4 Lessons from my First Week of Learning How to Draw

4 Lessons from my First Week of Learning How to Draw | Serious Play | Scoop.it

About a week ago I decided to reinvent my mission at the Skool of Life. I wanted to see if I could learn a new skill every 30 days. So I decided that I would teach myself how to draw. Needless to say my first few sketches were nothing to write home about. But I’ve made some progress.

As I expected, teaching myself how to draw has come with some valuable insights...

"I can't draw"  is one of the main reasons people struggle to get started with visual coaching. Here's an account of someone deciding to learn a new skill (drawing) and what they experienced.

Our Philosophy

We believe that coming together to tinker with ideas, draw, work on problems and create stories with others is a really fun and vital component of learning. When we get together with others in an open ended, creative environment, we explore new ideas, new ways of thinking and problem-solving, naturally.

That’s why we created Scoot & Doodle: online, collaborative studios where friends and classmates easily get creative together, face-to-face and in real-time.

Ariana Amorim's insight:

Can't wait to try it!

With Scoot & Doodle’s you can get together for creative jam sessions, face-to-face, anytime, anywhere and you can create with up to 9 of your friends at the same time.

The thought provoking challenges are also great fun.

What a wonderful way to help students with homework, allow students to collaboratively create something, or conduct an online short class with small groups! No writing necessary so no problem with Hebrew typing, but you can draw, write and discuss.

"Ole Qvist-Sørensen, an amazing graphic facilitator (he’s facilitated at all three of our vizThink conferences) and owner of Danish visual thinking company ‘Bigger Picture‘, recently put up an excellent post on his company’s blog outlining their tips for drawing just about anything.
Their context is graphical facilitation but these techniques will work for any context and should help you find that inner visual thinker. These videos are well worth the less than 30 minutes it’ll take to go through them."

Schoolchildren and adults doodle for the same reasons: out of boredom, to focus, to release pent-up energy. Doodling is a playful way for artists to tap their imaginations. For novices, classes are available online via crafters' blogs and at some small arts and crafts shops.

Zentangle

Zentangle | Serious Play | Scoop.it

"What is a Zentangle? In a word, a doodle. A structured, contained doodle. The term 'Zentangle' was coined by Rick Roberts and Maria Thomas when, one day, Maria described her experience, as she created her art, as "feeling timeless, free and engendering a sense of deep well-being". Rick recognised that she was in a meditative state and so Zentangles were born."

On this page, you will learn how to draw a Zentangle from scratch, what materials are required for Zentangles and also how to use the techniques imaginatively in your own work. Enjoy!
