Looks like a great tool - I hope there is an Android version of it.

StudentSupport@EdinburghCollege's curator insight, June 18, 2013 10:35 AM

Studying is not the intended function of this application, however, by uploading lecture slides as images, or taking pictures of the board during class, then uploading these images to Pixntell, would allow you to create your very own custom Flashcards. By recording your own audio notes to accompany the images, you could create short movies that could act as bitesize recap tools to support your revision, or prompts for studying, or a visual plan for your coursework.

30hands app for storytelling and presentation

Different from other presentation apps, 30hands Mobile focuses on the power of storytelling. Like pages in a book, photos or images are dragged around the desktop into the order of the story. Next, the teacher or student records audio over each image. Finally, the story or presentation can be published to the device’s photo area or uploaded to a 30hands collaborative learning site.

BackStory series... The Story Behind the Picture

Here's how it works:

Someone submits a photo, and we ask our readers to write and submit their 250-300 word BackStory- what they THINK the story behind the photo is... everything you can't see in the picture.

Small Fists by Ryan Trauman is the first post in our BackStory series... The Story Behind the Picture.

This first BackStory is made up by someone (Trauman) who has no clue about the photo.

But as a nod to the Academy Awards this month, I've created a playlist with resources to get you started on thinking about media and visual literacy and how to teach the language of film."

Ideas for Using iPads for Digital Storytelling

Ideas for Using iPads for Digital Storytelling | Serious Play | Scoop.it
Schools have begun to recognize the importance of multimedia use in education.

If you own an iPad, you have access to a host of apps and tools for creating digital stories. Use them for creative expression, communicating information, entertaining, expressing comprehension, tutoring purposes, and much more. Here are just
a few ideas:

•  Create a narrated slide-show story to demonstrate the understanding of new vocabulary.
•  Use a video or screencast (a recording of interactions on a computer or iPad display) to explain a complex scientific concept.
•  Create an audio or video interview of your grandparents for a family history project.
•  Create a historical narrative of a pivotal event using images and audio.
•  Create a first-person audio journal of a person who lived during a significant event in history.
•  Explain a mathematical concept by creating a screencast tutorial.
•  Use audio podcasting to practice reading and speaking in a foreign language.
•  Demonstrate a portfolio of work with personal narrative describing each piece, its objectives, and development.
•  Narrate a character story or a personal journal with a musical soundtrack.

Ariana Amorim's insight:

From the article:

"Digital storytelling makes for engaging lessons that allow students to create and publish content rather than just passively consuming it. It empowers every student with the opportunity to develop his voice and personalize it through the use of media.

(...) You have a wide variety of options for applying digital storytelling to your curriculum."

Create Your Own Narrated iBooks With Book Creator

Create Your Own Narrated iBooks With Book Creator | Serious Play | Scoop.it

Book Creator allows anyone to create their own books using images, text, videos, and audio recordings.

Book Creator is not a free app ($4.99 as an individual and less with volume purchasing) but I think that it is well worth the money that I spent on it.

The latest updates to Book Creator allows you to export your books to ePub 3.0 format. The exported file can be opened an read in the Chrome web browser using the free Readium browser extension. This is a great option as it allows a parent who doesn’t have an iPad at home to view his or her child’s work at home.

Another feature added to Book Creator 2.5 is the option to take pictures and videos from within the app. Version 2.5 introduced new page format options including a full screen format.

1. We live in a conceptual age where people look for meaning and purpose in absolutely everything they buy.

2. Every story follows the same basic dramatic structure.

3. Always give your audience the chance to participate in your story and be the hero.

4. Different characters can be introduced to tell new stories.
