Zurich regulates sex industry

Zurich introduces a raft of measures next year to try to regulate the city’s sex industry which officials admit has got out of control. Brothels and sex workers will require permits and street prostitution is being moved to three designated areas to try to make it safer and more discreet. At a press conference in Zurich on Monday, city officials outlined their plans again and said the new booths or sex boxes to accommodate prostitutes and their customers will open in August.

“We want to regulate prostitution because until now it was the law of the jungle….” Michael Herzig works for the city’s social welfare department. “So it was the pimps who decided the prices for instance. We want to as much as possible the city to regulate prostitution, the city to define what we have in Zurich and what not but we are trying to go to a situation which is better for the prostitutes themselves, for their health and security and also for the population which lives in Zurich.

New laws on prostitution come into force in Zurich in January. While the legal age for prostitution in Switzerland as a whole remains 16 for now, sex workers in Zurich will have to be at least 18 years old. But the most noticeable difference will come in August when new sex boxes open in Altstetten outside the city centre and street prostitution will be forbidden along the Sihlquai embankment.

“The big difference is that until now prostitution is in a public space. Now we are going to change this, transfer it from the street, from a public to a private space to an old industrial area which belongs to the city, that give us the possibility to define the rules of prostitution in this space.”

In terms of numbers, far fewer prostitutes work the streets than in brothels and agencies but their problem has created a problem and an image problem which Zurich is keen to tackle. City Councillor Martin Waser is responsible for social issues.

“Conditions have become intolerable in recent years,” he says. “It’s very difficult for the prostitutes because they are unprotected but we also have big problems with pedestrians, particularly groups of men who harass the women and make a lot of noise and we can avoid all these problems in the approved space.”

Besides the drive in facilities at Altstetten, street prostitutes will be allowed to ply their trade in two other specific zones – centrally located Niederdorf, the city’s pedestrian nightlife area and at drive-by Brunau. Clients who meet street prostitutes in non-approved areas face fines of 450 francs.

The switchover is set to take place in August from one day to the next and city councillor Daniel Leupi, responsible for police issues is under no illusions.

“The big challenge will be to move the strip from the actual place at the Sihlquai to the Strichplatz we call it at one go with all the information to the sex workers. That will be a very difficult issue.”

It’s not only clients who will be paying for the new services. From January, brothels have to apply for licences. Criteria include fair working conditions, fair prices and a commitment to preventing violence. Basic cost 300 francs with additional inspection fees.

And street prostitutes will have to fork out 40 francs for their own licences subject to having a work permit, being registered with a health insurer and taking counselling sessions with the Flora Dora advisory service. In addition, every night that they ply their trade, they will need to buy a ticket from a machine at five francs a go.

Emmanuelle star dies at 60

Emmanuelle star dies at 60 | Sex Work | Scoop.it

KRISTEL, who formerly lived with Lovejoy star Ian McShane, scored fame with 70s soft porn Emmanuelle movies...

STAR of the ‘70s soft porn Emmanuelle movies Sylvia Kristel has died at the age of 60.

The Dutch-born actress passed away in her sleep last night after a ten-year battle with cancer.

Kristel starred in five Emmanuelle films between 1974 and 1993 and another six TV spin-offs.

The series of French-made erotic movies are famed for bringing soft-

core pornography to mainstream cinema.

She also became famous for her steamy nude scenes in another 40 films, starring in the lead roles in X-rated versions of Lady Chatterley’s Lover and World War One spy drama Mata Hari.

Kristel – a heavy smoker since the age of 11 – was also treated for lung cancer ten years ago and managed to make a partial recovery.

She lived with Lovejoy star Ian McShane in the 1980s in LA but split after four years and moved to St Tropez in France.

Her 2006 autobiography Undressing Emmanuelle told of a personal life blighted by battles with drugs and alcohol, as well as a series of destructive relationships with older men.

She branded her relationship with McShane as “awful”, adding: “He was witty and charming but we were too much alike.”

Kristel had recently been released from hospital in Amsterdam after suffering a massive heart failure in July.

She leaves one son who she had with Belgian author Hugo Claus, 27 years her senior.

Call Girl Culture: High-priced prostitution one of Hollywood’s dirty little secrets

Call Girl Culture: High-priced prostitution one of Hollywood’s dirty little secrets | Sex Work | Scoop.it
NEW YORK – Last week, TheDirty.com posted a story claiming supermodel and current star of “The Real Housewives of Miami,” Joanna Krupa, had been a high-priced escort who could make $10,000 a night. Krupa and her team immediately and vehemently denied the allegations, and threatened legal action. The story was removed from the site the next day.

