#Pornocalypse Capital

But that’s not why I’m blogging about this article. Instead, I want to commend it for its summary of the financial challenges faced by innovators in sex tech. It’s as neat a summary of the #pornocalypse phenomenon as I’ve seen, and it confirms my long-argued theory that it’s the involvement of the investor class that drives the exclusion of sexuality from any modern business or product:

This is a very important article...

It exposes the blatant prejudice PayPal, Chase Bank & Square have toward the industry of sex. These are LEGAL and LICENSED businesses they are stopping from using their services online.

THIS is one of the reasons big corporations need to be subdued. Human beings tend to abuse power when it proves too much to handle.

Of course, no one at these companies would ever watch porn, go to a massage parlor or strip joint would they?

Building content-neutral platforms is important for diversity and public health

I'm personally firmly of the belief that platform providers should not attempt to police creative expression, including sexuality-based expression, that is legal and non-hateful. Proactively blocking access to content is not a sensible way to build services that are useful to the world at large. Providers should respect users' preferences if they ask not to see certain types of content. But providers should default to showing users information that they've specifically requested instead of behaving in a paternalistic manner.

Permitting freedom of expression about sexuality and access to age-appropriate information on sexuality is beneficial to users. Users are best served with information that is appropriate to their needs. This includes the freedom to express non-mainstream sexuality, express it in non-mainstream ways, and access information published by others about non-mainstream sexuality. Platforms should not attempt to censor legally permissible expression related to legal, consensual activity.

TheBodyHouse.biz's insight:

Why does the bank care how you make your money as long as it's legal. If this person is 18 or older they have every right to make their own videos and sell them on the internet.

If you can make a living from that I say... More power to you!

Bank executives need to get over themselves and stop judging how people make their money and stick to the business of protecting it.

Sorry Internet, Not All Sex Is Smut

Sorry Internet, Not All Sex Is Smut | Sex Work | Scoop.it

Starting a business is a big deal. Not only it is pretty challenging economically, personally and socially, but also demands an emotional and psychological investment...

Being a female in the Adult Industry has been quite a ride. From the judgemental eyes of prudes, to the chauvinistic disbeliefs of Industry peers. I expected all of this when I first started. What I did not expect was the ingratitude of the technological era, whose tools made me feel safe to take on this venture in the first place. Social Media such as Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, Vimeo, Tumblr and WordPress along with Payment Tools that makes everyone’s business easier like Paypal, are suppose to help us reach more people, send out our message, and grow… But then, why it doesn’t it do that for me?

Senate Attorney General Confirmation Deal Jeopardizes Free Speech Online | Center for Democracy & Technology

Senate Attorney General Confirmation Deal Jeopardizes Free Speech Online | Center for Democracy & Technology | Sex Work | Scoop.it

Today, the Senate is set to vote on the Justice for Victims of Trafficking Act (JVTA), the bill that last month turned into a partisan battleground over federal funding for abortion and a roadblock to the confirmation of Loretta Lynch as Attorney General. There’s been extensive media coverage of the Congressional logjam, and yesterday there was news that an agreement has been reached to move both issues forward.

Unfortunately, part of the deal to move the bill forward appears to include a version of the SAVE Act which will amend existing federal anti-trafficking law in vague ways that will be used to prosecute online content hosts for third-party content.  This bill, Amendment 273 to the JVTA, closely parallels a version of the SAVE Act that passed the House in January. Almost a year ago, we wrote about the threat that

Suppressed again? Feminism in London conference excludes sex workers from panel on sex work

Suppressed again? Feminism in London conference excludes sex workers from panel on sex work | Sex Work | Scoop.it

A guest post from SWOU (Sex Worker Open University) about the failure of the upcoming 'Feminism in London' conference to include any sex workers on its sex work panel.

Upcoming autumn event Feminism in London is planning to hold a panel discussion about sex work -- without having any current sex workers on the panel. Ironically, this sex worker-free sex work panel was originally called "Suppressed Voices"..

Gracie Passette's insight:

Maybe it's not censorship; but it sure ain't discussion or problem solving now is it.
