker Rights Movement

Sex (Work) In the Classroom: How Academia Can Support the Sex Worker Rights Movement | Sex Work | Scoop.it

Over the last several years, the world’s oldest profession has become academia’s latest hot topic. As events, books and other media continue to increase the visibility of the sex trade, class time, and sometimes entire curricula, have sprung up to address its various (and varied) topics. Higher education and those who work within it play a number of different roles, impacting the lives of those in the sex trade both directly and indirectly.

Gracie Passette's insight:

Tips for academics ~ and others, really.

[Entire Paper] MALE CLIENTS OF #SEXWORKERS: A CRIMINOLOGICAL PERSPECTIVE #SexWork | Sex Work | Scoop.it

In an article entitled “Peter MacKay promises new prostitution bill before summer,” Justice Minister Peter MacKay is quoted as saying, “We know there is tremendous violence and vulnerability associated with prostitution. Prostitutes are predominantly victims” (Crawford, 2014, para. 2). Following this quote there is no citation to substantiate MacKay’s claim that the majority of prostitutes are victims or that prostitution is inherently violent.

Why the 'End Demand' Approach to Sex Work Doesn't Work | Sex Work | Scoop.it
"End demand" campaigns, like the one suggested in a recent RH Reality Check commentary, are based on the false characterization of clients of sex workers as rapists, and perpetuated by the prostitution-as-violence camp. This is nothing but misogyny, pure and simple.

A woman claims in court that her former business partner conned her out of rights to advances for the "Fifty Shades of Grey" trilogy.

Jennifer Lynn Pedroza and Christa Beebe sued Amanda M. Hayward and TWCS Operations Pty. Ltd. in Tarrant County Court.

"This is a case about greed and self-dealing by Amanda Hayward in conning her business partner Jenny Pedroza out of her rightful partnership interest in advances and royalties flowing from the New York Times best-selling 'Fifty Shades of Grey' trilogy and in fraudulently inducting both plaintiffs into entering into contracts with a sham entity," the 48-page lawsuit begins.

The Erotica Queen

The Erotica Queen | Sex Work | Scoop.it

Sex sells. No doubt. But writing on sex and sexuality is not easy, especially when one has to clarify innumerable times that she is not selling porn but erotica. "The difference between erotica and porn is the line that separates sex from sensuality. It is extremely unfortunate erotica is considered same as porn," says Sreemoyee Piu Kundu, writer of Sita's Curse which in her own words is India's first feminist erotica. "It has been the greatest challenge – to resurrect an age-old Indian cultural tradition, while also trying to adapt the genre to the changing mind and body of a modern Indian protagonist," she says.

Gracie Passette's insight:

Some hair-splitting to denounce "porn", but worthy of a read ~ esp for the Indian cultural POV & points about sex ed.

Decriminalizing Prostitution | Criminal Law

Decriminalizing Prostitution | Criminal Law | Sex Work | Scoop.it

Prostitution is illegal in 49 of the 50 states, Nevada being the sole exception. But, some people believe that paid sex is so entrenched in our society that the focus should not be prosecuting it, but rather keeping it clean and safe. Others argue that it’s impossible to strip prostitution of exploitation, harassment, and violence, and that outright prohibition is the only tenable approach.

Is Prostitution Any of the Government’s Business?

In 2003, the Supreme Court acknowledged an adult's right to engage in private, consensual sex, by ruling that adults have a constitutional right to engage in private, homosexual conduct if they so choose. (Lawrence v. Texas, 539 U.S. 558 (2003).)  Although the Supreme Court was careful to state that its ruling didn’t apply to prostitution, some argue that this ruling should be extended—that private, consensual sexual conduct should be allowed even where money changes hands.

Peter MacKay's proposed new law could drive sex workers back underground

Peter MacKay's proposed new law could drive sex workers back underground | Sex Work | Scoop.it

Justice Minister Peter MacKay thinks that sex work is inherently dehumanizing.

Those who do such work, the Minister says, are victims to be helped, not criminals.

Nonetheless, in the new, proposed sex work legislation the Minister tabled in the House on Wednesday he would render illegal at least some of what those "victims" do.

For instance, the proposed legislation makes it against the law to advertize sexual services.

Such a prohibition, sex workers and their advocates say, would make it much more difficult for prostitutes to ply their trade in safe, indoors places.