Former Manhattan Madam Kristin Davis ran one the most successful high-priced escort services in New York, toting a client list with over 10,000 names until she was busted in 2008. She told FOX411 she did not recognize Krupa as one of the girls that worked for her over the years. But she did recognize her for another reason: Krupa was one of the models whose photos Davis cut and pasted from Maxim.com and others sites to lure customers.

“I used to steal her (Krupa’s) photos. I took her pictures off of Maxim,” Davis said. “Your turnover is really high, so you don’t invest in photos. I would match her up with a girl that looks like her.”

Davis, who served four months in prison and two-and-a-half years probation for promoting prostitution, also said high-priced hookers could bring in much more than the $10,000 rate reported by TheDirty.com.

“I would charge $3,000 an hour, four hours minimum usually, for a top model, with three calls a night. You do the math. It adds up,” Davis said. “The clients were head of industry, athletes, sport stars. You actually want to spend time with them. Girls actually enjoyed it. The mentality of the guy is very appreciative of the girl. The woman you see on the billboard in SoHo just walked through the door.”

It’s that kind of money that makes prostitution a lure for beautiful aspiring models and actresses waiting to get their big break in New York or Los Angeles. And Davis said that even for some already established models and actresses, the money can be too good to give up even once they are getting steady, high-paying legitimate jobs.

“A lot of my girls were top models … Victoria’s Secret, Ford Models,” Davis said. “Say Girl #1 got a L’Oreal commercial, after agencies and taxes, [her] $30,000 [fee] then turns into $20,000. These girls are not normal girls who shop at BeBe. Their lifestyle is outside of their means. That money lasts a month and a half. Some girls have cocaine habits, party a lot, and you’d be surprised, for some [$20,000 lasts] maybe a week.”

Davis said that former call girls have starred in Michael Kors and Gucci campaigns, to name a few high-profile gigs.

Tracy Quan, a former escort and author of “Diary of a Manhattan Call Girl,” now a Daily Beast writer, told FOX411: “I had friends [who were] actors, models, singers, aspiring directors and photographers; that whole world of entertainment, there is compatibility. They’re drawn to the escort world. There’s a sense of drama.”

Although Quan wrote a tell-all about her experiences, most escorts will never reveal their past involvement in prostitution. Davis said she has not and will never reveal names. “I used fake pictures to protect the girls on my website and never used real names. The moment they walked in the office we created a new name and that was how she was known from then on.”

President of Stars Model Management, Timmy Secor, said the ugly side of the beauty business leads some women into escort work.
“It’s the most brutal industry in the world. You’re not selling a car, a product; you’re selling yourself. No other business in the world is like this. It’s impossible to make real money. There are so many beautiful girls and so little jobs; so few people ever make a living at it.”

He added that impressionable model-hopefuls may be lured into the sex industry when their career stagnates. “It definitely happens. There are girls who go to the darker side of modeling; escort services. It happens. We don’t have anything like that here.”

Full Service: My Adventures in Hollywood and the Secret Sex Lives of the Stars

Full Service: My Adventures in Hollywood and the Secret Sex Lives of the Stars | Sex Work | Scoop.it

Newly discharged from the Marines after World War II, Scotty Bowers arrived in Hollywood in 1946. Young, charismatic, and strikingly handsome, he quickly caught the eye of many of the town’s stars and starlets. He began sleeping with some himself, and connecting others with his coterie of young, attractive, and sexually free-spirited friends. His own lovers included Edith Piaf, Spencer Tracy, Vivien Leigh, Cary Grant, and the abdicated King of England Edward VIII, and he arranged tricks or otherwise crossed paths with Tennessee Williams, Charles Laughton, Vincent Price, Katharine Hepburn, Rita Hayworth, Errol Flynn, Gloria Swanson, Noël Coward, Mae West, James Dean, Rock Hudson and J. Edgar Hoover, to name but a few.

Full Service is not only a fascinating chronicle of Hollywood’s sexual underground, but also exposes the hypocrisy of the major studios, who used actors to propagate a myth of a conformist, sexually innocent America knowing full well that their stars’ personal lives differed dramatically from this family-friendly mold. As revelation-filled as Hollywood Babylon, Full Service provides a lost chapter in the history of the sexual revolution and is a testament to a man who provided sex, support, and affection to countless people.
