UX and Agile: A happy marriage | UX Magazine

Hannes's curator insight, April 16, 3:28 PM

In modern software development environments many projects apply an agile approach in order to increase customer satisfaction. Usually this is done by rapid iterations, cross functional teamwork and user involvement. At the same time a modern business development environment requires UX practitioners to align users' needs with project goals and set the stage for satisfying experiences. Obviously, designers and developers must learn how to merge agile and UX methodology into a long lasting loving marriage. Like this article describes it: "something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue, and a silver thruppence in her shoe".

Strategic User Experience (ConfabUK 2013)

If you get a seat at the strategy table, bring a prototype

Via Kazumichi Sakata (Mario)
Kazumichi Sakata (Mario)'s comment, April 6, 3:10 AM
I agree with Terry, bringing in prototype may bring some misleading thoughts when too early. Depends what you call as Prototype. In my case, I rather bring storyboards to have shared understanding of user's context of use.
Michael Allenberg's comment, April 7, 10:05 AM
Kazumichi, an interactive prototype can take many forms! We practice turning storyboards into click-through prototypes, when applicable, to provide the client a more contextual experience!
Michael Allenberg's comment, April 7, 10:08 AM
And by this, I mean actually making the storyboards themselves digital and stitching them together with appropriate interactive components, contextual to each frame. This is a unique way to stell the story BEFORE beginning the UI prototype!

Design Thinking for Retail Banking

Banks that survived the dramatic downturn now have to answer questions about how they’ll differentiate themselves to gain a competitive advantage. Banks that survived the crash were adept at optimisation, but although optimisation may have helped banks avoid insolvency, it’s not a differentiator.

How can banks shift from an optimisation-centric approach to one that balances optimisation and innovation?  From experience we’ve found the Design Thinking model is an ideal way to promote innovation.

Deutsche Bank for example has already built its own design thinking division to solve complex business problems.

Although Design Thinking offers a good way to encourage banks to be more creative and innovative, there’s a more fundamental question that we need to consider. Do banks have the ability and willingness to innovate and evolve?
