How To Find Openly Licensed Educational Resources You Can Use [Infographic] | Serious Play | Scoop.it
Most of us turn to the internet when we are looking for resources to use for a presentation, report or article. The internet holds the key to so many robust resources.

Yet how many of these resources can you legally use for free? How many of them can you adapt?

That’s where Open Educational Resources (OER) can help. Here’s an infographic from the Center for Open Educational Resources and Language Learning (at the University of Texas at Austin) that can help.

Are You A Tech-Savvy Teacher, This Infographic Will Tell You | TechFaster

Are You A Tech-Savvy Teacher, This Infographic Will Tell You | TechFaster | Serious Play | Scoop.it
Through the course of our “summer school” here at Techfaster we’ve met plenty of tech savvy educators. From ISTE in early July to the NAESP show and Campus Tech that wrapped up this week, teachers, administrators and education enthusiasts were learning, sharing, and networking with each other. These are definitely the tech savvy teacher type, and that’s validated in the infographic below from Daily Genius. But just because you spent part of the summer at EdTech conferences doesn’t necessarily mean you are a tech savvy teacher. Of course the reverse is true as well, maybe you had family events and your own kids to tend to during the summer. Are you a tech savvy teacher? A strong indicator would be that you’re even reading this article here at techfaster.com. Are you keeping your students, parents, fellow teachers and administrators up to date with the goings on in your classroom with your own blog? That’s a good sign you’re a tech savvy teacher. Just think about what the communication you can have with a blog, would have been like in the days of the ditto machine? You would have to plan out your thoughts, outline them, create a ditto original, print them, pass them out to students, and just pray they didn’t end up on the floor of the school bus. Are you networking with other teachers you’ve never met on Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest or a knowledge sharing educational site? Are you regularly attending edtech chat or listening to podcasts? All of these are signs that you care about your own professional development, living in current times and caring about your students. YouTube, Twitter, SnapChat, Minecraft, Instagram, and Vine are all a part of your students lives. Facebook, Pinterest and email are all a part of your students’ parents’ lives. You’re almost too far behind if you’re not a “tech savvy” teacher. Check out the infographic below and see how you stack up.

This prediction is bang on target. There is no running away from social media. It is not an option anymore. The future  is where the technology is and it is going to integrate right into your life. There would hardly be a difference between social media and real life.

The face of education will change in this new world. It will diminish the boundaries and people from all parts of the world will come together and make learning fun .

Hans. This link is interesting because i read another article recently that mentioned that inaccurate info presented in infographic style is very rarely questioned. The 'more beautiful' the infographic the more it is deemed valid.

Hans Heesterbeek's comment, August 28, 2013 1:37 AM
wow that's dangerous when people take the info for granted, so there is a difference in accepting the facts and figures when it is written and as a graphic.
Juliana Loh's comment, August 30, 2013 2:51 AM
Yes. There is a difference. I wish i had that link. I can't find it now but on the other hand, info presented by advertising companies often are the target of skepticism. http://mashable.com/2013/07/03/infographic-advertising-do-you-buy-it/ tho yes.. according to a study done on UX presentation, generally people are far more liable to accept info presented in a graphic form.

Beyond the Book: Infographics of Students' Reading History

Beyond the Book: Infographics of Students' Reading History | Serious Play | Scoop.it

I'm an evangelist.

A book evangelist, that is. I want my students to read widely and read often, to pick up a book instead of browsing Tumblr every time they are bored. But I have no desire to assess my students for each book they read during the year. I do want my students to think about some of the books that have affected them and influenced them, though. And I want them to plan ahead and think about the books they want to read in the future. In other words, I want them to be readers.

Recently, I've also been fascinated by the way the human mind interprets visual symbols. From doodling to reading and writing text, the brain is wired with a proclivity for visual sensory ability. In order to help students harness this power, we have been trying our hand at visual notes and sketchnoting in class. Then I decided to try some lessons with infographics.

When I found this lesson about reading histories, I was inspired. What if I could combine my students' fresh knowledge of visual notetaking and infographics with an analysis of their reading lives? What would they learn about themselves as readers? What would they learn about each other?
