An ad for a web hosting company featuring Pamela Anderson has been banned by the U.K.’s Advertising Standards Authority after is was deemed “sexist and degrading to women.”

The Dreamscape Networks ad features Anderson and another woman, clad in bikinis, frolicking in cream. The interlude is set up as the fantasy of a male employee during a meeting.  

Dreamscape Networks argued that the ad was not degrading, as it portrayed the female lead as the head of the business and the fantasy sequence was limited to the male employee’s imagination.

I'm a sex writer.  Well, I'm more than simply a sex writer, but I'm very open about the fact that I  write about sex-related topics in my blog and in other media. I have no problem with being known as a "Sex Writer" mainly because I feel that women have the right to speak openly about sex from a sex-positive point of view, rather than a shaming one. I encourage women to speak freely about their sexuality, sexual identity, and yes, sexual behavior. I recognize, however, that doing so publicly can be rather daunting.

According to Gallap & Robinson, marketing studies have shown that erotic ads are more likely to be noticed than non-sexual ones.

Imagine looking at an ad with a sexy, half naked girl sitting on a sink straddling a handsome man who has his shirt off. The average person would think this ad was selling something sex-related, but surprisingly it is an ad for Candies perfume. Currently, more and more ads are made to look sexual because the new motto is “sex sells.” Typically, cologne, perfume, and alcohol ads seem to have the most sexual content in them. They use sexual content to tell their products. This seems odd because these products really have nothing to do with sex.

Sex sells. Pretty much anything. Specifically, it sells alcohol.

Beer in particular is often sold with the images of scantily clad women.

It is the choice of so many alcohol advertisers to represent their product with young, attractive women because it appeals to the specific audience that buys their product – men. Often, they go a little farther, and portray their product as the means to a good time.
