"For my 40th birthday last year, my son gave me a book he’d written. It had a cover on which he’d written down the story’s title and had drawn a cover picture, and it was filled with several empty pages that he’d taped together. The idea was that we would write the story together."

Not everybody can write a good story well.  What everybody does have, is a story to tell.  If you're writing skills aren't up to snuff, look for other ways to tell your story.  Or, as this article demonstrates, you don't have to tell your story alone. Consider collaborative storytelling.

6 Tips for Building a Culture of Storytelling At Your Nonprofit | Amanda Hirsch

6 Tips for Building a Culture of Storytelling At Your Nonprofit | Amanda Hirsch | Serious Play | Scoop.it

"We’re all storytellers. Some of us are more intentional about the stories we tell, or more artful, but at the end of the day, we all tell stories through what we say and what we do. This is true not just for individuals but also for organizations. If everyone you hire is from one demographic… that’s part of your story. If you actively collaborate with partners, or prefer to work in isolation… again, that’s part of your story, as much as any social media promotion or the About page of your website."

The Heart of Innovation: The 10 Personas of a Really Effective Brainstorm Facilitator

The Heart of Innovation: The 10 Personas of a Really Effective Brainstorm Facilitator | Serious Play | Scoop.it

There's a ton of reasons why most brainstorming sessions under-deliver, but the main reason -- the Mount Olympus of reasons (drum roll, please....) is the brainstorm facilitator.

The reason has less to do with their process, tools, and techniques than it does with their inability to adapt to what's happening, real-time, in the room.

Take a few minutes now to rate yourself, on a scale of 1-10, for how skillful you are at embodying the following personas of a high flying brainstorm facilitator.

Then tune into your biggest strength and ask yourself how you can amplify that quality. Then identify your biggest weakness and figure out how you can improve in that arena.
