A Must Have Chart Featuring Critical Thinking Skills

A Must Have Chart Featuring Critical Thinking Skills | Service Design | Scoop.it

Critical thinking is an essential skill in our life.It is through thinking critically that we get to sideline our biases(cultural, racial,ethnic...etc) and see the clear picture.Critical thinking is a sort of meta-thinking, that is thinking about thinking. It is a key to self-reliance : memorize the solution to a particular problem and you may master the solution to that particular problem, but improve your critical thinking and you ll get yourself the tools to create your own effective solutions to a multitude of unfamiliar problems.

Agile design - a new buzzy phrase in software development - could it have value in the less fast paced world of curriculum theory and the paradoxically opposite 'real' world of 'lived and living' curriculum....worth a read chaps and ladies.

PowerStory's curator insight, May 19, 2:23 PM

Design Thinking for Retail Banking

Banks that survived the dramatic downturn now have to answer questions about how they’ll differentiate themselves to gain a competitive advantage. Banks that survived the crash were adept at optimisation, but although optimisation may have helped banks avoid insolvency, it’s not a differentiator.

How can banks shift from an optimisation-centric approach to one that balances optimisation and innovation?  From experience we’ve found the Design Thinking model is an ideal way to promote innovation.

Deutsche Bank for example has already built its own design thinking division to solve complex business problems.

Although Design Thinking offers a good way to encourage banks to be more creative and innovative, there’s a more fundamental question that we need to consider. Do banks have the ability and willingness to innovate and evolve?

Anatomy of an Experience Map: How Experience Maps Can Be Used in Service Design

Anatomy of an Experience Map: How Experience Maps Can Be Used in Service Design | Service Design | Scoop.it

Experience maps aren't limited to multi- or cross-channel experiences. They are about orchestrating multiple touchpoints that occur over time. And there's no right way to do an experience map.

Hannes's curator insight, June 11, 1:55 PM

In a multi decvice eco system, online service customers will experience several touchpoints occuring over time. People are accessing information in different contexts with different technologies, all the way from reviewing user opinions to performing purchases to using the complete solution. How can we be prepared for the complex situation of use that exists today, and how can support holistic design strategies? I think customer journey mapping is a useful method because it can help us to consider moments that matter for users in every touchpoint, instead of thinking about isolated tasks.

Terry Patterson's curator insight, June 1, 7:54 PM

Absolutely love this emergent idea for the future of technology applications! Ever since we start thinking solely about designing solutions that work in this or that device, we're limiting ourselves. In the same way, when we ignore the context and focus on merely "tasks", we also limit ourselves. Technology is all around us now and in the future it will be so embedded in our lives that we must take into consideration all kinds of user situations outside of end-goal tasks. Very exciting future for tech, in my opinion. And for designers, very interesting and creatively stimulating time!
Happy designing!

UX and Agile: A happy marriage | UX Magazine

Hannes's curator insight, April 16, 3:28 PM

In modern software development environments many projects apply an agile approach in order to increase customer satisfaction. Usually this is done by rapid iterations, cross functional teamwork and user involvement. At the same time a modern business development environment requires UX practitioners to align users' needs with project goals and set the stage for satisfying experiences. Obviously, designers and developers must learn how to merge agile and UX methodology into a long lasting loving marriage. Like this article describes it: "something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue, and a silver thruppence in her shoe".

Strategic User Experience (ConfabUK 2013)

If you get a seat at the strategy table, bring a prototype

Via Kazumichi Sakata (Mario)
Kazumichi Sakata (Mario)'s comment, April 6, 3:10 AM
I agree with Terry, bringing in prototype may bring some misleading thoughts when too early. Depends what you call as Prototype. In my case, I rather bring storyboards to have shared understanding of user's context of use.
Michael Allenberg's comment, April 7, 10:05 AM
Kazumichi, an interactive prototype can take many forms! We practice turning storyboards into click-through prototypes, when applicable, to provide the client a more contextual experience!
Michael Allenberg's comment, April 7, 10:08 AM
And by this, I mean actually making the storyboards themselves digital and stitching them together with appropriate interactive components, contextual to each frame. This is a unique way to stell the story BEFORE beginning the UI prototype!
