Storytelling in Business | Impact!

Leaders, especially, can use the power of a good story to influence and motivate their teams. Stories can inspire everything from understanding to action. They capture our imaginations and make things real in a way that cold, hard facts can’t.

Types of stories for the workplace:

- who I am

- why I'm here

- teaching

- vision

- values in action

- I know what you're thinking

Why & how to use stories:

- stories help people cope with change

- stories get rid of the FUDs

- stories help make the complex simple

- stories persuade where facts can't

- stories produce mental images

Use storytelling to create more engaging business communications

1. Engage the audience

2. Keep your personal stories short

What is Groupthink? | ReadyToManage

What is Groupthink? | ReadyToManage | Serious Play | Scoop.it

Although it is a relatively new phenomenon in teams, and mostly attributed to the research work of Irving Janis at Yale University in the early 1970’s, Groupthink has become a significant concern to any people who operate a team situation. Groupthink occurs in organizations and teams which do not have high levels of healthy or constructive conflict. In other words, this is not destructive conflict but conflict in terms of ideas, how to achieve goals and when resources need to be changed or re-aligned. A team is especially vulnerable to groupthink when its members are similar in background, experience or attitudes and when the group is particularly protected or insulated from external opinions.

When creating a strategy for sharing your brand’s story, it’s just as important to think about the content of those images and how you share them with your followers as where you find them.

Skills Converged > Team Building Exercise: Challenging the Rules

Skills Converged > Team Building Exercise: Challenging the Rules | Serious Play | Scoop.it

Many team building exercises focus on getting participants to interact with each other in solving a problem or becoming better at communication. The problems are usually solvable by teamwork, creativity and persistence.

This exercise has a twist on traditional team building exercises. The task is simply too difficult, maybe even impossible. The aim of this exercise is to test the participants on a critical skill; the ability to realise their limitations, ask for help and think out of the box and possibly break traditional rules.

Our culture often demands that people must follow rules, sometimes even blindly. As a result an individual requires a strong self-esteem and confidence to challenge the status-quo or even lead others in a particular cause against the established norm. This exercise is ideal for improving this particular skill.

How to Tell a Great Story With Photographs | Huffington Post

How to Tell a Great Story With Photographs | Huffington Post | Serious Play | Scoop.it

Here we are again, another summer, another day with our kids and perhaps another great vacation. Of course we have our cameras, but this time lets not only think of getting that perfect vacation image, let's tell the story of our trip as a "Photographic Story"!

Telling stories with photographs is not a difficult task. The only thing different is that we're taking more images with a purpose to express what we see to someone else who could not be with us; and doing so, more for social sites like FaceBook , emails, calendars and picture books.  Photographic story telling is not about dumping ALL our photos into an album, but the choice images that follow a beginning, middle, and end, with connecting images in between.

A simple way to start a photographic story is to pre-visualize your story with a beginning, middle, and end. Think about the establishing image, the beginning. What does the scene look like? Perhaps an overall wide angle shot, or a close up detail of what the story is about. Next think about your "Point of View" or your creative idea on how to see the story and try different angles when taking the pictures, and end it with a shot that fulfills the mood of the storyline.
