Noah Butler's curator insight, November 12, 2014 1:28 AM

This article is about the HIV/Aids and provides us with a 30 year timeline showing us the milestones that scientists and doctors have discovered about the disease. The article relates to what we have been talking about in class because last term half of our booklet was about Aids and the symptoms, how it can affect the body, transmission, etc. In my opinion I believe that this is a great article because it talks about and explains the milestones and the good things that people have done towards preventing Aids. It's good to see a positive article relating to Aids for a change rather than the death rates of people dying from it in Africa.

Sex, politics and the stigma over the HPV vaccine

Sex, politics and the stigma over the HPV vaccine | Sex History | Scoop.it

Comments by Michael Douglas about oral sex and HPV shines a light on a topic that has long been shamed by conservative politicians.

...Dr. Hilda Hucherson, clinical professor of obstetrics and gynecology and associate dean at Columbia University’s College of Physicians and Surgeons, suggested that a specific time period in social history seemed to have prompted the jump in HPV cases.

Corsets Are Too Sexy?

Corsets Are Too Sexy? | Sex History | Scoop.it

If the medial claims about corsets weren’t true, if they were as exaggerated as the corseted female form, why? Sex, of course. (Part two of my research into the complicated history of corsets.)

What If Everything You Knew About The Corset Was Wrong? | Sex History | Scoop.it

Part one of my research into the complicated history of corsets. This article focuses on the so-called medical evidence of health problems & death in Victorian times from wearing corsets. (I still get a lot of flack from this series, which is in three parts.)

Midwives, Infanticide, and the Law | Sex History | Scoop.it

"In addition to being the most important female medical practitioners, midwives were central to the maintenance of law and order, as they investigated cases, questioned suspects, and examined condemned women to ensure that no pregnant women were executed."

Oh that's so funny - I NEVER get comments on this site! Thanks for paying attention.
Christina Lander's comment, March 3, 2013 9:00 PM
this one is a little confusing however it talks about how midwives are not strictly midwives they do other things as well. such as how they can become in any case involving women.

That's the beauty of blogs - they can find topics that are a little out of the box.

If You’re Forced To Have A Baby, Don’t Throw It Out With The Bathwater (Or, Of Margaret Sanger & Eugenics)

If You’re Forced To Have A Baby, Don’t Throw It Out With The Bathwater (Or, Of Margaret Sanger & Eugenics) | Sex History | Scoop.it

Margaret Sanger, founder of Planned Parenthood and advocate for planned parenting & birth control before women even had the right to vote, is often misquoted or quoted out of context. And one thing is generally missing from any conversation about Sanger and her times: The subject of eugenics itself.

This paper, published between 1900 and 1930, was part of Sanger’s collection, but it's far more complicated than it seems!
