Robin Good's curator insight, April 19, 2013 10:45 AM

Tint is a web servive which allows you to create very easily, and without any technical knowledge a web presence by aggregating, curating and displaying your favorite feeds, social media channels into an elegant visual layout.

Tint-created websites can be easily embedded into any existing web site or integrated into any CMS such as WordPress or Tumblr very easily.

Techcrunch reports: "In other words, Tint’s platform is designed to help brands create social hubs on top of their digital properties and, in turn, create a deeper level of engagement with their audiences...

...Businesses can link their Twitter, YouTube, Pinterest, Instagram, Facebook and RSS feeds to their Tint accounts, whereupon the service auto-populates the page from those feeds, serving the social content in a river that is Pinterest-like in design."

Users can personalize their "tint" web pages by changing fonts, background colors, the headline, URL and image of each piece of content.

"Tint also allows you to choose the dimensions you want the embedded stream to be and the number of cascading columns you want to appear, automatically serving up the embed code."

All plans include one "tint" (one web page), the connection of 2 social accounts, mobile support and analytics.

Depending on the paid service plan you select, you can also have additional social accounts added, a white-label implementation, moderation/curation features, additional themes, Facebook Tab, support for events, hashtag moderation, full custom CSS support and more.

Free basic version available to everyone.

My comment: If you wanted an alternative to RebelMouse here it is. Just like its competitor it lets you display social media feeds from specific hashtags, social media channels and Pinterest boards, adding as a unique extra support also for YouTube channels.

With the increasing emphasis on math and science, this proves that there is a direct correlation between the arts and learning. Unlike science, music helps the brain develop in many different areas.

Evaluating authentic mobile apps for learning

Evaluating authentic mobile apps for learning | Bibliotecas Escolares & boas companhias... | Scoop.it
I particularly encouraged them to think about 'authentic' apps rather than those made for learning. This is because in many ways I feel that most made for learning apps have made very little pedagogical progress beyond their roots in CALL from the last century.

I also believe that encouraging students to get 'hands on' with authentic apps has a much more important role in helping them to develop digital literacies which they can use outside of the classroom.

Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality are new technologies which engage students in a completely new way which is more fun and engaging for them, and it increases retention. This article show the 10 companies that are working on education in virtual reality and augmented reality. The first company is Immersive VR Education which created a Lecture VR is a VR app which simulates a lecture hall in virtual reality, while adding special effects that are accompanied by images, videos, and immersive experiences which enhance the lesson. The second company is Unimersiv which is a VR learning platform which releases educational content on a monthly basis. The next company is Alchemy VR which is creating immersive educational experiences on an impressive scale. These are the others companies Google, thinglink, gamar, Schell Games,EON Reality,Nearpod and WoofbertVR which are working on it. Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality are the next big step forward in education, and these technologies are good for educators and students alike. These technologies give us a window into the future of education, and it probably won’t be long until it is standard for classrooms to come equipped with some form of VR or AR technology.

Some useful ideas.

Ely Córdoba's curator insight, September 28, 10:33 AM
Over the years, smartphones takes an important part in the people, and more in younger people. In the classroom is very common the use of them, students use them to chatting, to read, to listen to music, and to use the camera in order to make photos or videos, and the last one has been very popular. However, stadistics show that the use of camera changes during the years; for example, today is less used in contrast with 2010, but this is not the point, the real point in this article is the motivation to implement this kind of tool in the different classes. All students have a smartphone, and as a teacher we can implement the use of the camera to change the teaching and give them dynamic activities. Some activities involve make videos, or stories with pictures, portfolios, collages, tutorial, presentations or different documents. These activities are atractive to students in order to change the way to learn and the applied activities in the process.
